I know that farming locations are a big secret to some and they don't want everyone knowing where they get their best stuff at. But for me, I'll tell anyone who wants to know. They just have to beat me to it! (granted, I check the guild roster before farming a zone, I'm a tad bit merciless when I farm anything.......)
I've found myself a new haven for some herbs as of late. Like any other overly rich site in TBC, you'll have to have a flying mount.
I had started farming Skettis previously for motes of water because the Elemental Plane is just too damn crowded. It was a sweet little hidden spot in South/East Terrokar. I was getting a few Mana Thistle, Felweed and Dreaming Glory while I worked the water elementals over.
Then came the recent patch, and a new set of quests and faction that popped up. The Skyguard. There are some reapeatable quests that you can do there for 11G a pop too.
But on to my herbing story........
I saw these large Forest Ragers wandering the zone. They are Elites that range from level 71-72. I used to farm Elite Giants pre-TBC and figured what the heck, I'll try to kite him or know better next time. So, IT'S ON! The kiting works, albeit a little harder than I was used to in Winterspring.
I finish the kill and loot it. Crappy grey Razor Thorn or Hypnotic Flower. BING, the herb activation shows up on my pointer. Sort of expected that from killing bog monsters in Zangarmarsh.
The results were X4 Ancient Lichen, X4 Felweed and X4 mote of life! WOOT! Lets kill another!
Next one was X3 Mana Thistle, X4 Dreaming Glory, X3 mote of life. WOOT WOOT... Gold Mine!
These guys even drop the ever elusive Black Lotus from time to time, but don't expect to farm it off of them. I've killed about 50 now and only had it drop once. (But it dropped 2 of them!)
Ancient Lichen was almost an instance only herb. Not any longer!
Gathering decent ammounts of Mana Thistle was a freaking joke, and now I have to shuffle extra off to my storage alts or sell it! And man, that chit sells!
The Forest Ragers hit like a Mack Truck. They are Elites over our max level after all. Put on your game face or bring friends. This isn't easy farming. But they do like to wander to open areas, and when feared, they do NOT attract additional aggro from other PvE combatants in the area.
They are also succeptable to ninja looting. Be aware of whom is scoping you out during your kill. After you loot the crappy grey, the corpse is lootable by ANY herber. I've had people watch me kill one, and then swoop in and herb the corpse. There is a lag time between when the herb prompt comes up when you are the primary looter. The Ninjas get the prompt faster than you do. Just be careful.
There's my Weed Picker's tip for today.

Thundar’s weed picker tip for today.
So, you’ve finally gotten yourself the expansion and you’re in the Outlands. Alien weeds all around, but there are still a few you recognize. You even have a few new potions that seem very inviting.
So you need some Dreamfoil……….
Where the hell do you find Dreamfoil in this dreaded place? There are a few in Hellfire Peninsula, but even after tracking your herb locations you realize that the farming loop for these is very tedious and spread out. Basically, taking forever to get a decent supply. And you sure don’t want to go back to the old world just to farm materials.
Zangarmarsh is your buddy! Dreamfoil in Zangar? BS you say? Yup, there is Dreamfoil to be had in Zangar!
Head on up to the North/East corner to The Dead Mire. Run in circles around the area starting from the outer parts of the brown colored dead stuff and just work in smaller circles till you cleaned out the weeds you need. Go all the way down to the icky little puddles at the bottom. Then start the pattern over again.
If you are bored and waiting for respawns here, there is Basilisk on the outer edge on the twisting nether side of the area. You can farm them for Chunk o basilisk that makes good spell damage food. Even if you can’t cook yourself, the meat still sells well on the AH. I generally do not have to stop and kill, I just keep looping.
There are also plenty of bog monsters to kill that can be herbed after they are looted. Remember, be polite and only herb them if the person killing them is not. But I usually find Horde here killing and leaving them. So I can get quite a bit of extra motes of life, and other herbs and just vendor trash that I can still sell for a little coin. The monsters there also earn you Sporeggar rep if you are grinding faction with them, so you could just go on a killing spree depending on what you are doing that day.
I likes killin sprees!

Now to just get to level 70 and pick up my flying mount... and pick up herbalism and level it... and pick up a profession that benefits from it...
Great guide though. Very detailed and I think some people will definitely benefit from this.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this lately. Making documents for work and my guild gets me a bit scatter brained and I forget some of the fun things I'm working on......
Weed pickers hot spots tip for today
Well, you’ve started getting your Major Protection Potions acquired and you see that one vital ingredient……. Mana Thistle .
Well the first, and most important tip when it comes to Mana Thistle is the Flying mount. There are no good farming locations for this that can be reached with the standard ground based mounts. Also, get your herbing up to 375. There will be those who say “There are places to get Mana Thistle without a flying mount!” And yes, they are correct. Here’s one of those comments:
There is one spot where you do NOT NEED a flying mount, and that is in Netherstorm at vendor Dealer Sadaqat. Respawn is fast , 1 hour or so.
Now if you want to sit by the vendor and wait for a respawn you’re nutz. But it wouldn’t hurt to visit him once in a while. But with the tons of herbers on the servers, don’t count on this as a supply method. 99% of the best places will require wings! This won’t fill your bags with enough to make you happy with the progress either. Besides, I’m more particular to the FREE variety of herb.
Shadowmoon Valley: Big floating island in the south-east corner of the map. Netherwing Ledge. This place has gotten pretty volatile with the increase in the number of Elite Spawns and Netherwing rep grinding people. Probably not the first place you want to try and farm this herb. But once you get your epic flying skill purchased and open up the Netherwing daily quest chains, a large percentage of the mobs become friendly, you can more easily move around there, and expect to snag a Thistle or two if you are lucky.
Terokkar forest: I’ve already covered the Elite Forest Ragers in Skettis for the big whammy of killing and herbing them for Mana Thistle, but it grows on the ground here too. Some of the spawn spots are easy to get to and they have increased the spawn rate some up here. But many of the spawn spots are very close to mobs that aggro. Still, that’s to be expected for ALL of the spawn points for this herb. They do make it intentionally hard for you to get it.
Barrier Hills directly behind the Aldor Rise in Shattrath: Silly Aldor herbers! I have no idea how I ever get these because I’m Scryer, but there are several spawn points in the Ogre camp directly above and behind the Aldor Rise.
Netherstorm: There is a little floating Island to the North/West of the map called Socrethar’s Seat. It’s populated with Demons and Socrethar himself. There are a couple of spawn points right out in the open, and a couple right up in there by the camp. As usual, they want to make it difficult. Actually, on a side note, Mana Thistle and Aldor go great together because there are spawn points at almost every demon camp in the zone areas that require a flying mount to get to. And you almost always have to kill a Demon or two to get to herbin in peace! Never hurts to snag an Aldor mark during your farming endeavors!
Blade's Edge Mountains: To the west and north on this map are stretches of “Fly to only” locations that you will explore. If you are pickin weeds for your Alchemy it will be a place you have to eventually visit anyhow. There is a Holy Protection potion recipe up here(and you’ll have to get it for yourself…. It’s BOP!). In both of these places there are Demon camps at the edges. And you guessed it, the Thistle spawns here too. Again, the Aldor advantage to herbin here stands out for the marks you will get. But you can always trade Aldor Marks for Scryer Signets. Or sell them on the AH.
In the beginning I mentioned that you should have your herbing skills up to 375. After you go on this farming loop once you’ll see that they put this weed in the worst possible places with patrols and just ugly mobs very near by. You want to harvest the herb on the first try and get out of there as fast as possible. Not to mention that this is going to stay orange level herbing even after you hit 375. So even maxed out you may fail occasionally.
I did finally touch on a secondary subject when it comes to herbing. What else do you get when you farm. As most hard core farmers know, it’s not just about the specific herb you might need to stock up on, but rather the mobs that you have to kill to get to them, and the available resources and items that they drop. This may lead into my next weed pickers tip……….. The Farming Loop.

Zone Specific Herbs and Zone Abundant Herbs - Outland
There are plenty of herbs I haven’t discussed because they are mostly in abundance in all of the zones. But there are a few that are specifically found in certain zones. This does not refer to instance runs where many kinds of herbs can be found like Underbog and Botanica. But the open zone areas for farming.
Zone Specific Herbs:
Netherbloom: This herb is exclusively in the Netherstorm area. More predominant in the outer edges of the floating islands, and likes open flat areas on the map. Some can be found in open areas near the Mana Forge camps as well.
Nightmare Vine: This herb is exclusive to Shadowmoon Valley. I’ve found it in open flat areas and near carts and similar graphics placed in flat areas. Of all of the zone specific herbs out there, this is the hardest to gather in large quantities. There are usually a couple nodes in and around the Black Temple and in the Dragonmaw Fortress. In short, it likes to grow in populated, enemy camps. You can find some in the open areas in Shadowmoon, and it has the least predictable growing locations, but most of you are using a mod that tracks previously herbed nodes, so it will be your best source of reference for farming it.
Terocone: For the easiest farming, I would hit Terrokar Forest, but it’s not exclusive to just that zone. It can also be found in the Skettis camps in Shadowmoon Valley. But getting to it in Shadowmoon is a lot more work unless you are looking for a lucky random drop off of a humanoid while you farm. It likes to grow at the base of the trees with similar looking fruit. The trees in Shadowmoon are all dead forest looking though.
Ragveil: This herb is found in Zangarmarsh. It likes the more open flat areas of the multitudes of Islands in this zone. I’d like to talk about Zangar a little more on this post specifically. Any hard core herber tends to get frustrated with Zangar because of the over abuncance of Glowcaps clogging up the screen. This is how I approach Zangar: Split the zone in half, and only actively farm the Eastern half. The Glowcaps are all concentrated on the western half of the zone. (If you look back at my post about Dreamfoil and looping the Dead Mire, you can easily harvest Ragveil in the same place.)
Zone Abundant Herbs:
Felweed: Probably the most used herb of them all. It’s the second ingredient to so many of our favorite Elixirs and Potions. As abundant as it may seem, because of how many potions use it, you will find yourself running out of it all the time. It prefers the open areas. Stop and pick it every time you see it on the minimap.
Dreaming Glory: This is a bag stuffing monster, but a vital ingredient to Mana Potions. So you should still pick it up every time you see it. It prefers the rolling hillsides and edges of the maps with the exception of Blade’s Edge Mountain area where I find it in flat places as well.
