I have been hearing alot about rolloff and ambient sounds lately. I know that rolloff is the loudness that you here a certain pickup or footstep in a set radius. Also I dont know what to set ambient volume too, because some people say you cant hear like rankin elevator or rough lift if your ambient is 0.000000.
I would also like to know if people consider changing these things cheating in any way?

First of all, changing these settings is not cheating, second of all, I recommend setting ambient volume to zero, it's worth sacrificing the lift sounds.

No it's not :\ If you don't play 1v1 then I guess it doesn't matter, but you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE the lift sounds on ironic. I've always left ambient sounds on for this reason.
It's not enough to succeed, others must fail.

I set my ambient volume to .25 that way you can still hear the lifts, and it lowers all of the stupid map noise.

What should I keep the ambient sounds at? I put it .1000 and can still hear the lift sounds perfectly.
I just set my rolloff to .200 because I heard that .2 was pretty good. And for the regular sound volume what should I put that at like .75 or sumthing? And yea dp is right lift sounds for ironic are really important.

I've played 1v1 without them forever, I guess I'm just used to it.

or dont change anything and keep your config lan-legal so if you ever play at a respectable lan event you dont get forced to play with settings you arent used to and then you can't hear anything and then you lose and are sad like this:
:(
Based on a true story.

Yea ra I prolly will never play in a lan, but I actually would like to have everything lan-legal. I will switch it all back as soon as I get my new sound card.

You can only make changes through the in-game settings, can't access your user or UT2004 inis.

Actually I saw people using console on more than one occasion to set binds at CPL, but technically it was illegal =x

i guess the only thing pro about lans is money. doesn't even sound like fun if they force you to play with a default setup. that's what an xbox is for.

Rgrt I seen peeps plugging jump drives into a tournament rig at a major LAN and I was like WTF? I know what RA is talking about. I used to use pipe-switched on all weapons and then I go to a LAN and I'm like " Oh-snap " and got pwned. (like normal)

"bending" the rules is often accepted at events but changing something that gives you a blatant advantage over your opponent (no sounds on rankin while they have them) is pretty obviously not legal.
