Windows Vista Users - READ!

I got this information from the Official Boards, here:

These are tweeks that you can use on Windows Vista to make City of Heroes operate quite a bit better. I followed the first few changes and my framerate went from being around 15-20 to being around 45-60 (I've seen it get to 64 in a mission).

I would recommend completing the first 4 tweeks, titled:

-Missing Pointers (if your pointers are having issues)
-CoH Not Using Dual CPUs (if you have a DualCore motherboard/cpu)
-Low Framerates (THIS IS THE BIG ONE)
-NVidia Performance Tweek (If you use an NVidia card)

I just got vista on my computer. after installing coh again and updating i logged on. to my horror the graphics were all screwed up. has this happened to anyone else? and dose any one know how to fix it?

The only way to fix a graphix problem with Vista is a ten foot hole and cement mixer.

Because of all the good news about the usability and stability of vista (note the sarcasm) I actually broke down and bought a Mac (not for gaming). I'm actually impressed. So far it has been a great little machine. Now only if it could handle CoH...

Thanks for this link, when I first tried out my new vista/dual cpu pooter... I couldn't even get CoH working and tech support just told me "sorry, we don't support or condone the use of Vista" I actually laughed a little at the comment. This should do wonders for my little hand tweaked system.

Quite frankly, if you're not getting Vista to work, you're not asking the right people for help. Vista and CoH work extremely well together if you follow what is mentioned in this thread. My Vista machines work with CoH extremely well.

Ok, i was just having a dumb moment when i posted. i just whent into graphic options and fixed the resolution and a few other things. the log in screen still looks kinda weird, its extra bright. yall do now if you have vista its best to use a restricted access account but have an administrator one with a password so you can authorize things. it keeps the maleware down to an almost mac level (or so iv heard).

I dont know what all the fuss is about VISTA.I bought a p.c. with dual proc. and had an NVidia graphics card profesionally installed and my pc works top notch with COH.

new p.c.-$595.00
new graphics card-$225.00
installation-$100.00
playing COH with graphics and sound turned all the way up.

There's nothing bad about Vista and CoH in my opinion. With the changes mentioned (adding in the command line stuff) it works BETTER, in my opinion, than XP.

If you have the patience and money for vista, great. Cause microsoft will keep sucking it out of you. But I think i'll stick with the more literal stuff. Linux, mac, and even XP ffs.

From what my dad tells me, Vista is around 200-300$ and yet your still not buying it, your leasing access to it. sigh... I just dont understand Microsoft.

Vista is a very very poor operating system in my humble opinion. For instance, Task Manager no longer seems to have highest priority. This means that when your whole bloody computer has locked up and you are busily bashing Ctrl+Shit+Esc (oh and whose bright idea was it to replace Ctrl+Alt+Del with the network terminal shortcut for non-network terminal computers.... Genius) nothing happens. Anyway rant over... Thanks a million, this thread helps immensely!

Anytime you "buy" a program, you're technically leasing access to it. Otherwise you would own all rights related to said program, giving you the right to copy it, modify it, resell it, etc etc etc. It's not a Microsoft thing, it's an Every-Company thing.

At any rate, that being said, I do NOT recommend that everyone go out and buy Microsoft Vista. However, for computers that shipped with Vista, this thread will help get your CoH running at (more than likely) the same or better performance than XP.

Glad someone bumped this, I had forgotten to keep tabs on these main board threads. A couple of tweaks I haven't done yet for my Vista run laptop. I'll see how it goes after the daily server maintenance.

Toy with your Gamma settings in the Advanced Graphics options inside of CoH. It's not a Vista thing.

i really think it is beacuse i was playin it before i got vista and everything was fine, then vista was installed white becomes super bright and black becomes extra dark! its really weird, and gamma seetings are weird as well.
If i change then the whole screen goes white and if i change it other way it goes black!

Look at the books or box that the computer came in, find out the Video Card manufacturer, go to their website and download the drivers.

If you're not sure, post the make and model of the computer here and I'll see what I can find for you.

Um...I was using Linux before you were born. You STILL don't own it just because you download and install it.

However, I wasn't refering to "Open Source" projects. I was refering to standard retail products. There will always be special cases, however, typically my post is dead on.

i think its a radeon x1650. i have a really good computer like its pretty new. but as soon as i got vista it happened, e.g. day looks like night. and the colours of the characters are really bright, and say ur where red sometimes it would flash black constantly ????. thanks for ur help though soo far.
