Hey all, this is so off topic, but i just saw hostel 2, pretty decent movie, i liked the first one so i thought id check this one out. I dont know about you guys, but i love horror movies. I feel that they cant make good horror movies anymore. Back when freddy and jason ruled the horror scene, that was when horror was on top, nowadays, its all about blood and gore. When it comes to true horror, i think of ghosts and demons taking over people, like the exorcist, or the shinning, to me that is true horror. I would love to see more movies like that....better yet, maybe i should make my own movie =)

I think it is a direct reflection of how smart the General Audience is now. Mostly teens go see slasher flicks, and lets face it teens these days are dumb as stumps and really don't want to think much (no offense to you young ones on here....). Instead they just want blood and gore. I don't waste my time on horror flicks anymore, 99% of them are snooze fests.

I fixed that for you.
I do agree with you on the statement that this trend is directly correlated with the current consumer base. However, I disagree with you on your belief that teens today are unintelligent. To be completely honest with you I've found that my generation plays host to some of the brightest minds of any generation. Unfortunately, almost every one of them is too lazy to put that intelligence to good use. Instead, they spend their time and money playing video games, messing with computers, and little cardboard rectangles. Some of them actually set out to accomplish little things here and there, but the really smart kids don't seem to care enough to do anything about this slowly decaying world. . . Or is it the other way around?
Meh. I don't really expect anyone to understand that last bit. Just a stray thought. Nothing that could change someone's life or anything.

Well, I hardly expect to be intellectually stimulated when I go to the multiplex, if I wanted that I'd go to the local arthouse cinema, but I do think that it wouldn't be hard to make horror movies a little more 'clever'. And as you have said, they aren't even scary. Though I don't have a particular problem with the 'torture porn' movies (as they have been dubbed) there are boring, but similarly ghosts/werewovles/vampires aren't scary. The only movies I really find scary are the kinda psychological horrors.

All Hollywood is about now is vulgar language, sex scenes and shock value, there are NO decent movies being made anymore. they know teens are going to see these movies so they do everything they can to corrupt them and warp their minds, just like MTV. MTV: "You're watching Laguna Beach, the kids of Laguna Beach use Trojan brand condoms and smoke marlboro brand cigarettes when humping in the back of their parents car" if you ask me Hollywood/L.A. can go to hell, that's my take on it.

I agree with all of you, Hollywood does suck! Its all about money, and what the current trend is. I just wish that someone would say f*** what everyone wants, and make a movie, regardless if it is not the so called "trend" atm. It would still make money, its just not what the "popular demand" would like. Just my 2 cents.

Id agree with most of your points Blondy, but NOT the shinning, that movie was not scary, i was wetting myself when i watched it! Its more of a comedy then a horror film in my eyes but hey
Horror is dying really, there needs to be a sh*t scary movie to bring back audiences! I guess were just not so frightful in this day and age

The best horror/suspense movies need not show the blood and gore that are common in slasher movies. In the older horror/suspense movies the director let you fill in the blank in what happened which can be more terrifying than seeing a body getting hacked up. That is why the old ones are so much better by far than this trash they try to pass off as horror when in fact all they are is slasher movies.
This is not a case of a smarter movie goer. It is the case of a poor and plot combined with pandering this B or C rated movie to the audience for ticket sales.
I think you are being very generous in calling the Nightmare on Elm Street and the Jason movies horror when all they are is B grade slasher movies.

Wow, that sucks, i just wrote a novel and it just disappeared, #$%$&@*$#!!!! Anyway, this generation is definitely lacking in the "horror" department. Movies like "The Shining", "Halloween", "Nightmare on Elm Street", were in fact horror movies that set "trends" and "standards" we know today. By saying none of these movies were not "horror" is totally wrong. You might not have thought they were scary or just not like the movies in general, but they most certainly set "horror" standards.
It even goes back to the 1900's. Those were some of the most original, scary horror films. Back then, they didn't have much to copy from, or a trend to follow, so why can't we do that today? Its because there is too much to copy from, and our minds are loosing originality. Ill leave it at that. Its just my opinion and anyone is welcome to criticize my post, but fact is fact, and opinion is opinion. Some things i stated are facts and not opinions.

There will be more horror, Blondy, if you feel so strongly for the lack of a proper horror movie why dont you try writing an amature scrip and entering it into an amature movie writing contest, they have them on at this website i found once from time to time, if i find the link ill post it for ye

If you ask me, Waita Uziga could make the ultimate horror movie. Now that would be worth all the kittens in the world.
Look into it and you'll see what I mean, except the kittens part- that didn't really mean anything..
The real question though, would be if live action cinema would really be able to achieve what he does through his mangas.
