Un-click the check box in chat to get rid of the general chat while in town helps from time to time when you don't want to be bothered, or simply log in at a non-peak hour ^^;

There was a news report saying they were going to be watching people in-game and take action, I got the impression it wasn't a code and that there are GM's monitoring districts.

I for one will be glad to see the traders receive some penalty for spamming in local chat, there is a trade channel now they are going to be forced to use it, just a shame that Anet have to take action because people have no respect.

Most of the spam is trade or guild related. Maybe if they made a guild recruitment chat and made selling stuff organized and simple rather than difficult and sloppy the spam would stop due to the source being taken away. There will always be morons though. So I guess it solves that problem...

except for the trade scam bots(which are very many) there also are extremely many idiots which prefere to use local chat instead of trade to advertise for the items they are buying/selling... anet finally took measures to stop this from happening!

just great :)

admins in districts where spams are most often seen will make sure these people do not do it agen by closing their account for a certain period of time, informing them why and how they can prevent it. bots will gets permanently banned eventually and also the stupid selfish people, which is just awesome^^

FINALLY the people are FORCED to respect another rule from anet, to use the trade channel for trade and let the chit-chat and recruiting be in local...

It stop one of my guildess from spamming he got flagged for it.Oh and ther is a place for putting in recruuists it called the search window witch people will now have to use since if they spamm tehy will get marked :P

well...
a couple things really... give us a trade house
if they really want to stop trade in channel then this is really the only way. I honestly do not care if people flood the channel or not.
I keep local off unless I am looking for something so I am sorry if this offends ... but whaaa sheesh crying over people selling when all you have to do is turn off local POOF it is all gone ... you guys are tunring Anet into your own personal babysitters "anet they are spamming" when you should be yelling at them "anet" to code a darn auction house
think of it .. drop your crap off your DONE ..sells for you
or better yet make a merchant that will give fair market value for a item.. it is done with the rare material.. why not items? in my 2 years time playing this .. that is the thing that makes me mad they do everything to make us use our cash ..gold item events... 1.5k key.. then have crap that nobody wants which leads to the "channel spam" WTS "INSERT CRAPPY NAME HERE" when all they have to do is do 1 of 2 things .. merchant that gives fair market value for items or a auction house.. but NOOOOO now have babysitters sitting in Districts watching over us making sure we are good little sheep... gah...

I'll second that. I don't get why ppl are crying over "spam" in all chat. I mean if there is spam there why the hell are u still reading it? A trade house would be nice instead of enforcing this stupid rule of trade chat only which imo would take more personnel to "man" LA, Kamadan, Kaening, Ascalon etc. Sheesh...

I agree.

Beacuse the evil monkey smurfs force them to look at the letters!!!EVIL MONKEY SMURFS! Seriously though more admins to give out "tallies" to the bad boys and girls is alot more annoying and man power consuming than actually making an auction house/merchants who buy expensive crap for more than 200g.

Nice to see them doing something like that; but on a note about trade, I wish they would do more for that trade Panel thing... Maybe remove trade chat, and in the Trade Panel shows districts from other continents EG: Europe sees what America's selling in that same town.

I try to use it every single tiem I try to sell something. It hasn't helped me ONE TIMe. Not ONCE! I followed proper p/cing guidelines and everything. I used local chat(yes local chat I sell crap in local chat soemtiems so sue me) and sold it in five minutes.

wrong... you mean the search window that I can put not even the whole disc before I run out of space ? that search window or are you talking about some secret search window that only you know of .. cause mine only lets me have 25 chars you try and put a items deion in that many chars cannot be done I can put in wts sword 45k .. as far as use it for auction house.. yeah.. how about this.. you hold your conversations in the trade box see if you do not get pissed

I remember when the search window came out, it was so popular! now look at it.. NOBODY USES IT! >_> Yes, an auction house would be helpful, but thats why you go to droks Eu/Am 1, and sell in trade section, Dont be crybabys! 'Look, no auction house! IM MAD!' Trade section is there for a reason! Andd.. I keep hearing something along the lines of theres going to be an auction house in GW2

Well, the warning is clear posted on the Log-On screen, yet when i went to Kamadan, La and Ascalon i was BOMBARDED by insane rapid rates of spam consuming my chat log.

I swear .. all the darn cry babies in this game half the people in the towns that are complaining about the spam are there for what 5 - 10 mins tops in the first place and if you are there to just go afk in the first place or maybe to sell some stuff to the merch then TURN off local but some people like me .. like to sit and watch for a good deal and sitting and watching a trade screen that only lets a person put in 25 chars is so screwed up I have been here in this game for 2 years and I swear this is the most juvenile update "warning" I have ever seen from them. this could also be fixed by making 1 - 5 trade DISTRICTS... towns even .. designated for nothing other than trade.... but no that would make sense.. we instead have to be babysat..
people... this is somewhat of a MMO .. people sell things that is part of the game... just like we have a TRADE to use you have the option to turn the chat off..

I can't say how many times this has happened to me because i simply lost count, but when people can't get responses after they have spammed the hell out of Local Chat, the go onto PM'ing random people. Happened to me alot in Ascalon and Kamadan. I usually will usually just PM back saying No thanks, please don't do that again. Sometimes (Although rare) the person will ignore what you said("no thanks") and just ask you again, sometimes more than once. Simply Ignored them. Other times you have the random auto trade people. They will come up to you and then put stuff in he trade window and sometimes ask over and over again a different price or something. I can;t remember but it has happened to me alot. It's just so annoying when people feel thay can force other people to try to buy their stuff. Sometimes i wish there was an Ignore trade. I also sometimes wish there was a way to just accept PM's from people only in your friends list, just for the fact that the Random PM thing can get out of hand. During wintersday 2006 each day the event was held, each time i would log on and play i had at least 15 people PMing me asking for help and it was the same thing over and over and over. I usually set myself "offline" and sometimes just ignored the people. I know thats mean, but you don't just PM random people and spam questions, you read quest deions. Man, i didn't realize how much i typed, this should have been a whole topic on it's own. Oh well.
