Heysa, like i have written in my previous topic, i'm playing on a lvl 15 Lore-master (A mix between a ranger/elementalist)
I were happy for my first skill, "a fire skill" (like flare in GW) and then a "Summon Raven thing" (like a pet) It was oka, I could deal pretty big damage to the monsters outside Celondim. But then I started getting lvls, it was fine, i learned more about the game. I got some woodworker abilities and more,, al was fine. But then (I was used to GW =Elementalist= pretty good damage dealer=) And then i got abit disapointed about my skills. Cause In a long period I could only deal damage by normal attacks, and a weak staff skill, and then my fire skill. It was only about lvl 12 I again got a damage skill ;(.
Then again,, I got some more lvls, And i got abit disapointed about my skills. Cause my skills activated a bit slow, I had only 2 ranged damage attacks (Yes, the staff attack. But since Lore-masters only can wield "Light armor" I was near death many times. And i couldn't heal myself, cause my "Beacon Of Hope" could only heal allies, so that became a problem aswell.
Then I had the "Hexes" or.. dunno wha it is called in LOTR universe, but they didn't help that much. My bro " A hunter" could easyli survive, deal damage, and just survive. But I couldn't (I could. but not as good a my bro)
What I'm trying to say is, when you pick a character, get some opinions about what to choose. Cause Lore-master isn't that good a "Nuker" "elementalist", and ofcourse, some of the other classed aren't what it looks like. So this is why you can do a difference to new players.
Tell what you think about "Your starter" character, then the new, can choose from what you have written.
(This is also to get some activity in this LOTR forum :D )

I've heard many people that think the lore master is the weakest (generally) class in LotRO, it's a shame you chose one for your first character.
Although having said this, many classes will go through low patches, where they can have dificulty performing efectively, then they can gain a new skill/weapon/armour etc. that'll fix their problems.
As you said, Loremaster's aren't like ele's in GW, they certainly don't have the best dps, or survivability, I believe they're mainly used similar to batterys (GW), and are great for stuns, roots, mez's and other hindering qualities.
Perhaps give another class a try, and maybe try a different race- not sure if it's the same with you, but I didn't like Ered Luin much.

Same problem. My first character is lore master. I kept hoping he would at least get faster in casting, and surviving. So far not much hope. The bear pet does better than me.
Hate being weak...and this build sure needs some help.

Yeah, it's such a shame really, hopefully they'll get some good skills in an update. I did however see Lore Masters being used to awesome effect in PvMP, their stuns and roots are devastating.

First and foremost I must say this Loremaster is in NO WAY a nuker. We are here for support/tactical use. With a good LM by your side your survivability rate is drastically increased. Who do we support?? Well everyone, I can stun/root mobs, refill peoples power as well as morale, drain power out of foes and debuff many attributes. When playin solo there is no difference now you need to support your pet. Just remember he goes down so do you in alot of cases. Each pet is even finally so whichever one you play Bear or Raven (I use Raven 75% of the time) keep in mind his strengths/weaknesses. Your Raven is fast and can put out some good damage and debuffs when he has all 3 abilities. His distraction ability combined with Sign of power: Protection can also make him a pretty effective tank. Keep him buffed and healed and he will tank just as well as the bear. Now as for the Bear which till resently I NEVER used. He gets 2 descent attacks along with a taunt. The major downfall is he is way to slow. Also his taunt can be broken by a hard hitting Light of the Rising Dawn. But if you keep his tummy loaded with Honey (bought from LM trainer) and try and use your LotRD BEFORE you taunt he can be very effective. Another main key to survival is "flanking" whenever your pet has the enemy flanked (you will see an icon looking like the pets attack under the enemies name) you can use your Sign of Power wizardry to get a nice heal to yourself. This will counteract all your morale cost in your good attacks. If these tactics still aren't working for you and you need to heal up this is one of the best uses for your stun Blinding Flash. Just stun your enemy and when you have a pet out you can use Inner Flame. It is a slow heal that heals a little bit per second so make sure your enemy is stunned so you get the full affect. Your last healing and surviving ability gained at 20 is Wisdom of the Council. This ability will almost fully heal your morale. An added bonus is whenever anything attacks you it has a chance to be stunned so this is a great thing for those tough spots.
Hopefully somethin here can help if you are still interested in the class I am happy as can be with my level 43 LM stompin through Angmar :D

Since i became lvl 16 it has become much easier. Cause now I can heal myself, and a combo between "The wind skill + Fire embers are dealing pretty damage. And if needed i can stun them for a little break. But again, i still thinks they need some kind of a buff.
Ohh yeah.. The Bear.. I hate it actually. I thought it was much better than the Raven, but it isn't :(. So now i just want the Eagle in lvl 50 ^^.

I am now level 27 and in a fellowship work mainly in keeping the minstrel alive and others when the skill finally recharges. Definately not the main healer, but a good patch.
