An Antibacterial, Biometric Mouse

Its a hand sanitizer, its a password encryption device...oh and its also a mouse? Yeah thats right, all those germy mice that you hook up to your PC will become a thing of the past if IOGear has anything to say about it. They have come out with a new laser mouse made of titanium dioxide and silver nano-particle compound. This contains anti-bacterial components so you dont get sick! It also comes with a biometric fingerprint reader. No one will break into your computer either.

The IOGEAR Personal Security Mouse with Nano Technology, AKA the GMEFP1W6 lets you login to a computer, Web site or anything password protected with the biometric feature. You can also use it to encrypt files, folders or the entire hard drive. You can sure up to 5 fingerprint profiles in it.

All this goodness is going to cost you around $90 in the US and is available at most major retailers and online resellers. The drivers are currently compatable with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista.

Just curious, does it come with its own flux capacitor?

Sounds like they could sell those to hospitals. Don't know why I wouls need it at home though. When you live with other people, it's going to take a lot more than an antibacterial mouse to keep from spreading germs and whatnot. The fingerprint reader would be kinda cool though.

Oh yeah, and here is a direct link to the page.

I have a serious "War of the Worlds" syndrome. Do you remember why those aliens died? Because they were so sterile they couldn't resist a few harmless germs. Apparently the lesson from that story seems to be lost on modern day society. We are flooded by complete ridiculous items like this sanitary mouse. But even more by rubbish like oust, lysol and putting unnecessary and ungrounded fears into us by the rich bio-chemical industry who wants to get even richer. And in the same time human society is getting more and more vulnerable. It is really scaring me.

Very true. People today are so afraid to get any kind of sickness that they just stuff anti-biotics down their throat like it's candy.
God forbid that they simply start living healthier.

RE: An Antibacterial, Biometric Mouse

Well, my remote Logitec mouse is on it's last legs and I'll be looking for another soon. They looked pretty nice.

As for the anti bacterial coating........ I have 2 dogs, I dig in the garden many times with bare hands, my GF works at a pre-school, my computer desk looks like something from the movie Twister and you can usually find last night's dinner plate sitting on the table next to my computer chair.

In short order I'm a messy, grungy slob that likes to play on my computer. I have plenty of germ interaction everywhere else in the world. Having a germ free mouse is just rediculous.

Lets see, the mouse pad and desktop are not germ free. My big ole man hands are 50% on the mouse, 50% on the desk. My wrist support isn't germ free, even though I windex it from time to time to clean off the dead skin.

This is just one more ploy to hook extreem germaphobes and a few soccer moms. I know my immune system gets a decent workout every year.

It's a good idea though. Someone has to cater to those people. It's mostly an untapped market in computer gear(target demographic = germaphobe)Mousepads and Mice are pretty nasty gear because unlike when you wash your hands before you eat a sammich, you don't think twice about coming inside from some nasty yard work and grabbing the mouse.

Ever eat a sammich while you sit at your computer and game?
You wash your hands, sit at your desk and grab the mouse, then pick up your sammich and start eating. Was there any point to that first hand washing?

Here's a mouse and keyboard combo that was designed to help reduce the spread of nasty things.

Perfect for those paranoid about germs and bacteria.

There is always the waterproof keyboard. I actually was thinking about getting one, not because I could disinfect it but because I dump all the time lol.

But yeah the keyboard and mouse are the dirtiest things in your office...eww. I think the mouse might be nice for a public place, not just a hospital but places like a library or internet cafe. It doesnt cut all germs but it might help. You dont know where other peoples hands have been...eewww? I mean comeon, and money....eewww...and public toilets....

Ok im a bit of a germaphobe but I admit it! LoL.

:-)

I may get one if it comes with a built-in starslip drive.

But seriously, if I can live with only changing the sheets on my bed every two weeks (keeping in mind that my cat sometimes sleeps on it as well), I can live with mouse-germs.
