hi,
A PvP character only has access to the areas where you fight against other people. ie person versus person or players versus players.
It has access to all skills that have been unlocked on the account for the primary class and secondary, as well as all items.
From guild wiki:
| QUOTE | | These Characters are level 20 with customized, maximum damage and protection weapons and armor. They can take part in all PvP matches (except low level arenas), even if no PvE character on that account has reached that location. PvP characters cannot enter explorable areas (besides the Isle of the Nameless) or cities. PvP Characters can unlock items with Faction, including: skills, runes, Heroes (Provided you have Nightfall), and item upgrades. |

a PvP Character starts out at the max level, level 20. A PvP Character can only access areas designated for PvP (Player Versus Player). So if you just want to fight other people, you can make a PvP Character and avoid the hassle of leveling up.
PvE Characters start at level 1, but have access to all the weapon and armor types, all the skills, and all the areas. you can go to PvP places with a PvE character too, but you need to level up your PvE character to have a chance against other level 20 characters. PvE Characters can also fight npc monsters, do missions, and participate in the storyline.

A PvP Character you can only Play in Player Vs Player Areas and you dont have access to the actual game.
With a Roleplaying you actually play the game with a Roleplaying you can do both PvP and PvE (PvE being Player Vs Enviroment and is the actual game)
If you make a PvP only you start off at level 20 which is max
Roleplaying you start at level 1 and work your way up.

A roleplaying character (or a PvE ==>Player vs Environment character) is a character that you will take through the missions ans quests of the various chapters of Guild Wars. It is a character which will interact not only with other characters but also with the AIs of GW. It is called more Player vs Environment because you don't see that many players on Anet doing true roleplay, and also because you have the option to take the missions all by yourself, with the help of mercenaries and heroes.
As for PvP (Player vs Player), it is the quick way to get a level 20 character, which will have items going along with its level, but having only the skills that you have unlocked with your other characters (except for some basic skills). This allows you to go quickly to restricted arenas, which are only for level 20 players. The best advice I can give you, though, is to make a PvP character only if you have unlocked plenty of skills with other characters because if you don't, you'll have a lot of trouble fighting other experienced players.
Oh, and btw, welcome to Gameamp!
