Hey!
ATM I am going afer Paragon Obsidian Armour...but I have noticed a somewhat scary decline in drops for me.
In about 25 UW runs solo (in a row), I have not had a single ecto drop and only a few gold drops. I make barely enough money from each run to cover entry (average 35g profit).
I used to be able to HM 55 farm naga, getting about 2 golds in 10 minutes, but now I am unable to even get purples from these runs.
Nowadays I can't even afford the keys I would like, and whenever I use a chest it seems to be req13 purples.
I cant pinpoint the exact moment the drops declined, but it did happen suddenly in the case of golds, and slowly for ectos.
So I was wondering, am I just really unlucky or is there something in the game that is actually stpping me getting good loot?

From what I hear Gold Drops and things like that are more likely to drop when there are more real players in the party.
But..someone else told me that Ectos and "rare" drops will still have the same percent, even if you soloed.
Lately, I haven't gotten any Ectos/Shards to drop for me in awhile. Seems more profitable to just go farm elsewhere and buy them from a seller... sense the prices are already low.

Nothing in the game is curving the drop rate. That was all just a myth. Have you hurt any small woodland creatures recently?

no it's just the drop rate thing is random so it happens. Maybe its a fow conspiracy since when i was saving for fow on my warrior i soloed UW with him and i got no ectos for idk how many runs, time after time. I just stopped farming for like a week or so and got tons of drops after. I then got 160 ecto(ectos were at 8k each) and 200k but i didnt wanna get fow anymore lol, all that time wasted...

Gold's and greens are unaffected by loot scaling so whether or not you solo or team farm it doesn't affect those. Loot scaling affects other drops though, except I'm not sure about whether or not rare crafting materials apply to the exclusion to the loot scaling rule. In any case drops are completely random. I can't see any reason for a decline except unluckiness. I'd stop doing it for like a week or two then start back up. I VwK farm and get about 1-2 ectos per run myself plus gem drops occasionally . Just stop for a bit, work on a new character or sumthing and start again.

wow quick responses, but I have some things to say in reply to some of you.
About leaving it a week then starting again, yes I've done that.
About farmign elsewhere, I still can't get enough money to buy the ectos, I get so few drops even in partys its insane. ATM I am stuck on a mere 7k. At my current farm rate (spending all my time farming) I will hit 10k on sunday.
About the drop curve, Anet originally said there was no anti-farm (I've been told) and it turned out there was, who says they cant be lying twice?

They did take out the drop curve. I honestly think your just getting into a rut of bad luck. I've farmed ectos using VwK w/rit build over a 100 times since after theyve taken out the anti-farming code and introduction of loot scaling(really just started this run). I can honestly say that i havent seen any difinitive drop in ecto or gold rates. I did 30 or 40 something runs when i first learned how to do the solo run without change to drop rates. Whereas when i used to Ettin farm before the coding was taken out id be getting almost no drops after even 20 runs if not less.

yeah,the first 3 runs i got like 2 ectos,then if i did a run after that i got nothing, os i waited a week, got nothing so ileft it,only did a hanfdful of runs yet i dont get much, i ide at the start too -.-. maybe its becoming over farmed?

Wait how is that true, that the drop rates haven't changed?
Becuase I thought that most items fell under neath the catogory of Loot scaling. What exactly does loot scaling do and who does it apply to cuz I think I might have a messed up idea of what loot scaling is.

Loot scaling:
- money
- white drops
- blue drops
- purple drops
Not affected by the loot scaling:
- rare crafting materials
- gold drops
- keys
Something that would be profitable for instance is undead farming. Takes a bit of time; but in general i get 3-10k out of it for a 30 to 45 min run. Start from bergen hot springs; fight your way to cursed lands and farm every foe there.
Use a Mo/D with a 105 setup; healing breeze is replaced by mystic regen.
Also to scale up the blues; whites and purps; use the hero/hench trick. Take them along; send them to their oblivion; make sure they are out of radar range and start farming. Their drops will become yours.

Loot scaling pretty much doles out loot as if you had a full party whether you are soloing or have 4/8 people or a full team. However there are exceptions to loot scaling. I know its greens and golds for sure. Theres a possibility that some rare crafting materials as well might be unaffected by loot scaling. Other than that, thats the most i can say about loot scaling from my experience.
Edit: Okay so Mriswith beat me to the punch with their own explanation ( GJ lol, XP ). So just to add to setting this in stone:

Yea I've just recently started 55 soloing(yesterday) and I been getting great drops from the bergen hotsprings areas. But how do you kill the Groups that have 2 monks< I useally just run past them and If I can get to the eittens I avoid the Tengue Wilds.
But A quick question with the henchmen idea, does that actually work how far do I need to send them, do they still get a portion of the gold coin drops?

If they're no longer in your compass and their names in the party window are no longer white but greyed out then they wont get a share of your loot. They HAVE to be outside of your compass range.

So if I get 105 gold drop and they are out of my compompasses range I get all the 105 but still recieve the increase of drops and benifiets of having people in my party?

There is no farming code anymore ( rogue told me ) and i didn't believe him so i tried it out and there is no code for the whites and blues but im not sure about the golds and purples.
I was doing a series of experments which i will resume when my nuker is recreated and i shall post the results for you to read.
I have 2 theories which i hope to prove / disprove, cancelling out one at a time and testing.

Well I'll just answer like this.
I got FOW for my monk almost a year ago, and I haven't gotten alot of gold drops since. I used to do 55/SS farming and then the newer smiter/bonder farming and the ectos dropped pretty often. But now it's as if ANET hates my account. Its really pissing me off. Especially after I got bored from PVP and became a Deep geek for about four days. think I did 12 runs and out of 30 lockpicks, not one got retained.

It's just it just seems like theres no way it could be this simple Anet for sure would of saw this little henchmen idea and would of coded for it. So eh I dont know... I'll try it anyways.

bad karma ;) j/k I think it's just bad luck since Anet reduced the drop rate they "supposedly" eliminated the antifarm but heck I'd be happy to survive 5 minutes in the UW the only time I went in I got killed by the aataxes in about 30 seconds =(

to evryone telling me to 55 farm, I alrdy do, and I do it well. I can farm anything that is common and more, and quickly too. My problem is a run of undead for example, should net me 3k and plenty of golds, but I get no golds, a few purples and about 1k of other loot.
Yeah I also got my necro fow armour, and I didnt uw farm for ages after that, as I had spent so much time in there the last few days before I got it gettign the last of my ectos (I bought a fair few of them, and they were at 11k each then). I had to gaher 9 more tho cus I borrowed them from guildies. I got 7 in one evening and since I've not had one in UW, I got 1 in tombs and the other I bought.
I really like the paragon fow set and also dont like the other paragon sets. My para is my only survivor character and I rly enjoy using him. Paragons are so versatile, even with 8 skills they can buff, heal, support and deal damage.
