I have 3 questions to ask the folks in the Gameamp Community.
_____________________________
1. Which brand of Graphics Cards are more suited to Gaming?
--- ATI
--- Nvidia
I don't want to start a fight or anything, but be honest, which one for a 24" monitor. I don't mean to ask for the bestest, but I am asking for a recommendation as to which one to get for at an economic price, like around $100 - $250.
2. Would y'all recommend Crossfire or SLI? Which one would you recommend more?
Most Importantly:
3. Where do most of you go to shop for a computer online? To build your own computer and pick your own parts at a good cost.
_____________________________
It would be great for everyone to tell me as I am thinking about a new computer.
Like I said, I don't want to start up any arguments on which brand of what is better, all I need is a recommendation!
Thanks,
ME
- Edit, I also play a lot of other games such as BF 2142 and stuff and I'd love to turn the graphics up high, lol.
- And a bigger monitor requires more memory on the graphics card to run it.
- BTW I think 4 gigs of RAM should be enough eh?

20" LCD is great for gaming, Ati or nVidia is great too, but if your gonna play just guidwars a cheap Intel GMA950 64MB Graphics Card will suit you, ive seen computers with that card run gw pretty good. Also RAM is the key to making things run fast.

Nvidia (they've come up some really great hardware lately, especially for gaming)
2. Would y'all recommend Crossfire or SLI? Which one would you recommend more?

I do it at my own local computer shop, so can't help you their.

Off course, but at which price?

Any of both brands should suffice, though Nvidia is the biggest brand in Video Cards, and also the most up to date to release the 8800GTX, which surpasses the latest of ATI cards. Though this is probably already countered, but in a budget of yours, none of them is ''bad''.
2. Would y'all recommend Crossfire or SLI? Which one would you recommend more?
Both are fine, SLI was there earlier and Crossfire is more or less ATI's counterattack against Nvidia's SLI, ofcourse... it all comes down to which brand of cards you buy.

I go to local shop, and i think that ones too far away for you :/

Most likely with a bit of tweaking you can turn things up, i do suggest turning these options up the last or ''sacrifice'' them for more quality textures:
Anti-Aliasing (makes the Pixels on edges look smoother, try it on and off in GW's)
Shadows, suck alot of power, unless a game you play requires shadows to betray someone's approach, turn it as low as you can withstand to crank everything else up.
- And a bigger monitor requires more memory on the graphics card to run it.
Aye, the bigger the resolution and refresh rate, the more power the cards must supply.
- BTW I think 4 gigs of RAM should be enough eh? |
Plenty of it yeah, 1GB is recommended if your using Vista, 2GB is very nice. And 4GB is in the ''relax'' zone, ofcourse, more = better, but 4GB surely supplies you with enough.
GOOD LUCK ;)

My take on things:

1. Which brand of Graphics Cards are more suited to Gaming?
I prefer ATI, but they are both good brands....ATI is known to get a slightly higher FPS, while nvidia is known to(though I dont see the difference) have slightly better quality on the same settings.
2. Would y'all recommend Crossfire or SLI? Which one would you recommend more?
Even though I prefer ATI, Nvidia's SLI seems to be doing better than ATI's Crossfire.
Most Importantly:
3. Where do most of you go to shop for a computer online? To build your own computer and pick your own parts at a good cost.
I use Newegg.com for all my computer needs, being in California now, I get 1-day shipping while paying for their standard shipping, though I have to pay tax on it now.
|
And yes, 4 gigs of ram should be plenty....in today's world, 1 gig is average, 2 gigs is plenty to play any current game.

I'll second the Newegg.com reccomendation. My current rig is all from them (except the VidCard...got it cheap at CompUSA due to a going out of business sale :p)
If Death takes me now I shall not fear, for I have lived and life is good.

For video cards, i dont think it makes a HUGE difference if you choose between ATI or Nvidia. There probably are some slight differnces, but for the most part you cant notice them. I use Newegg.com for my computer parts and i am currently ordering parts for a whole new computer. Hope this helps. :D

well last time i read a tomshardware article saying that windows xp 32-bit only see up to 2gigs of ram. unless you're running xp 64-bit, buying 4gigs of ram will be a waste.
just thought i wouldn't point that out.

To answer your third question there are 2 places I primary buy parts from. The first is NewEgg.com (and my favorite) and the other is zipzoomfly.com. Both are an excellent choice.
As for video cards, its more of a personal preference. And personally, I think Nvidia is best.

I show Fry's Electontrics for the sales. Built my system for under $600
Shuttle
AMD 64 3000+
ATI 9600 AIW 128
2GB DDR 400 DDR
+$250 for the 20.1" widescreen Viewsonic
+$100 for the logictech wireless kb and mouse setup

4gig is too much for Windows XP. 3GB should be the max
edit: I am running XP 64bit. Dont waste your time. Not enough driver support out there. Vista 64 is facing the same problem with driver support. I have two wireless cards, Linsys and Netgear, neither have 64 bit drivers.
I'll be going back to XP 32 bit this weekend.
