Dear Arena-Net

A-net, if you can hear me. This is my open letter to you. I am worried. Worried about the mission bonus pack.

I am a simple gamer, playing 1-2 hours every day. Now, that you want to make money, I can understand that. I have nothing against it, since it is what makes this game run, what keeps the servers up. By adding small package content, your making a smart choice. But some things are missing. I feel that you've skipped a few points.

To most fans like me, holding the box in my own bare hands, that's important. I won't get the same fuzzy feeling by double-clicking the buy now button. Fan art is important, just as on CD-s. It's an everyday object one can look at and adore. I have all the other posters on one of my walls. How come we can't get it as a stand-alone product in the shop down the street?

I don't want the whole thing cancelled, I don't want it taken away from the online-shop. What I want, is that the bonus can be made available to everyone. Why limit it to the online shop? Why narrow it down?

There is currently a product you are selling. There's a huge demand for it. A lot of the players of GW are in their teenages, just like me. It is legal to play GW at the age of 12. But, not every kid here around has got a nice flashy credit card. Heck, in most countries you can't have one before the age of 15. See where this is heading? Picture it. Your 13, with no credit card. Who do you go to then? Your mom and dad. Now if you told your parents that you need to borrow their credit card so you can buy a game online, what would the responce be do you think? Of course they are going to be sceptic, online purchases can be quite dodgy, full of scams.

So there you are, no game for you. Why must it be like that?

There is a product. (supply)
There is a demand.

So please, ANet, give us the possibility, to spend our money on the product. Either release an standalone gamepack buyable in the game stores (which could even cost more than in the online shop), or release buyable digital codes, that can be bought in the game stores...

Signed; Wyat Hawke

You know, not every Country has that service... Here in Norway we don't. And I know, how free is it really? just looked up some info: The pre-paid card can't be ordered online and costs 30€ a year. (There is no cost if you spend more than 500€ a year with this card, but why having a card like that then???)

It isn't as easy as it should be.

EDIT: Taken from the German Visa site

think ireland have one but still.
its kinda cruel not t allow certain people not to get a bonus becasue they dont have acces to buying online.

- a €5-10 retail version would work imo

RE: Dear Arena-Net

Additional things I forgot to mention.. Let's say that I theoretically had a credit card. This is what I would have to go through

  • The ingame store lacks all privacy and security standards used by any online store I know. Just compare it to amazon or any other.
  • I have to fill in a form for a playNC account with my private data (street adress, phone number) which aren't required for the purchase. I have yet to see an American or European online store w/o a privacy/safety statement and w/o any possibility to check the legal details of the shop. basically I don't even know, who is receiving the data I am sending there.
  • The prices for a GW download from the GW ingame store are higher than the prices for boxed versions at other online stores or the local electronics megastores
  • Exchange rates USD/Euro are so wrong, that Euro customers have to pay several $ more per game than US $ customers.

I'm frustrated.

Sir, with all due respect, but if you have nothing else to say, then please move along... Is it totally impossible to get something constructive said? Is that really how much you care?
I'm feeling mighty close to flaming you after this, so I'll stop it here

It all sems rather pointless to me. I mean I am sure everyone who can afford things on the online store and buy them do. People who can't go to brick and mortar places. People who can use the online store don't really need any kind of inspiration to use it.

RE: Dear Arena-Net

i know how you feel, i want the box/art/manual and the bonuspack to...

it seems A-net doesnt care about the younger players, or the players that want the box and the bonus pack.

wanting extra is ok, because that is what keeps GW running, but by making us pissed off by these sort of things is not what i know A-net of, wheres the old A-net? :'(

Ok, I gave you my best answer. Get the bank check card. Anyone can. Have fun out there and good luck.

Personally, besides having another Guild Wars box, I have 7, I would rather A-net fix some current issues. Lag being one of them.

edit: spelling

RE: Dear Arena-Net

Although I live in the U.S and can get the bonus pack I totally agree with Wyat. I'd much rather pay cash at a store than use a credit card online. Besides, what happens when you have purchased all that you can from the online store? The pack is no longer available to you. So Arena-net is actually keeping young as well as dedicated players from getting this exclusive bonus.

You can be young and open a checking account with $40 and get a check card with the Visa or Mastercard logo. Is this available to you in your country? If not try to sign up online at an American credit union.

well, i've bought the million year edition and some slots with my credit card, which had all my information on it. just to make you relax(?), untill now, i have not had any a-net or any other person trying to rape/kidnap/shoot me yet even thought i have given my information away into the world wide web!

cba to quote the other things so i'll just let it like this. i think you are just going into it too much? games are there to be enjoyed, don't let yourself be distracted by simple things like that. i don't think anet just put online store there without thinking about it first? even though it might seem like it?

SOMETIMES in CERTAIN ocasions it's really great to do things without thinking about it properly first ;p most often you just lose your hope/faith/and especially TIME in things you shoudn't.

No Box Art and Bonus Pack.

I agree, I would also rather buy the thing in a retail store than online. My country doesn't offer credit cards that easy and to go through all that fuss is just too much and I can't afford to waste my time. Takes 30 minutes to get to the shop and buy it, takes days (weeks?) to get a credit card issued here.

RE: Dear Arena-Net

There is a great cost to making this available in a physical form and having it marketed by stores on your behalf. The product is far too small to be sold on its own and probably any price tag beyond $9.99 US would be excessive.

The other problem is the barrier to purchase by making it available online simply because a good number of low income or younger people simply don't have a credit card and wont go to the trouble to do this.

Solution :
1) Maintain the website offer as it is an excellent promotion idea that promotes spending by the community and having this package thrown in free while you're at it.

2) With the recent expansion to be released and completing the original GW story...make this add on part of a Collector's Edition as there was none planned. You can charge $10.00, people will pay it...and you don't need to add much more than a product key to the existing box.
