Re: Any Update on Netcode?

It's still being worked on, kinks are being worked out, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that it is improving, and once it is closer to perfection it will be publicly open again.

There are still some definite issues that need to be smoothed out of course, so it's best to just be patient. So don't expect it to be competition-ready for (my total guess) at least another month or so. He's the only one that'll know when the new newnet is planned to be released, however.

Now he'll probably post to tell me I'm completely wrong about everything =[

Re: Any Update on Netcode?

He's totally recoded it and has done it totally different. It doesn't touch any of the physics stuff or movement or anything. I've played a lot of tests on it and it's been working tremendously with no bugs that haven't been fixed already for the next version. It's coming along very nicely... but I do not speak for Lotus, just what I have seen from testing.

It's not enough to succeed, others must fail.

:D

Here's to hoping it's done in time to get adopted by Americup.

I already talked to tex about that, and no it won't be mandated at the americup.

Re: Any Update on Netcode?

I played with it on the scrapbin today and enjoyed it very much. The hitboxes feel dead on now and the shot not registering bug feels minimal to non-existent not that I care anyway because it's a massive improvement over 80 ping. Good work Lotus. Can't thing of a thing wrong with it. =D

Re: Any Update on Netcode?

my only worry is that if its truly client-side, the guy getting hit gets jipped...you can't properly avoid someone with a different ping, just because you're not in their line of sight on your monitor doesn't mean you won't get shot. i wonder if its possible for lotus to do it so it double checks and eliminates shots that will appear through a wall/floor/mesh.

Lotus has already explained that it is not client-side.

Re: Any Update on Netcode?

It still isn't playable if you have packet loss, though. Tested it earlier today with some !N! guys and they'll agree; they saw me warping all over when I had the slightest PL spike.

I've also tested it without PL and it felt very solid, so basically as it stands it's a good option for teams if both have clean connections. Shouldn't become mandatory unless it benefits everyone though (and even then it's up for debate).

Re: Any Update on Netcode?

Glad to see that Lotus hasn't given up on the enhanced netcode. =]
BTW, will this also work on a Listen Server?
