When I try to log in the first thing the Updater does is checksum. next it says it is fixing files and when it is almost done it says "checksum failed on piggs/sound\/2.pigg click ok to do a full checksum on all files. You may be out of disk space or you may be trying to install to a location where you have insufficient permissions. That leads to a loop that goes nowhere. I have tried reinstalling the entire game but that didnt do anything. I have more than enough hard drive space and i have no clue what the permissions thing means. Any advice so I can start playing again?

Any firewalls set up? I used to not be able to log in, permissions generally with me were "grant access to the internet once" "always" "never". Try looking into your firewalls

no its nothing to do with firewalls. i have been playing about two years and this never happened until i crashed a few days ago so i think its related to that.

lol big, i technically never left paragon (unlike someone i know). Statesman kept getting his $15 a month, he just saw a little less of my pretty face. but in all seriousness if i cant figure out an answer to this problem i probably will leave paragon for good.

Easy option: Go to My Computer -> C: Drive -> Program Files -> City of Heroes. There's a file there that is named "Coh.checksum". Delete it.
Relaunch the game so the updater runs. It will rechecksum all the files.
Slightly Less Easy Option: Go to the same folder, delete the checksum file again. Go into the PIGGS folder, delete the SOUNDV2.PIGG file. Relaunch the updater again.
If that fails, the next option is going to take a real lot longer.
Long Option: Go to that same folder and delete EVERYTHING except the CoH updater.exe file and the Screenshots folder. Rerun the updater. If you do this, it's going to have to redownload the ENTIRE game, which will take a LONG time.
Hopefully the first or second option will fix it. If not, the third one definitely will.

My only suggestion at this point is to totally uninstall and reinstall. And don't use the test server if you ever do.

Just a Shot in the dark here, but how much free space is there on your C:\ Drive?

Blasters kill everything, usually before they get killed themselves. When it comes to dealing pain, a blaster has no equal. We just have a hard time taking our own medicine! So we love Tanks and 'fenders!

I tried that before I posted anything here but it didnt work. I guess its worth another shot. Why shouldnt I ever go on test?

The only time I've ever had anything close to this happen, it was a permissions issue. I had logged onto a machine with a different identity (my sons) and it wouldn't run. What I eventually did to fix it was replace the cohupdater.exe with one off of another machine and that fixed it. Something can get wonky in the cohupdater.exe having to do with permissions. Don't ask me what, i don't know. But thats what fixed his machine.
If you have actually completely uninstalled the entire program and deleted the folder then the problem has to be in the machine somewhere. That removes the program completely from the equation. Have you tried installing to another folder, a different named one? Maybe there is an errant registry entry referring to the old folder location.

check your ram/ram slots.
I had an issue similar to this, and found out that one of my ram modules had gone bad.
