my new shirt...

while in visiting canada I bought this shirt that said in large letters:FLICK OFF
and I was wondering if I would get into trouble on my first day of school. I know that when you see the words "flick off" its usually insulting, but this shirt is centered around global warming, and "flicking off the switch" on it. So do you gameampers think i would get into trouble? these are the shirts i bought:

They may try to say the shirts are inappropriate but there is absolutely nothing wrong with them but i will agree that from a distance the flick off might look like the F word

Thats sorta the point...

'Sort of' is such a harmless thing to say. Sort of. It's just a filler. Sort of - it doesn't really mean anything. But after certain things, sort of means everything. Like after 'I love you' or 'You're going to live' or 'It's a boy.'

If you wore that shirt to my school, you'd have to go home and change. I don't care what it actually says, it looks like it says the F-word, you know it looks like it says the F-word, and that's why you're wearing it. You know you'd only wear it so you could get in trouble and then try to get out of it by telling them what all these others are telling you to. And you'd probably get away with it, in todays public school system, and all your friends would think it was a great laugh. I've got two words for you: Grow up.

Little harsh don't you think? I think people should wear what ever they want as long as it will not initialize violence. "not shirts that say something like that but gang colors"

I have worn jeans and a t-shirt to a formal dance before. I say wear what ever makes you comfortable no matter where it is at.

i agree with brynden 100%. Dont wear it, u KNOW ur going to get asked about it by a teacher and u just wanna have a reason to argue that u didnt deserve to get in trouble and te school system is unfair. How do I know? bcuz i used to do stupid crap like that too. i realized that people will laugh with u about it for a little and then after a little it just becomes immature junior high school stuff that nobody wants to deal with anymore

Bottom line: Dont wear it.

RE: my new shirt...

If you believe that the reason you are wearing them is because of the global warming then wear them, by all means, wear them, and be proud your doing your bit towards saving the environment.

if on the other hand your just wearing them like so many ppl that were French Connection UK clothes cuz it looks like the f word and u want a rise out of your teachers to amuse yourself and your mates then don't wear them.

It's only worth wearing them and possibly getting into trouble if your doing it for sumthing you truly believe in, imo

At Brynden and Vulpes:

I asked for your opinion, not a flame on how old I am or how immature I'm being. Oh and Vulpes, ever think I am in junior high?

You asked my opinion, i gave it to you. If it seems like/is a flame then sorry but I dont take back what I said. Even if u are in junior high (and i know im not ur father) but you would be alot better of if u matured now and knew when was the time to joke around and when was the time to be serious.

RE: my new shirt...

I beleive that he should wear them, if the teachers say that he shouldnt wear it then they are against global warming, bearing in mind they are supposed to be trying to stop it.

Also i agree that if they do mis-see it then they should wear glasses or better glasses

On the 1st shirt the "Flick Off" is a little small but the fact that there is a sort of picture of earth on it counters the "Flick Off"

On the 2nd shirt it is obvioulsy clear.

A word for the person who said "Grow up":

Im sorry 2 say but you dnt know what this person is wearing the shirt for, so y try and say what he is thinking. That was too harsh.

RE: my new shirt...

I hope you guys know that the point of putting the words "flick off" is meant for appeal to kids. Because I bet you if one hundred kids wore shirts that said "flick off, stop the global meltdown" in front of the white house, it would have more affect than one hundred adults wearing the same shirt. Why? because if a kid can realize it that the world is going to end unless its stopped, adults should realize it to. So, to Brynden and Vulpes, if your so "mature" did you realize this?

Yesterday.

Anyways, some people say Grow Up, well, i defintely hate that bloody subject, what can you define as ''mature'' anyways? Paying Bills?

It's just a tee shirt, yes, you are right it looks like the ''F'' word, but it's still all between your ears what you make off it.
Cause if you see the ''F'' word in it, i think your the one that needs to adjust your language and erase the offensive words, simple. :)

o_o;; At first i thouht it said the word >< People probably would thing its the f word because the L and I look almost like a 'U' I dont really believe you should wear it to school, because it wont do anything, what will happen? youll most likely get in trouble, a few laughs here and there, but overall, it didnt really help earth one bit. If you really want to try to help, use solar, wind, or water power! TREE HUGGERS FTW ( lol )

RE: my new shirt...

I would wear it and if a teacher or other staff member confonts u about it, oh well, jus bring anuther shirt w/ u just in case. my high skool has a stupid dress code an the students couldnt wear chains on their pants or on their wallet. i was the only chick and only student that didnt get in trouble with wearing TRIPP pants or wearing the chain on my wallet.
If these shirts mean so much to you, defend yourself.
The worst that could happen is u would get detention. big deal, a couple hours to sit an do nuffin, unless ur one of those fidgity ppl an cant sit still.

However, i like those shirts, im not much of an activist or whatever the term is, but i would wear them cuz it does make a good statement.

I'm sure the younger students will chuckle at them cuz it does look like the F word but u can laugh at them for not reading correctly.

sorry for being so long-winded, i kinda do that about opinionated stuff..got too much goin on in my brain an i cant really get the exact word but i hope the point is clear

RE: my new shirt...

you just dont understand do u? there are no benefits to wearing the shirt to school! it is a waste of time and a waste of the other students'/teachers' time. it is distracting to the classroom environment so you WILL get in trouble. wanna spread the word about global warming? do it in a way that doesnt cause drama (which it is apparrent you are trying to do)

Alternative ways to spread the word on global warming
Tell people about it
Ask your school to set up global warming week or something
Inform your school about the benefits of recycling used paper/lunch drink cartons.

If you say these arnt worth the time or touble then it shows 100% you are only trying to cause drama and that u dont support global warming prevention as much as you say you do.

no matter what you say there is no reason for u to wear that shirt unless all ur other clothes are at the wash or a murderer says if u dont wear that shirt....well u get it. im no longer going to post on this thread as it is also pointless and if u dont wanna take my advice (which is what you ASKED for in the first place in case u dont remember) then o well u'll find out when school starts it wasnt worth it.

ciao

How do you waste time wearing a T-Shirt?

Anyway, I think you should wear it. It delivers a good message, and people who think that it looks like a bad word may be right.

Solution: Don't think it. It's only as bad as you make it out to be.

He does not need to "grow up" either, he made a mature decision in supporting Global Warming, and you have failed to see that.

I say who cares what the shirt is saying.

The entire front and back can be just cuss words and I would not care. Even if he does not care about global warming and just cares about getting a joke/rise out of people then so be it. There are other problems in this world that are more important then ink on a shirt.

I say wear what ever you want.

RE: my new shirt...

Yeah, what I said probably came across pretty harsh, it made me mad, but I meant what I said. Would have been better to say it like Slye did though. But if you think me telling you to grow up is a flame, you're wrong. You asked for my opinion and I gave it, in perhaps an overly blunt way, but that's just the way I am. And what you said about kids rallying in front of the white house making a bigger impact than adults, that just doesn't make any sense. If the government valued kids' opinions more highly than they do adults', don't you think they'd be allowed to vote?

And for the guy who asked how wearing a T-shirt wastes teachers' time, he meant wearing this particular t-shirt wastes teachers' time, since they would most likely punish him for doing so. And if they suspended him for it, he'd probably go ahead and sue them for it, wasting a good deal of tax dollars on top of it.

Edit: Oh, and for all of you people that are saying he should just tell people to get better glasses, with my contacts in I have perfect vision, and it still looks like the F-word. In case you didn't catch on, it's supposed to look like the F-word, so that's kind of a lame excuse.

If your one of those kids who feel they need the 2 minutes of attention you may get from wearing this t-shirt then wear it, if however you wanna how stupid and pointless it actually is then give it to a mate to wear..

...If you want people to be aware that you love the planet (which you probaly don't anyway) then walk around singing the earth song wearing sandals and handing out energy efficient light bulbs :D

hope this helps, shawn.
