| Anet talking to us about the lag |
|
|
|
Ok third weekend in a row where I've rage quit the game simply becuase I can't play, today it started with Shenzun Tunnels not loading then progressed to screen freezes. I am losing patience.
I know there are topics about lag elsewhere but I wanted to be really specific, some of those other topic titles arent likely to grab Anets attention, I want to know whats happening, Ive gone over to Guru and see no major update of info there.
It would be nice to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel or do we just go play something else? Truth is there is nothing else out there as good IMO, I'd be happy to know that it is being worked on and that there is an expected resolution. Until I know that a fix is likely its pointless logging back on.
Edit just spotted this on the official site
| QUOTE |
Latency Issue Update – 13 July
Early this morning, NCsoft conducted maintenance at our data center in Frankfurt, Germany in a continuing effort to resolve latency issues experienced by those playing on or through the European servers. The problem is not internal to Guild Wars, but rather was related to data center routing gear. The hardware vendor identified an issue in the routing software that was patched during the maintenance. Early indications are that this has resolved the issue but the network teams at both ArenaNet and NCsoft will continue to monitor and work with the vendor if further measures are needed to resolve the matter.
In other news, some European players may have experienced a disconnection from the game at around 19:00 GMT this evening. We do not know the reason for this momentary disconnection, but our data shows that players were able to reconnect and play without trouble after the incident. We are working with hardware vendors and ISPs to determine the possible cause of the disconnect and to take whatever steps we can take to prevent it happening again in the future. |
Unfortunately for alot of us it seems the early indications were wrong

EG is in Euro same as me.
It's the weekend now so I wouldn't expect a fix until Monday. I updated my ticket today but I've not had a speedy response like I did in the week.
At least I know I'm not the only one.

Although I think Anet is doing the best they can to fix this
already, I'll support this action by a reply, because I'm also
heavily suffering from this error. I can't get any decent
consecutives in RA in the double rewards weekend with an
average ping of 5,000+.

in the conversation posted by kanna (with gaile gray). she (gaile) claims they are working on it. if that really is the truth we should stop nagging about it. we can be sure that Anet knows about the problem and are working to fix it (as they are payed to do so).
I would apreciate it if all these topics stop and we just wait a little to see what happens.

On Guild Wars Wiki Gaile has been updating about the status of extreme lag and it seems like its not getting better quickly. I'm not sure what to say besides that but I'm on American servers and I live in the U.S. and I've been getting about 500-1000 ms even though I normally get like less than 100 usually. Not nearly as bad as last weekend, but still, it's very frustrating.

Gaile:
| QUOTE | | We're exchanging flurries of mails with the network teams on both sides of the Atlantic, trying to sort this out as quickly as possible. There was definite improvement yesterday, I even got the "All clear" notification. Today -- something is wrong yet again. The team's are on it and the best thing that you can do it send, or update, a Support Ticket and provide your -diag file or your tracerts. Those were instrumental in the strides that they made and will surely help them again. --Gaile |

I've been having a real bad day with Anet support.
I'm still fighting with them just for a simple yes or no answer of is it a violation of The Terms of Service if I use a 'third party program' such as Wine or Cegeda so that I can run Guild Wars on my Linux system. I got it working and I know that they don't support it and crap... but argh! I can't get a simple yes or no... I'm still fuming over that.

I understand it's annoying to see the same kind of topic, my concern was that Anet may not be seeing the full extent of the problem because post titles weren't really reflecting the content of relevant threads, thats why I made this one.
It is obvious that there are many, many players affected by this and the more news we have the better, we all love the game and miss being able to play it. I know Anet are working on this and that they are doing the best they can, they will want to know that the problems are still occuring after the server maintenance on thursday, unfortunately people who weren't affected now seem to be joining those of us who are.
Information is the key - both in what we know and what we can supply to Anet in order to help them resolve it. As consumers of this awesome product we want to know how long we can expect to wait and what we can do to help resolve it.
Having trawled through other resources it is very clear that Anet are working on this problem, I also found out that when raising a support ticket with them about this you can include a diagnostic report generated by the games own diagnostic function.
To create a diagnostic report the easiest thing is to either create a new shotcut to GW on your desktop or alter the original one.
1. Right click on your shortcut and select properties
2. Select the 'Shortcut' tab
3. replace
| QUOTE | | "C:Program FilesGuild WarsGw.exe" |
With
| QUOTE | | "C:Program FilesGuild WarsGw.exe" -diag |
The -diag must come after the closed quotation marks
4. Click OK
5. Double click the shortcut to start the diagnostic
6. When it's finished (it will take a few minutes) click Close. A text document will then appear 'NetworkDiag.log'
7. Save that text file somewhere easy to find so you can attach it to a support ticket if you plan on sending one
Once thats finished you can right click on your shortcut and remove the -diag so that it works as normal.
My apologies to those of you who don't have this problem and arent interested in seeing these threads but just be patient with your fellow GW players and community members who want to get this sorted so we can be just like you - happy GW players :)

Might be an idea to let this drop and then just bump it Monday morning, I doubt the support team work through the weekend. I've had no response today where as Thursday they got to me within half an hour.

Looks like they have a partial fix in place. Both this morning and late this evening it was fine however at peek European time around 18:00-21:00 BST(British Summer time), the lag was very bad. So for the third Saturday in a row my guild had to abandon GvG as to many of us were lagging.
Hugs,

Ok ok, I gotta admit...
It was me who caused europe an aweful lot of lag..
At least, that's what I make up from the mail I got from NCSoft after sending them tracerts and diaglogs with a ping of 18K+ ^^

Wiki info about the lag
| QUOTE | | Addendum 6 -- 16 July 12:30 AM (7:30 GMT): The Network team undertook emergency maintenance measures at approximately Midnight PDT July 15 (7:00 GMT) as part of the effort to correct the lag issue. This maintenance will have disconnected each player, but he or she should have been able to reconnect within two or three minutes. We will update with more information later. Players with continuing issues are encouraged to submit or update a Support Ticket with as many details as possible. Thank you. |
I know theres still alot of people with problems, mine seems to have been mostly fixed by this latest maintenance. Hopefully Trib will update his video drivers and we will all be fine :)
On a more serious note the wiki page is your best resource at the moment if your still suffering from major lag problems, I had it for almost three weeks and it was incredibly frustrating, I hope they manage to sort it out for the rest of us soon.
