I was wondering if I could get some thoughts on what you guys think is the best pet for PVP. Right now I have a cat that's specced to do damage. He's at 105 dps. My hunter is starting to get pretty decked out and my pvp skills are getting better. So I want to make sure I have the best pet ever.

I dont see a lot of pets in level 70 pvp, but when I do they are cats. So I would assume kitties are the way to go. Though I sometimes see gorillas because they have a crapload of armor.

I would care less, in PvP it doesnt matter too much. And for PvE the difference wouldnt be enough to worry about or to matter. I have Humar, hes the cooliest. Even though I don't play my hunter anymore. Stupid orc shoulders got fucked up.

Usually cats, cause you want to make sure you get the most damage in the least amount of time possible. Also I see lots of birds, but I don't know why, cause I honestly have no experience as a hunter.

People use owls a lot because they have a lot of agility I think, and the attack speed is VERY very fast.

Also note that owls have a specific ability called screech or something. I'm not quite sure what it does anymore, but I do know that it generates plenty of aggro (basically a second growl) and is therefore considered as a good pve tanking pet.
I have heard good things about wind serpents as well, because they do magic damage that ignores armor (just make sure you don't get one with caster stats).

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I'm gonna try out the wind serpent for the ranged attack. I have a feeling that my kitty is gonna be the best option though. In PVP u need the damage not the armor since nobody tries to kill pets. That means gorillas are out.
By the way...pets matter in pvp cause they attack when you are cc'd, they interrupt casters, take freeze trap hits for you, etc.

Boars simply for the 1sec root effect their charge has. Personally I'm an adamant boar hater for RP reasons but you can't deny their prowess in PvP.

The one pet that no has and always over looks, the scropid. I love my scorpid very much, and they have a DoT (scorpid poison) ability, which is useful for stoppin them rouges from dissappearing. They also have a stack of armor.
Their offical stats:
97% damage
100% health
110% armor
^Good PvE tanking pet^
As for PvP well its probably gona have to be the cat or the wolf I spose.

Well before all the pets got all generalized, I had Broken Tooth, and he had a 1.0 attack speed, and that is great for PvP, especially against mages. And in PvP, your pet isn't really going to need that much armor since most of the time, the person you're attacking isn't going to go after your pet unless they're just bored or something.
So right now I'm using a Crocalisk, the one from Stormwind in the river(The white one).

Wow you actually tamed that? And yea I had Humar b4 the huge pet nerf, he was awesome. 1.2 attack speed I think, really messed up the casters.

Haha yeah, it took awhile, I died once and had to have my friend keep healing me, but it was worth it I suppose...Everyone on my server is so amazed that it's white, kinda funny.
But that huge pet nerf really did just screw up pets, since now there isn't really a point in getting a rare pet like Broken Tooth or another fast attack speed pet except for color, kinda lame...

Well from my limited experience in PvP the Hunter with the Boar or the Gorilla are causing me the most grief. The Boars are the worst. We can usually kill the Hunters coming in with cats more easily but obviously they get us plenty too.
My Hunter is coming up to the Razorfen Down range and I think I'll get one of those Armored ones. I like the look and figure my Hunter will rely more on PvP gear than Raid gear in the upper levels. I had already planned on getting into the scorpids. I'm interested in how well they perform.
From the recieving end of a Hunter's attention, I say the Boar.

I have seen more stealth tigers than anything else in PvP so I would go with them. Especially if you are night elf. With the whole stealth and all.

personally i choose a pet that goes with my hunters race or my own fighting style like a cat or an owl for a night elf and maybe a boar or a gorilla for an orc so on and so forth

I, and Kranky, are quite disgusted with that answer, lol. How could you say no to a gorilla?! My favorite pet in the whole game! Oh well, opinions I say. I take my gorilla with me no matter where I go.
Also, unless you go beastmaster, I honestly don't see a big deal about picking a specific pet for PvP.

It does make a difference what pet you bring Beastmaster or not. Sure your pet might be a little more squishy, but the fights never last long enough for pet squish factor to really matter.
The Hog and Gorilla both have stuns and interupts.
The Cats are the best rounded DPS pets.
The Scorpids are tough and apply a poison that starts ticking away a dot.
I'll bet you could find a good use for the flying serpents as well. I just don;t know them very well yet. They aren't coming at me in PvP yet, but I imagine I'll see one eventually.
You simply have to match your playstyle in PvP to the pet.
Since they leveled the attacks speed on them all, the Hogs and Gorillas can make it difficult for casters like me big time. All it takes is one stun and I might not have time to recover before one of their teammates gets me. One on one it's just as frustrating.
Now if you're not Beastmaster I'll fear your pet off most likely, but that's a huge waste of time for me to try if I can't when I should be generating DPS.

The only thing gorilla's have for them movewise is their thunderstomp, which is basically a warriors...thundershock aoe thingy, without the slow down attack rate. Haven't seen stuns at all with Kranky.
Poisons with scorpions might would help, but I'm thinking the poison isn't that much damage compared to a shot or two of your normal auto attacks, I'll investigate later today though.
Also, I would say that cat's stealth attacks would help, and would most likely be the best dps pet family in the game, but then again, PvP isn't all about damage all the time, need to bring the stuns and what not in there. But 70 PvP wise, I'd say bring a boar or a cat that could stealth.

The only reason I use an owl is so that I could name it hooter. :D
Actually, that was an after thought. I wanted an owl because I didn't see many people using them and I wanted to be different.

I notice no one has mentioned the ravagers from Burning Crusades, I'm only 25 so far but I got him at level 10 cause he seems to have amazingly high burst dps while his sustained seems right around what an equally trained cat has. Is this something that goes away as you level or am I the only hunter that went with ravagers?

got a ravager,he DPS like crazy but dies quickly.
Another choice for pvp is maybe the Warp Stalker.
if you use intimidate right before he warps you have a direct stun (in pve this helps taking quick agro)
but according to petopia they have -6% DPS so the DPS wont be as hight as a cat,ravager,...
but they are worth the try and they are so funny lol.
(official stats :
94% DPS
105% armor
100% health)
hope it helps,i go take 1 when i up,dont get those from the 'wood' part of terokkar,take those from auch.,and the others away from terokkar.
