Anit-melee Necromancer (improved) 

Anti-Melee Necromancer (RA)

This is a build I have been working on for quite some time now. As I don’t have a lot of time at home I can’t make this into a full blown guide, but I still wanted to put it out there. Just this weekend I have had 7 Glad runs and made over 80K factions. I will first list the skills/armor and stuff then I will explain the rest.

Skills
Spiteful Sprit (SS)[E] 15/2/10 (curses)
Insidious Parasite (IP) 15/1/12 (curses)
Parasitic Bond 5/1/2 (PB) (curses)
Frustration 10/1/15 (illusion)
Web of Disruption 10/¼/15 (no Attribute)
Signet of Lost Souls ¼/8 (soul reaping)
Distortion 5/0/5 (illusion)
Rez sig

Attributes
Curses – 16
Illusion – 10
Soul reaping – the rest (11 I think)

Armor
All Radient insignias preffered but you can change as you see fit
Supurior rune of Curses
Minor rune of soul reaping
3 runes of attunement

Weapons
4 weapon set preferred one -5 energy set, one normal staff, a +15/-1 energy set, and a +30/-2 set
I also use the reduction in casting time recharge inions but up to you

Usage
You might think why are you using frustration and web of disruption in an anti-melee build and I will get to that at the end. First lets go over how to use this against different set ups. First check out the opposing teams to see how many melee/ranged characters and what class. Then pick your targets Sins>warriors> paragons>rangers>dervishes (for some reason I find this not as effective on dervs due to their great self healing). Note always cover your hexxes with PB this prevents easy removal, Cast Signet of lost souls whenver you can on foes with <50% health

For assassins and warriors and paragons
Cast one after the other SS, IP, then PB. Watch if they jump right in and start attacking use signet of lost souls as soon as health below 50%. Watch if PB goes away (you get your self heal) recast imeadiatly

For rangers
Cast IP then PB, then cast SS on either another melee/ranged or a caster and cover. I find that rangers don’t attack fast enough to really give the full benefit of both hexes so I spread them out.

For dervishes
Cast SS then PB, I am finding IP doesn’t trigger for a lot of their attacks so either don’t cast it or cast it on another melee/ranged character

For non-monk casters
If there is hex removal cast the following spell chain SS, frustration, PB, then use web of disruption to interupt a good spelll and cast PB again (you might get a lucky second interupt). Maintain SS or move to another foe

For monks
SS, the PB frustration then wait for either a hex removal or main healing spell to cast web of disrution the cast PB again. Maintain SS, frustration anf PB covering

Defense:
Use distortion if you get jumped by an assasin and your monk isnt on his game. Beware distortion will drain your energy so don’t use it whenever you get a little pressure. If you monk is on his game then you can survive with just running. I also use distrotion when I am dazed or using my rez sig help avoid interupts

Discusion alternative skills
Now to answer the question I pose earlier about using frustration and web of disruption in an anti melee build. I have found the the SS + IP combo does enough damage on its own that price of failure/clumsiness and empathy are overkill and limit your usefulness. In RA you never know what you are going to come up against so having some anti-caster spells is particulary helpful. Frustration is also great if you have an interupter on you team as it increase the casting time of spell by 50% allowing easier interupting of monks.

I have played around with some other skills in the 2 anti-caster spots they include
Backfire+shame - Work extremly well against Blessed light monks as the shame get off in just enough time to interupt blessed light. Overall backfire and shame take to long to cast as a necro so they aren’t as effective over the whole match.

Clumsiness and empathy – worked very but limits your usefullness to strictly melee plus hard to get all those hexes out before they either kill themselves or stop attacking

Clumsiness + Illusion of weakness – nice self heal but IP, PB and your signet provide pretty decent healing + distortion can save you if neccesary against melee spikes. Again clumsiness is nice but not great.

Weaknesses
E-denial – if you come up against e-denial mesmers switch to you 15%/-5 energy weapon set. Switch to Higher energy sets while casting and then back to first set to help hide you energy (they can’t take you below 0)

Interupts – Dazed, migrane, frustration will own this build. If you see a mesmer try to get frustration and SS on him if you can’t avoid. For interupting rangers use distortion

Heavy Hex removal
– Nothing you can do except covering and spamming. ALWAYS cover you hexxes with PB. When it get removed you get healed and it requires them to have either a spell that remove multiple hexes or 2 removal spells.

I know this was long and wish I had time to add pictures and stuff but I don’t so here you go. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Fell free to expirement and use the build. It takes some practice to really learn how to play it effectively but when you learn it is a lot of fun to play.

Ok I've added some colors and underline to call out each section. Thats about all I can do here at work and I just don't have the time at home, as it is I only get to play a limited amount. If I had the time to do it up right I would have submited it as a guide.
