Acrobatics vs. Karma: Knockback Protection

I’ve got a Dark/Dark Scrapper currently up to 25. I love playing her so far, just really hate the lack of knockback protection. Should hit 26 tonight and was planning on picking Acrobatics to help with KB but as luck would have it, I got a Karma: knockback protection recipe as a drop. I haven’t really had a chance to put it to the test yet and was wondering, will that by itself provide me with enough KB protection that I can safely skip acrobatics?

RE: Acrobatics vs. Karma: Knockback Protection

Acrobatics is more than enough to prevent KB. It has a protection with a magnitude of 100.

The KB IOs give you mag-4 protection each. One will provide protection from most KB, two will stop KB from almost everything short of an AV and multiple stacking KBs, three might stop 99% of KB in the PvE game.

For the most comprehensive insurance, choose Allstate... I mean Acrobatics. But if you really want to save on a power, go the IO route.

Thanks for breaking it down like that. I’ll be playing around with it tonight and see how well the karma works by itself works. If needed I’ll try to get a second one later but hopefully one will be good enough for now.

I concur with Big. One will be enough for the duration of you're career. Only time you might want two, or to go Acrobatics would be for PvP purposes. In PvE, you should be just fine.

Corn,

My dark/dark just hit 50 in April and Acrobatics worked great for knockback. I never had a problem while it was up (but boy did it get my attention when I forgot to turn it on).

Good luck with the dark/dark...great build but can be hard to play until you're used to it.

Randy

RE: Acrobatics vs. Karma: Knockback Protection

Just wanted to add that I have Karma: KB Protection on my level 26 Blaster. The only thing that has knocked me back so far has been Cabal bosses. Tsoo Sorcerers & Ancient Spirits have been no problem, nor have Council grenades.

RE: Acrobatics vs. Karma: Knockback Protection

On my Fire/Fire tank, one Steadfast Protection-KB has protected me from just about all knockback/down. I'm considering adding in another or a Karma-KB, but haven't yet. I do sometimes get knocked about when going against some of the bigger enemies now. Nemesis bosses cause a little problem, but nothing major.

where would you put the Karma?

How does it get assigned to your toon? wouldn't you have to slot it on something, and what would that something be?

Apparently, I am in the Dark/Dark.

Karma is a defensive set so in a Dark/Dark Scrapper you would probably need to slot it into Cloak of Darkness, or into a power pool power like Weave, Stealth, or Hover. I believe if you slot it into a toggle, it will always be protecting you, but in a click, only for 120-seconds after the click.

As an alternative, you could choose the Steadfast Protection version, which is resistence-based. You could then slot that into any of your shields.

In either case, the IO is taking up a slot, but adding nothing to that particular power. So, if you would normally 3-slot a shield with resistence, you would need to 4-slot it and use one of the slots for the KB-protection.

Karma can also be slotted into Combat Jumping, which a lot of people take for the Immob Resistance anyway.

RE: Acrobatics vs. Karma: Knockback Protection

I think with release of i10 Acrobatics is needed not only for KB protection but also it has a +hold resist and since the rikti use a ton of mental holds with their bosses it helps to have it.

I put it in Combat Jumping so I really wouldn't have to waste slots elsewere. So far the difference is very noticable. Aside from some Cabal bosses, nothing has knocked me down since. So im happy.

RE: Acrobatics vs. Karma: Knockback Protection

A noob question here, since I haven't done much with IOs... it seems like Karma and Steadfast Protection only go up to level 30. If that's the case, why is that?

Certain sets only drop at certain level ranges. The higher-level sets many times offer better set bonuses. And, of course, the higher the level of the IO, the better % attribute enhancement is given.

In the case of an IO like Karma or Steadfast KB Protection, where there is no % attribute enhancement, only the KB protection, it really doesn't matter what level the enhancement is.

RE: Acrobatics vs. Karma: Knockback Protection

I haven't been able to play since May so be gentle. What is this karma thing you speak of? Is it one of the new invention enhancements?

Thanks,

Randy

Karma is a set of 3 crafted enhancements that can be slotted into any defense-based power. I believe the 3 are Def/End, Def/Rchg, and KB-Protection. You will get some global bonuses if you slot 2 or all 3 from the set into any one power. Or, you can simply choose the enhancement offering KB-Protection (which is what I do).
