How does anet want to know?

recently i saw how anet added a note to the log in screen reminding players that if you buy gold your account will get banned...

i'm not selling or buying :P

my question is: how do they want to know this? it's impossible to trace or to find out...i really don't understand how they can know if somebody buys gold? i mean, it's just a trade and nothing to do with programs...how does anet want to know?

Anet isn't dumb as some think, they know most of these trades happen in International Districts, hell, if i know it, what lets them of not knowing?

Its hard to trace yes, but.... anyone buying a ludicrous amount, and we're talking about over 500K or so, is easily picked up if they ever check a log of an account that has been in International standing suspiciously close to the Xunlai agent trader :P

Also ofcourse, the gold sellers suffer little, if their account is banned (usually some lvl 2 guy) they just buy a new one from the money the gold buyer gave em, smart bussiness ;)

(no, im clean, but i do know perhaps one or two people so to say, Mr & Mrs. Anonymous)

RE: How does anet want to know?

Large exchanges of cash etc I should imagine. It's certainly not an easy thing for them to lockdown on, but the shutout on ebay gold will help a bit.

Most trades in guildwars involve both players giving something to the other, but obviously these gold sellers just give their clients the gold in game in slots of 100k. So I guess anet could notice when such transactions are going ahead. Where 1 person gives gold to another for nothing in return. It wouldn't surprise me if they had some written into their servers to notice such things. But still...not easy to track down.

Perhaps they have or could implement some kind of code that triggers whenever theres a transaction above 90k and stores that info in a database, if that player has repeated transactions its likely they are a seller and a history of all players they traded with is kept in that database- just completely wild speculation though :)

Yes, but for those people that are like Husband and Wife, they exchange money, (dunno if it's true) how will that affect them then?

Like if one needs money, or they store money together, like what a lot of married couples do in real life.

yeah they can't ban innocent people...besides i'm pretty sure they wouldn't check everybody's account just to check if they have bought gold...that would take way too long.
i think they shud first focus on the elimination of bots before they get a code against gold traders

Totally agree.

They crowd up the severs and space.

I give my girl gold all the time but I don't give her 100k+ every few minutes or every day. These gold sellers are selling millions a hour if not more. Not to hard to track and You know that maybe one of those gold selling sites is Anet and when you come to pick up your gold they ban your account. :) that be very mean and sneaky but all well deserved.
