Whats your take on buying gold with real money?
Know anyone that has done it?
My take: I think its crap! Its not fair to the rest of us and its probably hurting the economy. Glad to see A-Net taking this seriously. I have several guildies that buy gold on eBay and bam, they have the new shiney armor.

Ah, gold buyers, I hate them, they need to die and then go into the deepest pits of hell.... ok, maybe that's taking it a little far, but you get the idea. Gold buying is the dumbest thing you can do. While I understand that it is hard to farm and then sell you stuff, anet has introduced an awesome new way to make gold, repeatedly vanquishing easy areas. All that is required to do this is hard mode and some brains.

an mmo is supposed to make you feel like your in a istant land, work for stuff, all that.
buying gold makes no sense of that at all, cheap way to get through a game and the bots that are used in it areut as bad. overfarming areas.
its a pretty scummy thing to do

I had a guild leader that did it... I left the guild as soon as i found out. I find it disgusting how ppl buy it when if they have the money to buy in game gold, they have the money to give to charity. Go farm for yourself if u want that nice armor (or get a friend to help out). It's not that hard especially with runs like bergens HM which is about 2k a run!

I disagree with buying gold. How can you say you accomplished something if you simply bought it with real money?
I had a friend who bought gold for WOW. Everyone who was playing with him started making fun of him for it and he ended up quiting.
Buying gold just takes the fun out of the game. If you do by gold be ready for your gaming to end either from getting banned or from getting bored when you just recieve everything you want.
p.s. Making money in Guild Wars is really not that hard so i don't see why someone would need to buy gold anyway.

buying gold on ebay funds terrorwebs! ok maybe not; but there have been links to some third world exploitation; worse than both of those it puts the anet servers under more pressure and may cause that lag you notice: (sometimes).
On the servers to have mountains of farming bots on them; the people who run the servers would not have factored in so many players who play 24 hours a day and repeatedly do the same thing over and over again.
So its got nothing to do with being jealous or the economy its to do with actual processing power memory and general computer nonsense. When people buy gold it encourages career players such players are not going to be fun community of gw types... they are likely to be people who will do what ever it takes to make lots of gold.
thing that this may include: umm they might want to steal peoples accounts; they might want to scam people out of gold; so they can sell that gold; they might buy something in gw and sell it on for a higher price.
In short there are links between ungamesmanship like playing and selling/buying gold it may not be all gold sellers and buyers but anet make the rules in the spirit of fair play.
nice topic

It makes you not applicate the rare and hard to find items.
Also when people ask you "Where did you get that cool sword?" ... they are expecting a story and a location on where you found it and not a simple "Oh, I bought it".... yeah.... the people who are asking are willing to go earn it them self rather than just buying it from someone.
And aside from the ridicule and bad effects on the economy, how are they keeping track of this and how are they going to catch it?
What if its just someone giving their friend a 1000 gold on a loan. How do they tell the difference between that type of transaction to someone who is selling/buying gold?

Firstly why are people spending their (or their parents) hard earned cash on imaginary items that only exist on a server somewhere? I just don't get that concept, you've got to have more money than sense to waste it on something that isn't real. Buying a game and playing the game is where the satisfaction comes from surely, buying ingame gold for real life cash isn't going to give you any sense of achievement
Buying gold has an affect on the economy, those bots you see running in and out of Altrumm all day are farming the same area over and over again, what that means is that any legit player entering those areas is going to get reduced drops because of it, same is true for any area that is over farmed.

i think this is a scummy idea too.......GW has a gold looping system which takes out, and adds an eaqual share of money to the game, to help the ecomomy of the game rise and fall stabily. Buying someones horded up cash, and suddenly spending it in the game would make the economy a rollercoaster. Why do you think that ectos are only 5kwhen they used to be 9k? just my 2 cents.....
We fear what we do not understand......Yet, when we do understand, we feel entitled to know more. Why are we so afraid one moment, and so curious and greedy the next?
