OMFG

Just as the name states, I am sick and tired of Noobs flaming eachotther and clogging up the chat with thier inconcessant babbling, and cursing. I think A-Net should more closley monitor this, and I am not gonna turn off my chat channels for my enjoyment, I should not have to do that. I think A-Net should give anyone who Flames some1 for no reason( because i know there is a reason for it sometimes) a temporary 24 hour ban...whadda yall think? or I am i just being overly judgemental?

the idea is nice, but how is Anet ever going to monitor everyone and see if there flaming :/ and especialy if they had a reason for it then they would have the look through the whole conversation. So i don't think its realy possible to do something like that.

I agree. I see flaming/bad-talking in almost every town. I hardly ever ask any questions anymore for the fear of being hounded by inmature people.

I'm sorry to say this but that's how the internet is and will be. The internet is full of idiots (although some are genuinely nice) and even the seemingly normal person can be quite vocal and 'brave' online.

Personally, I don't even notice the flaming in towns/outposts since I'm never in any one location for very long but what you are suggesting is practically impossible.

The amount of resources and manpower required to monitor the conversations of thousands of users at any given moment would be enormous and not feasible for any company. That is the entire reason why they have check boxes to enable/disable certain chat channels.

Now even if you were to report said offenders, the reply you would get from support would be to use the 'ignore user' feature or disable local chat.

While I do agree that some form of discipline and restraint is needed when having conversations online. There is no real way an online gaming company can do it effectively. So unless everyone plays nice on the internet, it would be best to ignore it or use that little mouse and un-check local chat.

Well, seeing as how Anet cannot be in every town/outpost every minute of every day, the best thing you can do is to report major infractions via Support.

I don't report every bad word I see and usually I chalk it up to immature kids when I see the typical goofball convos.

But there has been a couple of times that I was just completely shocked and appalled by what was being said in All chat, and I did take screens and report it. I also reported a few bots who were spamming "Buy gold 100k $8" just because they irritate me, for whatever good it did. If you do report, make sure you get the name of the character, the place with district and the time of the incident so they find what you are reporting easier.

Sadly I usually have All chat off. People are people, no changing that :-P

Ban is harsh imho.

why not just make a s.cript, every time a foul word display the s.cript overwrite with random rubbish word/sentense

The idear is from counter stike where same issue was a problem (long ago ^_^)

instead of the bad word the s.cript just spit out a random sentence like
: I like pizza with blueberrys.
then instead of gettin mad at the person u just laugh at him =)

It could be the sentence one hero make when drunk ect.

I only start flaming people with foreigners come into the US servers and are like 'Americans are the stupid'. I get PO'ed and tell them to learn english :)

And isn't there already a language filter option in the menu?

I checked and yes, there already is a language filter that puts up &%^$ when someone curses. First page on the options menu > Third one down Chat filter level > chose none, normal, or maximum

I have this thing called "Selective Chatting" (and offshoot of "Selective Hearing") and barely notice them in my own little reality, thus rejecting theirs.

Mad idea coming up here but um...why not just use the system which ANet already has in place?

If bad language offends you either turn on your chat filter or report it to ANet. If someone is doing something which you believe to be inappropriate for any reason then report it!

It's your community so instead of just sitting moaning about it type out a quick support ticket and do something about it!

Now granted I don't do this for every person I see swearing in chat but when they decide to whisper me and insult me that way as well (you know who you are!) I take a couple of screen shots and pass it on to ANet. If they feel that the rules have been broken they do something about it, if not they let it slide.

I'd take a guess that it's taken you longer to write out this post than it would to write a quick "This guy was swearing at me, screen shots included" ticket to ANet.

There's always 'ignore' It will block all their chats.... just hope that you don't run out of names to put in.

But then again, if you had a pen and paper and walked up and down the streets in your normal day to day routine and took the time to write down every idiot and moron you came across, by the end of the day you would have a list full of names - and that's just for one day.

... Gotta love George Carlin and his rants. ^^;

personally I think the stuff going on in towns is usually hilarious. Once while I was FFFing I noticed this. I showed up had about 200 kurzick faction. While trying to get a group together i noticed 2 sins talking about how great they were at FFFing. So naturally I invited both. They of course rejected my invatation as I was not in an FFF guild and therefor must have been a noob. Anyway on to the point 10K faction later they were still tahere talking s&*& back and forth. So instead of being productive and accompishing something over the hour they got absolutly no where. I see this a lot in RA too. Too each their own I guess.

As For the origional post. As said already there is not much A-net can do. I mean with millions of people in different distrcits of many towns playing on multiple servers worldwide they would need thousands of people continuously monitoring the chat chennels to enforce something of that magnitude. To me it seems like they could accomplish much more with that man power then just banning some stupid little kids (or immature adults). Not that it isn't a Good idea just not practicle.
