The life of a monk can't be bette, people adore you wherever you go. The start shouting 'Come with us!!' 'Join Us!!'.
Is there any other profession in this game which is so adored as the monk?
But there is a downside, if the party screws up, THEN BLAME THE MONK. Who knows what we did wrong, no one??? then the healer screwed it up!! Lets Flame his ***!!!!!
Well thats like my every days life of me, when I play on my monk then...
(plz dont mind spelling :P, and the flaming is not pointed to some1 just an example)

Well, us rits are kinda wanted. But the sad thing is everybody thinks we can't heal :/ In most cases we heal better than monks, but monks are way better in prot than us.
Example case:
I join a group of 6 with a monk.
I say I heal and ping build.
Everybody ignores it and looks for monk.
I rage from the group x__x
Its annoying sometimes...

Try being a Water Elemantist in PvE.
Water Spells don't JUST snare people, we can deal damage too:
-Vapor Blade
-Ice Spikes
-Maelstorm
-Shatterstone
And about the Ritualist and Monk thing, that's both true. Although I haven't gotten it alot with my Monk, the Ritualist of my friend has had the very same problem.

Water eles are just higly inferior to Fire eles, atleast evereybody thinks so. I think water ele would have potential, and it would be nice to see some difference. Next time I'm playing with my rit, I'll try a water nuker ;)

i love it when they blame the monk, whenever they blame me i don't argue back. i say "Fine you'll do better without me" and leave :) i love being a monk as the party nearly always has to do what we say hehe.

There, in the desert, some missions that require team work.
I have done better on my own than with some teams.
Worst thing that I find happening is when two people in the team try to lead it.
As soon as they disagree about a way of doing something (and I know full well that it can be done either way) the team falters and fails.
Its hard to accept blame and when a group wont follow each other or call targets then split up on some fools errand.
Take comfort that they in real life have been sat at that mission all day.
they will be aggravated and sore unable to accept that they are doomed while they cannot let go of control and fight with people not against them.
I've played 3 monks to the inevitable conclusion one finished tyria and half of cantha but it was all so I could better understand monks.
Valuable some say indispensable most times I find that the ones in the group that arent shouting; understand what its like to be shouted at.

Since "everyone knows" fire is better, they expect what they feel is right. Doesn't matter if your particular build works fine, they think it's inferior because it isn't what they think.
Try getting into a DoA, Deep, or Warren group without the expected Wiki build. Not saying it won't work, but it isn't what people expect. The old cliche "more than one way to skin a cat" comes to mind, but most people don't want to try anything for themselves or develop their own build.
I've been called a noob many times because I use Jagged Bones on my hero MM, not flesh golem. Hey recycle those minions instead of getting new ;).
As far as monking, and yes I have a monk that is one mission away from being "Protector" on all three continents (haven't done, OR attempted Eternal Grove yet.) Remember, if the mission fails
\"IT'S ALWAYS THE MONK'S FAULT!\"
Like many here I spend about 50% of my time in either hero/henchie groups or guild/alliance groups, but I do enjoy meeting, and playing with, new people. So take the good with the bad.
Also if the guild has everything needed for a mission and still has an open slot, we will invite a random person and this has led to many new members. This policy is IMO the BEST recruiting tool around, it's managed to keep our main guild (we have 5) up over 80 members and we never spam the towns to recruit.

I just took my Monk out of the drawer lately to finish nf so i could farm in DoA and i fell in love with them. I just loves the way we sit back while the others do the job. BUT theres always smartasses like for example someone that go Leeroy thinking "the monk will keep me alive" and get is beautiful little butt handed to him by monsters. So now i advertise this before the second i enter a group : "If any of you want to be a smartass ill leave you to rot, plus I wont res you back". I know its harsh but it works with any kind of boogy-gigly.
I want to add that monks are overpowered, not cause of their 1337zorz spells, because everyone rely on them, even farming is overrun by monks, that was why i shelved my monk in the first place.
peace

About the water magic issue, I know your pain.
Water magic is my favorite magic (as it can be pure evil when used right) and my ele completed Prophecies and most of Factions and Nightfall using nothing but water.
Most of the time, I just don't tell people that I'm using water unless they really ask.
Most of the time, people are amazed how efficient water can be.
In tanakai temple, I brought Ward Against Harm as an elite, and people were more then happy with the extra 53 armor against those Temple Guardians.
I was once in a party that added a dervish, I told them I used water and his reaction was:
"OMG, WATER DOES NO EXTRA DAMAGE, YOU n00b!" and left...
Extra damage? huh? Never been hit by Vapor Blade? Just one of those people not smart enough to understand that everything can be great when used right.
Now on topic: When I get flamed while monking by a suicidal wammo, my answer is 'I'm a monk, not a miracleworker and certainly not a shrink who knows how to prevent suicide...'

My personal favorite is when a monk in a team thinks that they are the sole bond between life and death (of course they usually are if your doing HM in the ascalon area, but thats not the point!)
For example, on one of the southern shiverpeaks missions, i was monkingand the other monk had this "you cant win without me" attitude.
I told the monk (who was doing some crappy form of bonding) that he could go ahead and stop helping, and that the team was good enough to make it with just monk.
So this guy takes off all his enchantments and says something like "ok without my help the entire team will die and ill be waiting and ill res the whole team"
I dont think anyone died on that mission...
But yah, i think other people rely on monks WAY too much
most people like this have been on a team with a monk that could spike heal them and do great stuff, so that the next time they go into a heard mission, they decide not to take healing spells and run into huge mobs and just hope the monk can handle it
And when they die, they blame the monk

i dont play much with my monk, dont know why but i just dont like not dealing dmg(think thats why ele is my favorite)
but i do know the feeling about getting flamed because some1 who thinks he knows everything(a.k.a. noob) runs into everything and dies and starts shouting at you >.<
and about the ele thing: i just have a pve build for every element :P
and finally 1 thing to say: ppl need to learn other proffessions before flaming them
got kicked by some1 because i didnt had arcane echo with me as ele >.<

Oh castitatis lilium

This is what I use (Both in PvE and PvP but in PvP is get another attack or defence skill):
Water Magic 16
Energy Storage 13
Shot at 2007-07-30
1.Vapor Blade
2.Ice Spikes
3.Frozen Burst
4.Glyph of Lesser Energy (was so happy when they changed that into 2 spells)
5.Maelstorm
6.Water Attunement
7.Master of Magic (use this when low on energy due to the long recharge of both 2&3&5&6 you can spam Vapor Blade easier)
8.Ressurection Skill

Hmm, I agree, being a monk is great, but the flames, aren't really as much fun. A few months back, I was in a Guild, and remembering that I'm a TOTAL 100% PvE player, the Guild I was in wanted to try PvP, so I was alright, I'll try to monk. Our first battle, we utterly got demolished, everything was blamed on me, and the other monk. So, I just said, if you don't want me to monk, you try. We do it again, this time on my ranger, no difference, utterly demolished.
I think I'll stick to my PvE :)[/B]

Seeing as how I use both a monk and a water ele I figured I'd respond on this topic.Monking is always tough with groups of other players for one true reason. Players put a build together that has no defensive abilities whatsoever. Lots of players don't see the monk as a support character but as their only lifeline to staying alive. These players will always die and flame the monk in the group. As a monk ask for everyone else to ping their build and tell them to add or change a skill if you feel it's necessary. If someone doesn't want to then leave or kick them. Monks can always find another group in almost every area of the game. I think water eles are extremely under appreciated in the game. They do reasonable dmg to enemies and snare melee class foes which helps reduce dmg towards your teammates and allows AoE dmg to work better. Water eles can even tank quite well if using armor bonuses and mist form.
