Pistols / Dual Wield No Love? 

I was just wondering, why most builds with Thug/DM there is no Pistols / Duel wield in the build??

I personaly LOVE to use the pistols/duel wield. I think it adds to dps and also helps in the lower levels to level faster.

Also, I like DM for the Heal,servant, and couple other things but I rarely use tar patch, darkest night at all.. I find the casting speeds are way slow and they are just useless to me.. maybe I'm not right or maybe it is just my play style I was just wondering if anyone else felt this way.

First, Unwelcome to Gameamp Hellborn! Glad you stopped by.

First, the reason you don't see a lot of Toons use Pistols/Duel is because of the End it takes to run the MM toggles, buffs/debuffs, casting, etc...and also, you don't want the aggro centered on you, but your henchmen, so the concept is let the henchmen take the aggro and you support them with heals, buffs, debuffs. Some take them, some don't, it's simply a matter of opinion and playstyle.

Now, with DM, you say you don't use tar patch, darkest night.....OH MY! What have you been doing all this time then???
Tar Patch: -res (lowers their defenses) = weakens anyone in it's effect, which means your henchmen can kill quicker than normal and at the same time, slows everyone's run speed, which means they stay in a concentrated area longer, which gives your henchmen time to take them down quickly.

Darkest Night: -acc, -dam on all nearby mobs of the effected target you choose = less likely to get hit, and less likely to get hard by all surrounding attacking mobs. What this does is, bascially, lower your enemies damage output, lower their accuracy/ability to hit and couple this with tar patch, run through missions very quickly.

The cast times may appear slow, but if done correctly and efficiently, you can actually cut down on time spent in missions, which equates to more xp/hr.

If you can, respec your toon to add these items in.

Send in your henchmen to draw aggro, hit the Boss or highest level with darkest night, then drop tar patch...then the mayhem begins...

or you can drop tar patch on the unsuspecting mob, then send in your henchmen, then darkest night the Boss/highest level...

or you can darkest night the Boss/highest level, send in henchmen and drop tar patch....

either combo works well. I've used them all, just depends on the mob and the damage they can deal depends on which one is best for the situation.

Just remember, whoever you use as the anchor for darkest night, make that the last person you defeat, as darkest night goes bye bye when that person is defeated.

I can see getting darkest night and tar patch later on when you're fighting high level bosses... but for now im only lvl 12 and as far as I can tell... im mowing down orange and reds easily.. by the time my henchmen run in start blasting they are mostly all dead before i can even get to position the patch and click through all the mobs to get darkest off lol..

Nice build though. I'd really think about taking more of the DM set to assist in your mayhem. Things are a little easier at the earlier levels, by nature, but by the time the later levels come in, you're in the position of making some difficult choices...what to get when and what can i get by with until that next level up.

But, whatever works for you, go for it! But i'd consider more support for your henchmen though. Oh, with the Thug set, your mid level thugs provide their own leadership for the team...so, getting the added leadership is up in the air as well.

Especially for thugs in my opinion it is important to use Tar Patch as match as possible. Except for the bruiser thugs are ranged and by slowing and weakening the enenmy by the time they run all the way to kick you they are already dead. If you ever wanted a build here is a quick one I put up.

I just dont like getting tar patch and darkest night so early... the game becomes boring... just sitting there watching ur thug shoot...............shoot...............shoot.........

its boring...

when I get pistols and duel wield I can take down the mobs fast and easy.. my hits do around the same damage as one of my thugs... its alot faster..

I know that ZOMG Thugs are ranged and you need a slow the mobs to keep them from hitting you and keep them from running away but unno what.. if any mobs come close I just use my twilight grasp and heal my thugs.. I haven't found it to be a problem at all... I also know that those powers are very usefull in teams.. but I haven't had anyone complain.

My point is that I find it very slow leveling without the extra Dps of my pistols...

But I do see the point of all of you... and now that I have my Enforcer I rarely use my pistols... and probably could now use those spells... but again, my Thugs mow down the enimies so quickly that I still think I would have little use for the powers.

For example: I send in my Thugs.. they start blasing at a group of I dunno 5-8 mobs... most are minions maybe 2 Lt.'s.
by the time I cast the Darkest Night the minions are dead.. then after the spell is over with it takes 5 min before you can recast it LOL... I know you can add recharges but its still really slow... I like to GO GO GO!! lol I just mow down whatever I see.. I dont bother with those spells..


Maybe I will factor them in later on For teaming later on... but till I really find a use for them I'm sticking with my pistols.. PEW PEW PEW!!! LOL

Well, I've hit lvl 15 and guess what... I want the Dark now LOL cuz I'm not using the pistols that much anymore... but hey, I got to 15 alot faster and my thugs and enforcers are fully slotted so I guess I'll work on my Dark side now heh.

Hey, that's what this game is all about...trying different things and finding what works for you..

However, I still have the Empty Clips on my Thug/Dark :) I just like the sound and animation of it..lol.

I usually keep DW and pistols and Empty clips untill i get my second Enforcer then of course i respec out of all my atks. In my Opinion you are correct it does up your DPS and helps to lvl faster. but once i get my second Enforcer (at 24? i think) the atks are not needed so i respec into a more supportive build. but of course having the Vet reward to do so helps.

Dark is a nice set been playing around with it recently and i am really starting to like it alot.
