been to FoW a few times, and always die on the quest to the forge becasue the npc dies before we get there, or a patrol comes round and kills him.
any tips in general?

Well, if you read a couple solo farming FoW guides, you kind easily find out how to do it in the beggining... other wise... bring Bond and prot spirit And then use them on him? O_o..
I always use Mo/D though for healing, I enjoy mystical healing. +3 for each enchantment wewt... 3 enchants=9 pip bars.
Anyways, wars should bring some kind of defense for vs. ele and physical... but mesmers in FoW.... meh.Just make a ranger and solo FoW forest thingy

Never really had a problem with the FoW NPCs.
If you're running past the first group, be sure to move forward so the shadows you do aggro won't then aggro rastigan and kill him, easy mistake to make ;)

Just kill all the patrols before taking the quest to forge.... FoW is not difficult once you get the hang of it, no matter what type of group you are in. Just advance slowly, take the time to regen and pull the patrol away from their normal path to kill them.

the way to do it is to not take his quest. clear all the monsters from left to right then he will come up and open the gate into the center of the lava walled think(best i can describe it) after you kill the stuff that spawns just take his quest then accept the reward.

sorry,im pretty unclear^^
i got past rastigan^^
put as i move on towards the great forge, but as i get to the area of 3 npcs outside the forge area a group kills him, first time our group forgot about him, secound time heut died form a patrol
