RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

My favorite is the Factions Chapter because of the many things that it included.

I don't know why a lot of people dislike it though.

But I like Factions because I just think that it had some really great features in it.

- Ab
- Factions
- Missions and how they are timed, not task based
- Rits and Sins
- Great different scenery, the island of Shing Jea, Ruins of KC, Jade Sea on the Luxons Side, and the Jade Forest on the Kurzuck Side

To me, I just find Factions better to play with.

Also - To me, it seems like Factions has more events and holiday stuff than any other Chapter.

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

Well If I had to recommend only 1, it'd have to be Prophecies. It was the first campaign and, in my opinion, had a better story than the other 2 campaigns. Also, the level to 20 was a challenge as opposed to Factions. However, population-wise, Prophecies is a little empty in certain areas (to the best of my knowledge). This may be a deciding reason to buy Nightfall first, because as of now it has the most people playing it (and you also get heroes).
So, In my opinion Prophecies is the best campaign, but if you want to make progress, go with Nightfall.

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

Personally I think that it's best to start with Nightfall because of the heroes. I can't express how useful they've become.

I remember seeing the pros and cons of all the campaigns on a wiki before, but I can't remember where. If I ever do find it again I'll post the link here.

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

It's all relative. Personally I think prophecies is the most fun and the best way to get into the game. Factions is necessary for pvp(so many useful skills). Then nightfall is where everyone is making money now.

I think your buddies should buy prophecies first if they like that then buy factions for the pvp. Then if they feel like it buy nightfall(as I see that as the least fun of the three).

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

I personally like Factions the most, even though lots of people said they don't like it.

Here's that Pros and Cons list of each campaign you were talking about kcinshin. ^^

QUOTE (GuildWiki)

The advantages and disadvantages of the campaigns in short:

Prophecies
+ Cheap skills (free but through questing)
+ A good campaign to begin with (keeps the slightly more complicated professions of other chapters "new")
+ A good chapter for learning the game; you don't reach level 20 until much later, and the henchmen's abilities and party size increase slowly with you so it gives you the time to learn how to play with different tactics.

+/- Skills become available more slowly; you learn them as the quests and skill trainers provide them. This encourages you to formulate your own style rather than copying another person's endgame build, which can be a plus or minus depending on what kind of player you are.

- When already familiar with the game, the lower experience rewards can be annoying to less patient players who want to level up quickly.
- Elite skills are not available until much later in the game.
- The attribute quests require you to play a long way through the game, going on some long journeys in vast areas, while in the other two campaigns these quests are on the starter island.

Factions
+ Gives access to the Assassin and Ritualist professions.
+ Rewards from questing allow you to buy skills and level up quickly.
+ Earlier access to other chapters.

- Buying skills can become quite expensive. If you make too many mistakes with gold, you could find yourself stuck without combinations of skills that would allow you to play through the game at a fun pace.
- Due to reaching level 20 early in the game, you could sometimes get in over your head as a beginner, since people expect a high level player to act as such. (At least to the hardcore players who will refer to you as "noob". Don't be bothered by this, the game is meant for fun.)

Nightfall
+ Gives access to the Dervish and Paragon professions.
+ Gives early access to heroes.
+ Many elite skills are easily obtainable at an early stage of the game. (Factions also provides elite skills quite early, but most of them come much later)
+ Gives access to inscribable weapons.
+/- This campaign is a mix between Prophecies and Factions in terms of gaining experience; faster than Prophecies, slower than Factions. The time it takes before access to other chapters is available is also about in the middle.

- Buying skills can become very expensive, and the quest rewards aren't that big so you'll have to keep an eye on your gold pile.
Combining the Chapters
If you have all the chapters, one strategy that works well is to play a Prophecies character first, and choose a profession Monk, Warrior, Necromancer, Ranger, or Elementalist (maybe not Mesmer at first : Mesmers are specialized in countering other professions skills, so knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the other professions so playing them is especially important before trying mesmerism), since you will be unlocking skills usable by your initial heroes as well as your main character (another reason not to use a mesmer as the first character, as Norgu, the only Mesmer hero, is rarely used at all). When you get to Lion's Arch, you can unlock 5 heroes in Elona (i.e., Nightfall: 2 Monks, a Dervish, a Warrior and either a Ranger or an Elementalist), 1 in Tyria (i.e., Prophecies: a Necromancer) and 1 in Cantha (i.e., Factions: an Assassin). Continue playing the Prophecies campaign, or take a bit of time in Cantha to grab some maximum armor and earn some fast experience for you and your heroes around Kaineng City.

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

i like factions the most, the most missions/quests are easy to do. but some are REALLY hard, mostly when i find a mission/quest too hard i just quit for 2 days, doing some other things, and then getting on the mission again. and then finally finishing the mission, it just gives such a great feeling ;)

and i dislike the bonus objectives of prophecies and nf, i like the reward system of factions better. when i first had 2 defeat Shiro Tagachi with my ele, i really liked the fight, first i thought: what only him? :|
but progressing through it i liked the heavy battle ^^ (we got a time of 42 seconds :D)

However i like Prophecies 2, since this was my first gw campaign, i like factions more as u may have noticed :P

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

personally my fav is definatly prophecies.
i cant really supply a reason but i seem to find myself playing proph much more.

then factions being my second favourite because of
that co op mission where there are two sets of allies
roxs <3

and then obviously nf, the only mission i like in nf is killing varesh, the best thing about nf is the heros and a few of the skills n dervish roxs aswell.

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

i much prefer prophecies, since it has a slow learning curve and allows new players to get into the game easier

In factions, they through you into a level 20 area a day or 2 after you start it, and new players will be overwhelmed

however, as someone already said, Prophecies is underpopulated, as most people have already done it and dont need to do it again
but still, IMO, prohecies is the best, and the easiest to start with

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

oh yeh thats another reason why i love prophecies.

you level as you progress through the game, where as
factions trains you to about 14/15 throws you in with level 20s

and nightfall trains you on the small island untill your level 20 and then you go through the whole story being level 20 so not much changes if you got a good build.

so yeh like i said proph FTW.

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

I would definitely buy Prophecies first, it is (in my opinion) the best campaign yet, and that will only expand with GW:EN.

To go in order of which to consider, my list would be:

1. Prophecies
2. Nightfall
3. Factions

Then again, that's just me, bear in mind that I'm not a big PvP fan.

You mean Factions trains you to 14/15? Not trying to be picky, just trying to clear confusion. You're completely right, by the way, and that annoyed me to no limit.

I can't choose. Factions gave me the sin and Allaince battles, Nightfall is deffinately the best storyline out of all of them not to mention heros and I just can't stay out of tyria.

Sums it up for me :D
I just consider GW 1 storyline looking at NF's twists, I don't really think about them as different campaigns.

Then u could buy Factions or EotN (yes i own NF but i don't like it that much)

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

prophecies has the slowest learning curve, but i'm afraid it can turn out to be dull after a while to some people. I started all my characters in factions or nightfall, and I'm glad I played proph with a high lvl character. I tried to start some characters in prophecies, but I gave up on all of them (also because I didn't want to play all those campaigns again and again) I don't want to wait for the good skills and attribute points until i'm more than halfway through the game :p

Quoting because I agree with all the points mentioned.

It really depends on what type of gameplay and how they play that determines which campaign they prefer.

I'm primarily a PvE player so Prophecies is a good place to start. However, if your friends enjoy (or would like to get into) both PvE AND PvP (story and some competitive aspects) - I highly recommend Factions because AB is what got me into PvP.

Nightfall was okay but it didn't get me into the story unlike Prophecies or Factions (if that makes sense?). Only good thing about it is new skills, new armor and Heroes - but then again, GW:EN also offers Heroes and is released at the end of the month so... maybe get Prophecies and/or Factions with GW:EN.

I don't consider myself a "hardcore" (can I use this word?) (if not, let's use "elite") PvP or PvE player but these 2 campaigns (Prophecies and Factions) are what made my GW experience very enjoyable.

Again, it depends on your friends' gameplay preferences but above are my opinions and experience on this topic.

RE: Which Guild Wars Campaign is Best?

Nightfall, heroes are very important. The game keeps getting larger which leaves fewer and fewer players per outpost, particularly now that GW:EN is coming out.

Nightfall is probably the most difficult of the campaigns though unless you start as a Dervish or Paragon, so to a new player, they could easily be overwhelmed. Still, for the long term I think its the way to go followed closely by Prophecies as it has the best single player story.

Factions brings in a lot of additions for the hardcore gamer, and ramps up the challenge level far too quickly for a beginner I think.

ok well let me put into to you this way tell them to start in prophocies campagin to get the CORE skills and to get to know how the game works and what not then after they beat the first one then tell them to go buy NF so they can get heros and have some fun in the game.then tell them to go but factiosn for the fast leveling quest and what not so they dont have to do all the boring stuff over again. But that is only my oppoioni think if youbuy any outher one your not gonna be able to do awhole with build and what not,
