An epic decision

I know that this question is entirely subject to location, time of day, etc., but I just thought it'd be interesting to see everyone's opinions, because this has been a great debate in my head for a while. Also, forgive me if this has been brought up before, but I'm not going to browse many forums just to find this topic (or not find it). Anyway, the question is:

Which is more profitable, running or farming?

This question applies to all campaigns at any time of day, any other situational change you can think of.

Personally, I believe that it is running. Farming doesn't bring in that much money, like HM farming Kryta, my monk would do 10-20 minutes of work for 1-2k. Running infusion for 500g, a party of seven would pay 3.5k for 5 minutes of running and a few more of fighting. That can raised up to 1k per person if you're in need of money. Farming is also getting nerfed like mad, but running stays pretty much constant.

Of course, you can farm greens/golds, or do Tombs, UW, or FoW, but there's no guarantee of getting anything worthwhile during a run of them. Then again, there's no guarantee that you won't get scammed while running. There are easy measures to prevent that, though.

That's just my opinion, hoping to fuel a debate, thanks for your opinions in advance.

Does chest running count as running? If so then running is more profitable. If not then regular farming. Sure regular farming is luck based but it is usually quick repeatable and profitable. If you spend all day farming your favorite spots(assuming you have more than one) you can probably make 200 or 33k the most ive heard anyone make in a day from running is like 70k.

RE: An epic decision

It seems to me that the prices of runs are more stable than the prices of commonly farmed items. Greens and gold weapon skin prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand, whereas the costs of runs seem to stay more constant. As long as players are in a rush to get somewhere there will be people willing to pay for runs. And there's no sell time included- at the end of the run you are paid in cash. Fewer farms are for straight money and merchant food anymore due to the loot code.

However, take it was a grain of salt, because I've never run anyone for money. I've always ran friends and random people for free, so I make my money farming. Some days I make a killing, some days I get absolute junk and give up :-P

RE: An epic decision

i guess farming, though i've never runned somebody before. Yes you aren't sure that you will get awesome drops, but you aren't sure either at running that you will get scammed, or that people don't need a run. I just stick to farming, and let the runners run me. I once got 3 golds in a row on troll farming, 2 golds from the trolls, 1 shiverpeak key, used the key, and another gold popped up :D

RE: An epic decision

Well... droks running is more profitable in some situations than farming though I can compare since ive done both:

Droks Running:
+ Easy 14k (or so, haven't runned for a while)
+ Usually fast

- Bad spawn can end your run
- You need to gather a group
- Always someone is trying to scam
- More boring than farming after a while
- I isnt realiable since if theres no-one to run, you wont make money

Farming:
+ Easy Money in right spot
+ You can always farm (except if you do uw, but thats not recommended)
+ Much more fun than running

- Drops can be bad
- Can't think more :/

Feel free to quote and mod the + and the - ;)

Well... for starters most team farming stuff isnt that profitable than solo (maybe DoA but haven't done that). Tombs doesn't reward that much than it did before. Oh yea, when I ran to droks frequently, I took 5-7 shiverpeak keys since there's always some chests. Easy Treasure Hunter title while making money.

RE: An epic decision

Depends really.

I suppose running is better than farming. Iv always said this when I used to run Elona Reach. When NF was released, that became dead and I was back to farming >.0

Depends if there are peolpe to run now adays though. You could spend say 10-20 mins gaining a party to run but in that time you could make like 5k from farming (Depending on drops). But meh Id suggest gaining a bit of money , then Chest Running. Nice stable price for lockpicks and keys. You easily make your gold back if you get a good drop.

RE: An epic decision

i think they are both good now :P

Running=alot of money per person, but takes a long time
Farming=Fast, but makes less money.

Both depend on something

Running=Depends on how fast you get a party, so you can repeat the run faster and make faster money.

Farming=Depends on the drops.
So they are kind of even, no wonder there are farmers and runners, because if in example farming was better, there wouldn't be any runners, all would go farming. (and vice versa ofcourse ;] )

RE: An epic decision

Is running 3 people from LA to ascalon (yes 3 people because when we reach ascalon outposts they only handle 4 max ppl) back on subject: La to ascalon, 3 ppl 2.2k each a good deal for people, i don't wanna "scam" people and at the same time i want to make a good profit. Good fee or not? It is 6600g total, that is if u don't get one person that whines if u wait around for 3 minutes looking for more runners and demands that you run only him.

Well I kinda think that Running is more fun than Farming. Well discluding Farming a show of force solo but otherwise its just more fun for me. Also I like money right away and not having to go out, farm, maybe get something good, take an hour to sell it. Instead just go and get quick money.

RE: An epic decision

pends what your doing with the items you farm.

e.g u farm a whole load of perfect gold non rare skin weapons. you can either try to sell them to players and take like an hour to do that or sell to a merchant and then go straight out to farm again.

running pends on where you are and how good you are.

e.g beacons peerch.
with 5 trailers and no scammers.u can get around 15k a run and thats about 30-60 mins a run pendin on spawns lag and skill of runner.

but its a very crouded area so getting 5 trailers can take almost 30 mins so its a very long time.

other runs are mission runs and toa run.

i usually do easy runs for free. and slightly longer or more difficult runs for a bit more.

oh heres a few good things to do.

1 HM ele farmer in ascalon. bout 1-4k in 10 mins. pends on drops.

2 4 man HM junundu farmin alkali pan can rack in like 5-10 golds. nad lotsa gold

do most propchecies runs but not all.

You could actually run 5 people, since when you reach the Ascalon Outposts they'll just be kicked from your group. But if you stop off along the way that doesn't work. ^_^

RE: An epic decision

runninhg is good but with running you have to form parties hat may take many minutes,

seen sme guys spam for 20 min, then theres scammig issues and also
you cant really go running whenever you want,
you need customers unlike farming when its your time

but considering you can sell a gold itme for aroud 1k unid, the money you get from farming.

so if it was 1 hour of farming and 1 hour of running WITh looking for a part i'd say they'd even out a bit maybe

I'd say running. My bro runs Ruins of Morah for 2k-3k a person in about 10 mins. (Including getting a group) He makes roughly 60k an hour.

Running. Takes significantly more luck than any farming run I know of, and nets a steady and generally more favorable income.

However, one could argue that because of the random nature of farming drops, there is a good chance of gaining an item in Hard Mode that can be sold for a profit that exceeds that of most standard runs.

It's all really shaky if you ask me. Running gets a steady cash flow, farming is a wild card.

RE: An epic decision

While mentioned at the start, the one point everyone seemed to miss was time of day.

I agree running is more profitable when people are on. However since I sometimes play early morning (like 4 am, I don't sleep much) EST, at that time usually farming is more profitable.

Since I do both, I switch up which I do based upon the time of day and my mood. At times I just don't feel like running because I don't feel like dealing with the idiots or spending the time getting a group together.

RE: An epic decision

HM farming is more profitable because you can solo that any time you want. Running/Ferrying takes time and patience and you have people that will still rip you off.

Hard Mode farming is my vote.
