RE: Spines Question

I don't recommend doing it. I have one, don't like it. Actually my very first toon 2 1/2 years ago. Invuln really does not work very well on the scrapper, in my opinion anyway.

Avant Guard = Emp/Rad/Psychic Defender Lvl 50 (Dedicated Healer)
Astral Plane = Peacebringer Lvl 50
Spica = Fire/Em/Energy Tank Lvl 50 (Scranker)
Avant Spines = Spines/Regen Scrapper Lvl 50 (AOE King)
Beliskner = Eng/Eng Blaster Lvl 42 (Blapper)

Avant Psy = Psychic Blast/Empathy Defender Lvl 20 (Offender)
Avant Def = Kinetics/Energy Blast Defender Lvl 16
Avant Stone = Stone/Storm Controller lvl 15 (Super Controller)
Umbral Plane = Warshade Lvl 14
Triumph
Lord Yu = MA/Regen Scrapper Lvl 24
Protector
Electrostun = Electric/EM Blaster Lvl 21 (Sapper)
T-99 = Ice/Ice Tanker Lvl 20
Starwolf = Katana/Inv Scrapper Lvl 18 (my very first toon, 3 1/2 years ago)

RE: Spines Question

Ahh, the old farming build. Spines/Invul is still quite the viable set, dispite the hit Invul took awhile back.

Spines, you want to take Lunge, Spine Burst, Build Up, Impale, Quills, Ripper, and Throw Spines.

Invul, you'll want Temp invul, Dull pain, Unyielding, Invincibility, and Unstoppable. Of the 3 passives, Resist Phy Damage will help cap your smash/lethal res, and Tough Hide helps make up for the -def in Uny. So I would recommend those 2 as well.

Fitness you want, and travel is always a suite to taste, but Super Speed is always my fav, with Hasten.

This is just something off the top of my head to give you a starting place. You will hear how Invul is weak and not worth it, but especially with IOs, Invul can be quite the powerhouse. With it's layered abilities, you can utilize several different IO types, to benefit from all the great bonuses available.

RE: Spines Question

This is my current Spines/invul build. I love this scrapper, he mow down mobs like no one else, and when he's in a crowd his accuracy is thru the roof, since its very easy to see Quills hitting with each pulse.

Edit: a note to add would be that you need to be wary of "taunting" enemies away from the tank. Invinc+Quills is a great combo for herding solo, but on a team, you might need to befriend and Ice tank, or at least an AoE heavy one so they'll keep you from getting in over your head. I re-realized this the other day when I was pulling aggro off the tank I was teamed with.

RE: Spines Question

Yeah Titan, that was me! Putz!

Seriously, he rocks with his spine/inv, to the point that I'm almost jealous of him. Have to see how my spine/regen does compared to his spiner...

Build Looks good to me but Unstoppable only needs one Resist Damage because combined with your other shields it puts you at the Damage Resist Cap.

It's a matter of taste for me but for Aid Self, I would put Two Interupt Redux and One Recharge and Three Heals

Maybe you could take out Conserve Power and Focused Accuracy for Boxing and Tough.

Not Much But that is a fantastic build

RE: Spines Question

Also take out those two ToHit slots in Invincibility. Invincibility only gives a few percent of +ToHit and that is (in my opinion) not worth two slots.

Then again, I've never had a /Invulnerability Scrapper, so who knows?

RE: Spines Question

The max percent bonus had about a 7% difference between unslotted and slotted with to hit buffs. unslotted and surrounded by 10 enenemies, gives a to percent of about 15%. with 2 to hits, and same scenario with 10 enemies near, you get a 22% bonus. With 1 its 18%, and with 3 its 23%.

Also one minor tweak to my build, I have 1 recharge and 1 end redux on my aid self, since I noticed that using it repeatedly drained my endurance more than I cared for.

Other than Psi and Rogue Vanguard bosses, I rarely have any kind of issues with my dmg taking. And since the bonus makes my Quills so accurate, when I decide to have fun and herd a group or 2 together, the slows from Quills decreases their attack rate, that with the +defense bonus and Invul's amount of resistance, I take a surprisingly small amount of dmg doing it.

RE: Spines Question

Great, now you got my thinking about rolling another spines scrapper, just so I can give Invul a whirl and see how it compares to my lvl 50 spines/dark. :p

RE: Spines Question

Spines/Dark seems awesome in the AoE route, but it seems like Endurance would be a real issue. Spines/Invuln seems like it would be great for the herding aspect, but would lack some survivability.

I might try it once I get Scotch Bonnet Girl up to 50 and get Mr Honduras up to a respectable level. :)

RE: Spines Question

Death Shroud and Cloak of Fear are really the only extra toggles that suck that end down, and I am not a fan of CoF. The whole myth of spines/dark's huge end drain has always been funny to me. The only time I've had issues with end, is when I'm down to that last boss who has a high lethal resistance, since spines doesn't have the big hitting attacks like Broadsword does, and that's mainly due to using my vet Sands of Mu at a ST attack. It's a very rewarding combo, if you have the patience, which alot of folks don't these days.
