If you can kill the occasional boss, you have a chance to get a Elite Tome, so yea, kill it if possible. The monks will attack you as soon as you kill other foe in their party.
Example:
Their party has 2 mesmers and 2 monks. If you manage to kill one mesmer, the monks should attack. It might take a while though.
I hope it helped :)

i thought bosses were always there but they just spawn randomly. Yeah the warrior is the easiest to kill, the ranger is the hardest because of concussion shot.
quit gw for good. end of story.

i dont think any ele build will be as good as a monk build because the skeletons take double damage from holy damage so SoJ deals 100 damage per hit for them...

I've run an Ele/Dervish build when farming outside Bergen or in the Gates of Kryta mission. I can't remember the attributes right off the top of my head, but here are the skills I use:
-Earth Attunement
-Aftershock (or Aura of Restoration if you're having problems due to conditions)
-Glyph of Elemental Power
-Mystic Regeneration (Dervish)
-Armor of Earth
-Stoneflesh Aura
-Sliver Armor
-Master of Magic (Elite)
Max out Earth Magic with a Sup Rune, then enough in whatever Dervish line Mystic Regen is in to give you +3 pips per enchantment, then the rest in Energy Storage.
If you're having problems with the mesmers and monks running on you, chase them a bit, then pin them against the wall. That works like a charm and with all the ranged enemies, Sliver Armor takes them down QUICK!!!!
If you're REALLY having problems, PM me in game and I'll show you how I use the build.....Charismatic Harm.
Mighty Bizatch [W], U Think U Need Me [Mo], Village Unicycle [R], Dead By Association [A], Rori Gilmore [N], Spellbound Psyche [Me], Charismatic Harm [E], Quintessential Chi [Rt], Chuck This [P], Scythey Scytherson [D], Thats Kossome [PvP], Pre Is Kossome [Presearing W]

Fire dmg deals double aswell, so it is not impossible.... just make a hybrid between earth and fire magic, and voila, dmg + protection...

I've gone out of Bergen a bunch of times in a row and the bosses rarely spawn. Sort of did a test because I went out a lot of times and never saw one and thought it was a nerf when I first did. If I remember correctly the warrior, ele and mesmer are not too difficult to kill with a 55 but the ranger, monk and necro are. Also , I never waste my time with groups that have more than 1 healer in it because you could be there all day( sometimes the AI is really smart). I always go into the cursed lands and vanquish the area more often than not. A little tip for those new to 55ing that area , when you first enter take out the rangers and monk straight ahead of you then go for the horseman and monsters to your right to free up the rez shrine. Also if the executioner spawns near the end of that area make sure you have prot spirit, healing breeze and SoJ active before he attacks because of its KD attack. Sorry if this response was a bit too long.
