August 9, 2007 Update

QUOTE
Update - Thursday August 9
Favor of the Gods Changes

To ensure that all territories share in the Favor of the Gods together, we have made several modifications to the Favor system.

    * The Favor of the Gods has been changed from a territory-based PvP reward system to a globally based PvE reward system.
    * Players can now earn world favor in one hour blocks. These blocks are earned when 20 individuals have achieved the maximum rank in several specific titles. Players who obtain maximum rank in these titles while the world holds favor will extend the one hour block by an additional 3 minutes.
    * The following maximum level title tracks count toward achieving Favor of the Gods: Survivor, Defender of Ascalon, Legendary Cartographer, Legendary Guardian, Legendary Skill Hunter, Legendary Vanquisher, Sunspear, Lightbringer, Kurzick, Luxon, Lucky, Unlucky, Gamer, Drunkard, Treasure Hunter, Wisdom, Sweet Tooth, Hero, Gladiator, Champion, and Commander.
    * Once an individual has achieved the maximum rank of one of the titles mentioned above, players in specific outposts (see below) will receive a message informing them how close the world is to receiving the gods' favor, which title was achieved, and the name of the player who achieved it. The outposts that will broadcast this message include: Temple of the Ages, Zin Ku Corridor, Chantry of Secrets, Lion’s Arch, Kaineng Center, Kamadan, and the Great Temple of Balthazar.
    * When the world holds the Favor of the Gods, players can type /favor to display the length of time left before the Favor of the Gods expires. Typing this command when the world does not have the gods' favor displays how many more players must achieve the maximum rank in a title before the world once again earns favor.
    * The Hall of Heroes message no longer references the Favor of the Gods.

I don't completely understand how the new favor is going to work, but twenty hopefuls that America will have it more often now.

The favor now IS NOT region based. When ANYONE reaches max title in any country, then it like racks up "points" i guess. When 20 titles have been maxed the the whole world get the favor for 1 hour. If somemone maxes a title while favor is active, then it lasts for 3 more minutes.

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

I'm not sure how I feel about the Rit skill changes yet, haven't gotten on her yet since the change (capping with my derv tonight). I understand that it's meant to balance the Rit Spikes in HA, but as a hard PvEr myself I kind of twitch when I see Exhaustion. Ah well, just have to whip up some new builds next time I play Rit.

Buff the crap sin skills like mantis touch, not the ones that have use. This nerf kills at least 5 hex based bars i USED to have. Do what u want to this skill SP still will stand IHMO. Izzy needs to make more viable sin bars, not less.

=0 Umm reminds me of a certain skill balance they did a while ago where sins got basically only great buffs and the meta got the nerf hammer. DAM! they got some good buffs here. Rodgorts is omg now, all the glyphs are so much stronger and blurred IMO is now where it should be

Deffinately a nice change, these skills will see much more playtime with this.

Not enough, buff it more, who cares if you do some damage to enemies near them if they ARE going to die a second later. This needs to activate at at least 10% health so then it might actually have a purpose in smite teams which dont exist anyway.

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

I'm okay with all the updates but nerfing Escape and Aegis... that's unacceptable. I mean they totally kill those skills! They can both be countered easily. Escape is a stance so just use wild blow or wild stance. And then Aegis is an enchantment so just use enchantment removal.

And also changing the function of skills? That's just strange. I don't agree with that. Especially Crude Swing. Now it's fairly useless.

Most of the updates are great but the modification of some of the skills I highly disagree with. It sometimes make me wonder if all they think about now at Anet is PvP. What about us PvE people? Do we get screwed because some people exploit certain skills and others don't know how to counter it? Why not just tone them down and upgrade the counters rather than just totally nerfing the skills?

You think that whole update was towards PvP? Look at the favor thing. It's so stupid cuz now its 20 maxed titles to get favor for one hour. PvP people have no business there so that made halls for American's useless. And they need to nerf a lot of those skills because PvP is what draws a lot of people to this game since the pvp in GW is so unique.

quit gw for good. end of story.

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

I think Arenanet makes a mistake with the favor system. HA will die and be not longer the competitive battleground it was. Instead people will go titlefarming to obtain favor for their continents. Result; some people will leave a mission halfway because, as it turns out, they only needed a bit of map etc etc.
The system worked well enough for years. Why the sudden need to change it? All continents have favour on a day, scrolls make the areas accessible at all times. So i wonder why they felt they needed to change the way things work.

As for the skills; first see what the results are in game; then i will decide whether i like them or not. Up till now; all skillupdates have never affected my builds. I doubt that these skillupdates are any different.

I agree with you. Why change it all of a sudden? Everyone was happy for the 2 years that they had it in so why change it now. I think it was a really big mistake for Anet to do that.

HA people still get theyr name shouted out, I just saw one. Although it doesnt say keeps the favor or 4 more wins for favor or anything.
And tbh I highly doubt HAers are disapointed to not be getting favor by winning in HoH, they do it for fame anyways

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

You are forgetting that not everyone who participates in Pvp are concerned with anything besides the rewards at the end and the fame.Of course there are those who don't care about only that, but it isn't everyone.

People have always went halfway into a mission and quit once they got what they came for,so this makes no difference honestly. This isn't and wouldn't be anything new to the game.

Why shelf your Rit when you can easily alter your build? What's so hard about experimenting with various skill bars and builds?Sure one might be effective but there's tons of other combinations that might be even better,it's best to give everything a chance before denying it.

I agree you shouldnt shelve your Rit but I do think that adding in exhaustion isnt the way to go to counteract Rit spike in PvP. Elementalists have a large energy pool with skills that cause exhaustion being high dmg skills. Rits don't have that high energy pool to deal with the exhaustion, I think there could be other ways to counteract the PvP 'problem' without introducing exhaustion.

Another thing about this is it adversely affects the diversity of builds for the Rit - common conception of the Rit in PvE is either as the Sprirt Lord or as a healer, this update isnt going to help people see past those builds and try new things , as weve already seen people are talking about shelving rather than diversifying when diversity was lacking already before this update.

100% agree; but i blame coockiebuilds for that. It has happened with elementalist before (renewal nuker, echo nuker) and necromancer (spitefull spirit, minion master). people expected a certain skillbar. Was yours different; you got called a n00b and got kicked from the team. The mentallity of 'this works i dont need to think up a build myself' will never dissapear unfortunately.
People are afraid to try it seems. Skillupdates change the way skills work; agree. But too often i see people shelving rather then seeing the challenge in adapting, improving and overcoming.
For instance; when the AoE 'nref' came; people deleted their elementalists because they were considered suddenly to be obsolete; no-one put in a snare in his/hers build to overcome that nerf. A simple spell like frozen burst (if you are not afraid to charge in ;p ) or ice spikes could overcome a whole load. Cast the AoE first and then snare them.
More known; the MM. Lots of People abandoned their 'beloved' necromancer because MM was dead. The fact that minion-maintanance became stronger (except for veratas sacrfice) and more effective wasnt interesting enough.

Skill updates keep builds lively and give the oppurtunity to look deeper into your builds. It gives a chance (a forced chance though ;p ) to relook your skillchains, attribute settings and look for useage of skills you never thought of using tainted flesh in PvE for instance; well... except for geek who i saw using it once or twice ^^).

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

Aegis had it coming, the skill is the way it's supposed to be now, not for saving someone on the other side of the map getting ganked by a sin.

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

Most of the skills seem ok to me I like this though:

QUOTE
Glyph of Elemental Power: increased duration to 25 seconds; increased number of Spells affected to 10.

That should be good for my elementalist =P

Edit: Agrees with above: Why change it afer 2 years?
That's really put me off makeing a Ritualist

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

Well I'm fairly upset about the way anet nerfed the Ritspike...As I do not play much PvP, as a PvE'er, and an AVID ritualist player (the only char i play these days is my rit) I look at that and shake my head, as i will probably not use any of those spirits that cause exhaustion - a rit energy pool is bad enough without exhaustion on top of that...

How about : "If there is no other spirit in the area, this skill causes exhaustion." That would at least make me feel better...
As for the spirit rift with 2 second cast time, change it back...reduce the damage.

And as for how favor works now....I think its stupid. I do agree however that favor (Which affects the PvE enviroment) should be gained and lost by PvE happenings, not HA...
I dont know if maxing titles is the right one though, it seems quite stupid to me. How often does anyone really max a title?

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

Too early for me to say much anything about the favor or skills.

I'm in the process of making a Rit and since I'll be new to actually playing the class, I'm certain I'll be able to manage with updated skills and find a suitable build since I haven't been locked into a build just yet.

Favor system was fine the way it was. Scrolls helped out tremendously. Just hoping there won't be a flood of people earning maxed title in the next few days and then none in the next few months.

Well, i mean it doesnt effect the HoH'ers, they only do it for Fame and the Chest anyways, not favor

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

They have really gone all out on the glyphs. Particularly elemental power which just seems to have far too great an effect for its energy output. I always liked it before, I'll probably use it for all my builds now.

While I believe the spiker ritualist needed some balance, I don't think Exhaustion was the way to go for it or the Ritualist Lord. Particularly for Wanderlust as its an elite. To me, these changes will likely cause those wanting to keep the same build to possibly go Ele/Rit so they can better deal with Exhaustion.

The changes overall were nice though. I really like the Flourish elite and hope that the modification to it might give it a bit more attention.

/agree its all about fame and hoh chest for most of them. altho winning favour was a bonus. i think anet are sperating pve form pvp and making them independant.

i'd like to see them coming closer tho

i liekd the old system but c'mon how many controversal updates did anet brign out that looking back now was for the better, all of them were for the better. so give it time and you'll see.

RE: August 9, 2007 Update

Way back just before Factions came out I remember reading about the new elite missions and alliance battles and I thought that those were going to be the new way that Anet controlled access to elite areas. I'm sure they can think of something more PVE oriented. As for maxing titles I have played a very long time and I dont put all of my effort into that and I'm sure I'm not the only one, so waiting for someone else to do it I have doubts.
