| Gameamp may harm my computer? |
|
|
|
Well as I tried to open up GA today, McAfee site advisor changed the web address and told me that the website may harm my computer.
WTF is going on?

Gameamp is potentially harmful due to extreme amounts of Awesomeness.
*ahem*
More seriously, is any page in particular bringing up this warning, or just the frontpage? The more info the better so we can look into this. What browser, specific pages etc?
Cheers.

I don't know if this could just be a pure coincidence, but earlier today I ran both Spybot and Adaware on my P.C. Spybot found 30+ threats, and Adaware also 30+... :S.
Gameamp is the website that I hands-down visit the most often, usually 10+ times a day, so the chances are that if I have gotten that many threats from somewhere, Gameamp's high up on the suspect list. :-| As I said though, this could just be pure coincidence.
EDIT: Just as a note, 90% of these were harmless tracking cookies, so if it is indeed Gameamp, it's nothing too serious.

Bah! Firefox! :-p
I'm using IE7 with Computer Associates firewall and anti-virus products and I never have issues. I really recommend getting away from McAfee anyway because it eats up system resources.

A tracking cookie is what keeps you logged in on websites. they will pop up in virus scans, etc. but pose no actual threat

Another browser sugguestion: Opera....its safer than FF, and has many of FF's plugins, built in.
I've been using it for some time now, and I havnt had any problems with viruses, even when we knew for a fact that some viruses were coming from the ads.

| QUOTE | | Tracking cookies are small files that web sites use to track where you go on the internet. They're generally harmless, but you should still probably rid yourself of them regularly if you're concerned about the privacy issue. |

How to Block Tracking Cookies
EDIT: Opera also only accepts cookies from sites you browse to, as default....maybe this is why I've had no problems from the ads on gameamp.

also cookies hold session information, website preferences and some list where you have been online.

Correct, but the problem here is Tracking cookies, which are not needed. Cookies(the ones that store session info, etc), and tracking cookies are different....cookies are usually required for websites with logins, whereas tracking cookies are not required for anything, therefore can safely be disabled.
