Salt Crystals

I am working on a new Earth/Sonic controller and thought I would try Salt Crystals. Wow, was I disappointed! I usuallay avoid 'sleep' powers for the simple reason that, when you team, most of your teammates will wake them all up anyway with some sort of AoE effect. However, I found this 'sleep' power to be even more useless than most. The duration was very short, plus it is a PBAoE so I need to be in melee range to use it. I will say that the animation and graphics are cool, but that's not enough.

Anyone out there take this power and love it? Please help me see the benefits of this thing.

RE: Salt Crystals

I second that, Salt Crystals suck for the most part. And I can find the good in almost any power. It doesn't even have all that much for ammusement factor.(At least Repel from the Kinetics line makes me laugh my butt off, even though it drives my teammates nutz!)

Consider this silver lining: You NEVER have enough slots to get all the powers you want out of a primary and secondary set combination. There's one less descision for you. You can leave that one behind and never doubt your descision!

RE: Salt Crystals

I agree in the Controller earth set that it's effects are pretty useless in a group, however if you are soloing it can still be handy. Stone Cages does not prevent ranged Foes from attacking you. Salt Crystals locks them down and incapacitates them, then you can use your single target attacks to take them out. Helps with targets missed by Stone Cages also. This is one to get and respec out of later when you can get something more impressive.
Marine has the Tanker Earth Mastery set and it is the least used of the three powers I selected ( fossilize, salt crystals, and stalagmites ). Fossilize is excellent for locking down Sappers etc., and Stalagmites is like a Footstomp Jr. I only use Salt Crystals when I need some breathing room or the time to take out a Boss and deal with his minions later.

I agree about the sleep powers, and especially in this case because its a PBAoE power. With Mind Control, at least Mass Hypnosis is a ranged AoE sleep so you don't have to get into the mix to use it.
