Pirates of the Caribbean Online

Hold on gamers it’s time to set sail with a new Massive Multiplayer Online Game in production by Disney Interactive based on the hit movie trilogy; Pirates of the Caribbean.

QUOTE
“At the end of the Golden Age of
Buccaneers, as the armadas of the Western Europe struggle to tame the wilds of the New World, the last of the great pirates of the Caribbean and their mighty ships must wage epic battles for freedom, even as they are caught between encroaching civilization and the awesome power of the living myths and legends of the Seven Seas”.

Pirates of the Caribbean online is currently in beta testing but is hoping to hit store shelves in fall of 2007. The game will open up the imaginations of many who enjoyed the movies and dreamed of being on the frontlines with good old Jack Sparrow, Mrs. Swan, Will turner and the evil Davy Jones.

Players will have many features to look forward to including the vast collection of costume designs including peg legs, eye patches, tattoos and scars that will allow each player to be as unique as possible. Also, players will be able to not only customize their own ship but also assemble a crew to accompany them on their long journeys at sea.

Disney had made the decision to look past classes in PotCO, instead players will have the choices of skills trees where the more you use a certain skill the stronger it becomes. These skills include; cannon, cutlass, dagger, pistol, grenade, doll (magic), and staff.

Combat with swords in PotCO takes advantage of the special skills and chain attacks. During combat a player would simply right click and a menu will appear listing all available special skills. Chain attacks can occur by left clicking at certain points during swings allowing the opportunity to avoid only hitting once per attack. There is a magic class as well (doll) that takes advantage of Voodoo, allowing players to whip out a voodoo doll to do damage to foes.

Due to Classes being exempt from the game and skill trees being the focus, Disney will tackle the problem of many characters being the same near end game by making players choose two specific categories to focus development on. The game will also provide many quests handed out by the various NPC’s as well as guilds and instances.

PvP will also be available at launch with Disney recognizing that it is a main feature when it comes to MMOG’s.

The biggest news about PotCO is that Disney will allow gamers to play FREE in a windowed mode with adds scrolling the outside; as well as having a subion fee for those who want access to extra content and lose the ads.

Graphics wise PotCO will not amaze you; Disney did this so it could be run on a wide variety of machines. There is a cartoon feel while playing but it is not as bad as it may sound. Being that Pirates of the Caribbean was popular amongst all ages from kids to adults it was important to make the game reach out to that same demographic.

Pirates hopes to hit shelves this fall providing everything wraps up well in the ongoing beta. One thing is for sure, you won’t want to miss out on the continuing story line of one of the most successful movie franchises today.
