Greetings and salutations all!
I have been playing CoV for 12 months and am now wanting to try my hand at the Hero side of things. I have many brutes on the villain side and want to try a Tank on Heroes. I would appreciate any input you all can give me on selecting sets. I have looked over the sets on the net and in the build phase of the game itself. I am leaning toward Ice/Stone atm as Ice is not offered on the villain side and this piques my curiousity. And Stone because my main on Villains is a Stone/Elec brute and I really love the amount of damage that Stone does. Any input will be greatly appreciated!
Sothic-lvl 50 Stone/Elec brute
Mythic-lvl 38 Dark/Dark brute
Christic-lvl 23 Stone/Stone brute
Angra Mainyu-lvl 21 Stone/Inv brute
Powerotic-lvl 10 EM/Elec brute

Ice and stone are my two personal favorite tank sets, seeing as how you have a 50 stone brute, I'm sure you have ways of dealing with all that slowness. That is the detracting factor for me, and the reason I prefer ice tanks over stone tanks. The ice set is an all around great set, and with chilling embrace you will have no difficulties holding aggro. The best part of the ice tank set however, is the energy absorption (free endurance refills, yay). I'm not sure how you played your brute, but if you were main aggro taker, you'll slide right into the job of tanking on the hero side of things... and you'll have more HP to do it. Drawback, you won't be outputting the dmg you do with your brute. One thing to remember, tanks start out slow (seemingly much slower than brutes) so you won't start really having fun until you can slot up in your teens. Be patient and tanks will grow on you... personally, I am enjoying an ice/energy melee tank right now and I think it will be quite powerful in the mid to upper 30's.

An Ice/Stone tank is a pretty nice combo that often gets overlooked by the more common secondaries with Ice, such as fire, EM, and SS. One of the nice things about the combo is the fact that chilling embrace has a -speed or slow, and this helps with the "superspeed disorient effect" from fault's stun. You already know Stone's strengths and weaknesses, and probably can imagine how a little extra damage mitigation with KDs will help with a defense based set.
I say go for it, as it's a great combo, that should please you very much. :)

Another thing to mention is that you're going to want to probably always invite a blaster or scrapper on your team.
Since you're used to playing a brute, you'll go crazy if you solo because the damage output on a tank below 20 is horribly low. Blasters and Scrappers ease this pain tremendously.

So that's why you're always wanting to team with me Big? Cause I'm just nothing but a damage dealer? ;p

I forgot to add to my original comment, how do Tankers fair in PVP? I have not noticed many in my time on CoV. I see TONS of Scrappers, the stray Controller, and a decent amount of Blasters, but I have only seen 2 Tanker's in Warburg that I can recall right off the top of my head. Going by the comments thus far I can assume that they do not do particularly well in lower levels like Bloody Bay and Siren's Call, but how do they do at higher levels, say in Recluse's Victory?
Thanks for the comments posted, I have started my Ice/Stone on the Victory server, his name is Crystic, and I took him to lvl 10 last night following creation. I have been lucky enough to have a friend help guide me through the opening stages (Kings Row before The Hollows so that I have a pack to travel with), and to get me into the Legion of Valor SG. But again...Thank you all again for your knowledge shared!

Tankers and PvP...
Well, from what I know, Ice/EM tanks seem to be one of the more dominant Heroes running around Recluse's Victory. The thing with tankers is that most of them don't get their big attack until later, so the earlier PvP zones create a bit of a challenge for them. I hear Super Strength can do okay in Siren's, due to having KoB and Rage. Also, Stone tanks with Granite are pretty good anchors for teamed PvP. Other than that, can't really comment. :)

I've been known to dabble in the PvP on occasion and I do decently well considering I've had no formal training.
My two highest tanks (ice/ice and fire/em) fair completely differently in PvP. I love taking my icer in PvP zones because he can handle anyone 1v1. He may not kill them, but he certainly won't die. I rely on my +perception, slows and holds to whittle away my opponents, and I mean whittle as in with a rusty butter knife. It takes a while for me to kill anything.
Now my fire/em tank handles very differently and I haven't had much PvP exposure with her, except an arena match or two. But EM is unbelievable in PvP. Total focus is such a powerful attach and the stun is such a high magnitude that I've had my shields dropped on my Icer with it. Total Focus followed up by Bone Smasher is sure to stun anyone 90% of the time.
As for stone and invul, my highest of each is around 13 so I can't tell ya yet.

Any powers in Ice primary that is not worth having? i.e., what should I skip, if any? I heard someone saying some negative things about Icicles today but noticed that he had only been playing for 3 months so should I put any stock in this? He was not an Ice Tanker so the info he gave is second hand to boot.

It's a preference power. You don't need Icicles as an aggro aura, but with the new IO set, you can get some nice bonuses from it.
