One last shot...

Alright guys, one last time. I've had a heck of a time finding a graphics card that would work properly with my computer that would also run Guild Wars. I think I may have finally found it.

Its a Ati Radeon 9200 SE 64MB AGP card. I know it is compatible with my computer, I just wanted to know if it would actually work for its purpose! Thanks guys :)

The recommended is a Radeon 9600. I would keep shopping. Also try to get at least 128MB, 512MB is better.

I have a Radeon 9600 with 128MB and I turn everything down while I am playing and up for screenshots.

i'd say that a a new card should have at least 256 mb memory as at the least. For GW, a 128 mb card may suffice, but for nearly any other new game, that little memory will cripple you so much you wont even want to play. 256 will at least give you enough fps to be playable.

That should do just fine to atleast run it fine. It meets the minimum specs for Eye of the North. :) Should do just fine. :D

Yeah, all I really care about is the minimum specs for now. There is a new computer on the horizon for me, one that has lots of pretty graphics and such. Its only gonna cost me like 20 bucks for the card, so I might as well try. Thanks guys, we shall see if it works :)

And you're only getting 60 fps?!? There's something wrong there, that card should push GW up into the hundreds.

Nuked, check EBay. If you're looking forward to a new PC anyway you can risk something second hand and you should expect a bit more than a 9200 for $20. The bottom of the Ati's X series are now legacy and going pretty cheap, they also mostly come in PCIe & AGP.

Or you could save and get a pair of these: Black Pearl (Price in $$$ = 2x £££)

^_-

RE: One last shot...

I'd guess at a frame limiter somewhere in your Gfx control panel, perhaps it's set to limit to the monitor refresh which would be 60 if you have a TFT or other flat screen.

People on here with high end systems (which you have) have shown fps in the hundreds, I can get 70+ in small areas with my x1900.

Check it as you play, if the fps doesn't drop...ever...then you're bouncing off a limiter somewhere and that's ok. In all honesty you can't see a refresh higher than about 30 fps anyway so it's not a problem. If it drops during play you need to check that there isn't something wrong.

Do a little test and turn all the gfx in GW to their lowest, that should pop your frame rate up a bit.

Does anyone else have an 8800...what sort of performance do you get??

Edit:

I didn't intend to upset or scare...the 8800 is a bit of a monster tho and I've seen older cards push out much higher fps in GW.

^_^

It's likely to be because the refresh rate on your monitor is set to 60hz, increase the refresh rate and the fps increases.

RE: One last shot...

Note about FPS (scientifically):
A FPS above 25 is kinda pointless lol. The human eye has the ability (and thats if you have 100% sight) of seeing a maximum of 25 images per second. Setting your monitor to 70 Hz is the best solution (Hz and FPS are different btw :) FPS is the images per second; Hz is the refreshing rate of the image itself). If you want a steadier image; boost the Hz not the FPS. A higher FPS then 25 is totally awesome though pointless :)

I use a Nvidia 7900GT PCI-e 256MB DDR 2 Gh; got al settings put to maximum all the time, running @ 1650x1080, and get a FPS of 40 minimum. Though if it drops to 30 (which it occassionally does) i dont see any difference. Mind that with Lagg; your FPS drops as well. So if your internet connection runs low; the FPS will drop as well. Anyway; if i am experiancing lagg; my FPS drops while my comp runs tops.
