Yeah, so, my video card worked before with Windows XP, but now that I have Windows Vista, it isn't working. It says I need DirectX 8 (I have DirectX 10) and an upgrade of my video card, which I can't find. By the way, I have an IBM T40, so I won't be able to just go buy a new video card and install it, because it's a laptop. Help?

Erm, looking at the stats of this card I would say it is WAY too weak for Vista. Like very very.

With laptops you are generally stuck with what is built in. Do you know if your's has a mini-PCI spot? If it does, then you can upgrade it with a mini-PCI card.
Also only the very newest video cards support DX10.

White thing with a line in the middle :P But I think you need to upgrade you Graphic card drivers.
Check at ATI *Click click*
Then look at the drivers and search your graphic card ^^
Oh ya, Vista sucks xP Makes your FPS sometimes 50%(max) lower in games. So take XP, it's alot better.
Good luck xD

All about mini-PCI.
You would have an access panel on the bottom of your laptop that will have a mini-PCI port in there. Look in your manual to see if you even have one of these. I dont know if laptops are still equiping these. When in doubt, call IBM tech support to see what can be done.

Ok, so I looked it up in the "regulatory notice" that came with it, and there is a section that says:
| QUOTE | User Installable Wireless Module
Mini-PCI Cards
-FCC ID:......(Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Mini-PCI Adapter from IBM
-FCC ID:......(Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG mini-PCI Adapter)
-FCC ID:......(IBM 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter)
-FCC ID:......(IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II)
Communication Daughter Card (CDC)
-FCC ID:.....IBM Integrated Bluetooth IV with 56K Modem |
The "....." up there are just in place of an alphanumeric number and Model # I didn't want to type. So, yeah, I guess I can have those Mini-PCI things. Which one though?

non of those are video cards, so non of them would help. Looks like you are stuck with the graphics adapter you have. Install XP with DX9.

I've been trying!!!! It's soooo annoying!!!!
Ok, so I've been trying to find a Windows XP install disc for over a week now, and then I broke down and compromised for the vista. now it doesn't work. I've been looking online for a download of MS XP, but those are all downloading the stuff onto a floppy disc and then loading that onto your computer. Does anyone know of one that does that for a normal CD-ROM disc?

if your pc came with XP then it should have a serial/authentication type deal. if so, then you can simple call up your PC provider and have them send you a disk. if you dont have your serial for XP or your pc didnt come with xp then you need to purchase it.

If I remember correctly you only need DX-10 if you are going to be running the Aero desktop. I think you might be able to run Vista without. Anyone else verify this for me?

Try some of these links:
DirectX 9.L will be a DirectX 10 for Windows XP
Secret of Graphics in Windows Vista - Directx 10
DirectX 9c Download from Microsoft
Try downloading the DirectX 9c there and see if it will install on Vista. You might have to, I advise it, remove DirectX 10 1st.
Oh ya and just for reference:
List of Games that Support DX10

So, does anyone know of a way to "downgrade" from Vista to XP for free?
EDIT: Or what about downgrading to Windows 98? Would that be worth it?

I don't think you can "downgrade" in such sense.
Nevertheless as it was suggested before if your notebook is straight from a legal shop with legal Windows XP pre-installed on it you can try calling the dealership and ask for a disk. Or you can ask Microsoft itself to send you a disc, provided you have the serial number to verify the originality of your XP. I know my relative had Microsoft mail him the SP 2 service pack for XP.
So try.

If your graphic card can run DirectX 10 , you should be able to run DirectX 9. Download it here*Click Click*
Don't mind the notice about Software developer, cuse I do that always too :P Download and install and you normally run DirectX 9 after the reboot.
Good luck!

You might find a copy on EBay, just make sure it comes with a serial. If you bought Vista from a shop you could always take the Lappy there and yell at them some to see if they'll fix it for you or give you an old XP disk.
