Get this app: CleanUp
Also run a defrag. You would be suprised how these two things will help out.
For Spyware: Spybot and Ad-Aware

I'm not sure if this is what the problem is with the computer, but I had something similar happen to me.
After trying all kinds of things, virus scan, etc, even wiping and installing Windows from fresh, without any sucess, I found out that it was the power supply that was faulty (even though it had worked for quite some time before that).
I don't know if you have a spare power supply to try, and if not, they're not that expensive to buy a new one, but that is definately something that I'd try.
Just my $0.02. seeing as that was what had happened to me.
Hope you can get the computer up and running :-)

Lol, happens to me too and I found the problem, anyway for me it does.
Maybe its only a bug in the AMD processors(Can be on Intel too).
If I run Xfire togethere with a game, 5min laters, bwam, pc freezes, reboot, lost everything. So i thought, Xfire isnt that good , ill try to not use it while gaming. And now i dont have any crashes anymore ^^

every 5 minuets well if it is the powersupply then normally it shuts down if its freezing then try a system restore to before it started freezing might be something as simple as the settings.
