Maybe I should get you little nametags! =o
Anyways,
Do you have to pay base rent when you're using the default plot size?
Probably a common question, but I just wanna be sure. =]
Also, very proud of myself. Three GM's while picking up some exploration badges. =D
One of them was under a stumbling Jack and Eochai, and the other, not too far from a Kronos Class Titan. =D

I'm pretty sure that base rent is only required for bases that are customized and stuff/. Default isn't required, but don't take my word for it, never been in charge of that, just in charge of designing it :).

While default base size is zero rent you really cant use it for much except an entrance you cant put any control or energy or work tables or teleporters. So basically your base will be just an entrance room.

Sorry to disagree with you VV, but look in the screenshots section. Armada Alliance base on Champion is a full base with medical, control, power, teleport, and workroom facilities. I pay ZERO rent for it.

I don't think that's right. I have a small personal base on Freedom that requires no rent. It has a power/control combo room and unit, a workshop with storage, and a medbay.
I believe the plot size you are given to work with when you get the base building permit requires no rent. But, if you upgrade to a bigger plot, then your rent starts kicking in.

There is no way to invite yourself because both heroes have to be in-game when the invite happens.
What I did was enlist some help from an Amper (LordX in my case) and invited one of his heroes to my group. then he stood still while I logged into each of my heroes and he invited and promoted each one.
If you have access to 2 computers there is another way. Get a free trial account and create a character on that account and go in-game on one PC with that character. Then log into your normal account on the second PC and invite that trial character into your group. Then log into each of your other characters and have your trial character invite each of your real account characters into the supergroup and promote them.
This is how I am running my solo Supergroup on Victory with 11 characters of mine in the group. LordXenophon has one character that he just keeps in the group to help me out if I ever need it.

I, like Swiss, have friends that are members of the SG that help out with invites of my personal charachters. Bigspeer and Giles202 both have characters as members (for example). There is an open invitation to any Amper on Champion to send me a PM if they want to join the SG. I was a player on CoH long before I discovered the Gameamp community, but my Supergroup is open to all who are interested. The base I created is on the basic 8x8 plot, and up until not too long ago the base rent almost caused me to lose my base (not enough active members, low prestige coming in, too much going out). Only since the devs changed the rent policy has the Armada Alliance base grown and been added to, since 100% of the prestige goes to maintaining and adding to the current base. With the ability to sell off an unused teleport beacon (you do not lose access to it) and buying a new one to a different zone, 4 telepads are adequate to give the members access to any zone at any time. Add in the base teleporter vet reward and you are just a couple of clicks from any zone! Now, I am adding stylistic tweaks and just artistic touches like base details.

H.E.R.O.E.S. International on Gardian has a fully functional base on the basic plot equiped as follows:
-Full control room with advanced computer, SG mission computer (inactive because there is no SG group teleporter), holographic display and invention salvage vault.
-Full power room with standard generator, 2 energy breakers and an inspiration container
-Small workshop with salvage container, the biggest salvage empowerment converter available, advanced worktable and invention work table.
-Full medical center with enhancement container and 4 medical pods
-4 teleport chambers each containing 2 transporter pads for 2 zones each.
