Farming Locations

After much debate and opinions about farming, and being an avid farmer, I have decided to do a study on this subject.

My tentative title is "Making Money in Guild Wars; A scientific Approach to Farming Effectiveness."

My plan is to gather data about a number of solo farming spots and actually use some statistical modeling to determine where is the best location. Once this project is complete, i will publish my findings, most likely as a guide here, and possibly Wiki. (assuming there is actually interest in the study.)

What I'm asking the GameAmp community is where they think the best farming location is. The only premise is it has to be solo-able by a monk/any. Depending on you suggested location, I might ask about a build, but I have a lot of soloing experience.

Once I have compiled a list, I will ask the community to rank them and I will conduct my study on the top 6 locations. I have already determined my data collection method and modeling and it will be shared when complete. I'm limiting it to 6 locations because of the time involved.

hey, I need something to do for awhile, and I'm kind of broke right now anyway.

Why only a monk. I don't even think a monk is the MOST effective way to farm.
No offense to any of the monks out there.

RE: Farming Locations

Chyeaaaa, well. In my eyes, ele is able to farm 100% of what a monk can do..... I mean, I can fully do UW,undead, glint challenge, etc.

My war is even good going w/t, but yet my ele can farm almost anything with the right build...

I mean, eles ftw

lmao

re: farming locations

because h'm using a monk because that is my choice of characters. and quite honestly don't really care if others feel that their way is the best way. if you felt like adding to it, the do so, if not, don't post.

i guess this goes back to some other topics brought up by others. if you aren't going to contribute, why post?

ahh, flaming, i get it.

RE: Farming Locations

people please try and keep it on-topic, theres been a simple and clear request made for information, if you can't contribute constuctively to the post don't bother, your just going to make the op think why bother with trying to do anything constructive on this forum?

on-topic :

i still enjoy doing the monk run from bergen hot springs through to temple of ages in hard mode, i complete a small part of nebo terrace, the whole of cursed lands and probably about a third of the black curtain.

RE: Farming Locations

to that run you use the mo/d build right?

protective spirit - shield of absorption - holy strike - shield of judgment - balthazar's spirit - essence bond - blessed aura - mystic regeneration

RE: Farming Locations

i do bergan as well, you should be able to do the hse's outside ascalon (from sanctum) as well. i'm not sure if you can still use an iw build for uw, i gave up on my monk there because the ele was so much faster. i've seen people going solo to fow as well but i've not tried it in ages.

so:

trolls
mineral springs
bergan
uw
fow
old ascalon
gates of kryta (the undead behind the house at the start)

can't think of anything else atm.

what's your null because this is going to be a pretty broad study with so many variables.

^_^

re: farming locations

i use a different build for each place, they are all based on a 55 tho so just play with what works for you.

also wtf is with the caps? there's a str_tolower() in effect somewhere that shouldn't be and it's bugging me!!

it's somewhere between the db & write to page since the preview is fine as is the edit.

-.-

how strange, the correct people have been informed, thanks for noticing.

i don't farm with my monk anywhere near as much as i used to, but my favourite farm is still the faranhur the first city with a mo/d, you can get inscribable drops there, better that the junk dropped in prophesies, imo.

what's your null because this is going to be a pretty broad study with so many variables.

^_^
i came up with a way to control the biggest variables in at attempt to limit it to an average of money over time.

i'm not going to share my method now, as that also would bring up the flaming because i know not everyone will agree with my methods.

but, like any good study, it will be quantifiable and repeatable. it isn't a "how to farm this or that place" guide, it's a "do the facts support people's assumptions" guide.

so far this is the list i've complied, and most of them i've farmed at one time or another.
first city
nebo terrance
mineral springs - the one i haven't farmed
mantids (ran misu gardens)
trolls
hyrdras
old ascalon
jade knights (market place)
gates of kryta
dragon moss
atrium ruins

i wasn't aware of a working solo monk uw/fow build, but i might do a two man, or a warrior solo because the perceptions seem to be that this is the best money maker. (i don't think so, but again, that's based upon opinion not any facts)

i'm going to limit it two 6 locations, based upon where people think the top places are. once i get a list, i will ask people to rank them.

so basically, i'm after the question "does the facts (quantifiable, verifiable, and repeatable) support what everyone "knows" is true. (kind of like everyone "knows" that gold items are the best, lol)

strange about the capitalization, and to think last night when i typed the first post, i thought i was having a bad time of typing.

why not exclude uw/fow from your test since they aren't viable solo farm areas with a monk (unlesss anyone can show me a reliable farm) and just test 6 regular areas. once you're done you can put your results up against a 2 man team and test for gold/time.
