Hey, i wanna upgrade my ram! dun..dun...dunnnnnn
I dunno what ram to get though, i dont mean like storage capacity, im getting 1g of ram, so i can have 1.5g of ram, but i dunno like...what type?!, and i dunno how to identify what model or make of ram i need to get :S ! DAMN YOU COMPUTER MECHANICS!!
So, i need your help ^.^ to identify it :)
So can you tell me, what i need to tell you, so you can identify what type i need please :)

i'm no expert, but if you open up your computer and look at the ram you already have in there it should have the type written on it somewhere. at least it does on mine.
so you're probably best off simply ordering more of the same type.

can you tell me what type of motherboard and processor you have? just tell me the manufacturer and model (i.e. dell xps m170) and i can tell you which type of ram you need. also, i can find some decent ram for you :p.

best place to find out what kind of ram you need is a website that will scan you computer and tell you exactly what kind you need and what is compatable with your computer. it is safe i use it all the time for upgrades of my machines.

ALSO, before you change your ram, I would go look at the nice pretty pictures at: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,18024-page,4/article.html
And you dont need more than 2gigs for any game right now, that should be enough. If you are still lagging I would look at your video card or router.

1.25 gig of ram is okay i wouldnt play with any less if i were you.
and rage, zomg get yourself atleast another 512 lmao...i told you that before. how do you even run wow with only 512mb of ram? its the bare min you can have and still run it, hahaha.
anyway if you have the money i would get 2 x 1 gig sticks should run you around $50 a piece to $100 a piece. and $50 ram can be just as good as $100 ram.

dell xps 410, good chipset, core 2 duo, shouldnt set you back more than $600 for a good one, look for a refurb. you can always add gig stick of ram later.

i have decided that i will never get a dell again. too many proprietary parts...and upgrading through dell is mucho expensive.
if you do get a dell, make sure you check how much power the power supply can put out. the power supply (as well as the motherboard) is not a standard form factor (unless they finally changed that). i went to upgrade the video card on my dell a while back, wanted to put an nvidia 6600gt into it...it drew too much power when under a full load and would reboot the computer. upgrading ram on a dell is not bad though, since it doesn't usually draw too much extra power. the hard drive as well can be changed out for a larger capacity one without too much hassle. unfortunately, that's about all unless you find an upgrade to the video card that is within the wattage range of the power source (upgrading the power source on a dell isn't worth it, you can only get them from 2 sources and they're not worth the price).

i love you guys, i feel like less of a nerd just by looking at these posts...i havent the slightest idea what your talking about other then the simplistic's of ram lol... and btw iv been running wow on 512 for the longest time and i have no real complaints, minor lagg here and there and 1 hallway in kara causes serious lagg untill u clean 2-3 of the 10 5+ mobs

ok so ive sorted out 2 1gb ram cards for my computor and i was wondering if when you put a new set of cards in do you lose some data? and if you do how do i back up my wow addons and my windows media player playlists?

Dont ask me how I got that precise number. I honestly dont know. I thought that RAM came in multiples of 128. It is what my computer tells me when I do a system check.

sure thats not hard drive space?
its impossible to have 384 gigabytes of ram currently without having a server that would take up a good portion of a room.
384 MEGAbytes however would make sense. it comes in 128 MB per...so its possible to have a 256mb slot and a 128 mb slot in there...which is strange and its about 1/3 of a gig which is kinda sucky.
