what do you guys think of this for a pc build? have i missed anything? have you had bad experience with any of these parts? i've been doing some research and this is what i'm looking at getting to build a new pc, but figured there are some bright people on here that might be able to offer a good second opinion. i'm planning to buy this stuff piece by piece over the next few months. so hopefully vista sp1 will be out by the time i'm getting close to wrapping up the purchasing. gw is the game i spend the most time on (i realize this is probably overkill for just gw) but i want this to be something that can hopefully last for awhile and be able to handle future games fairly well.

go for it. thats a sweet build. you might want to get a 1000w ps, if you plan on filling up on hard drives. i would also take a look at raid0 or 1.

i'm sure that you want a dx10 compatible card but at what expense? the 8600 isn't great, ati x19's are better for the money.
pay the extra $100 and get a 640mb 8800, it's a way way better card and will be more future proof. if you don't you'll find yourself upgrading to one later anyway to play the new dx10 games.

can be helpful.

no i believe he was saying that yes an 8600 is dx10 and the ati x19s aren't, but the extra $ for the dx10 8600 isn't worth it since the cheaper x19s out-perform it.
i have been going back and forth on this for sometime keo. i've actually been flip-flopping between several different cards. i just can't decide if i want to spend the extra $ for a high-end dx10 card. but i don't want to buy something that's going to be out-dated almost immediately.
the vid card's going to be one of the last things i buy so i might just wait until the 10.1 cards come out.

if i understand correctly, dx10.1 will run on a dx10 card (but in order to use the .1 features you need a 10.1 card). so basically if you want the cool new features a 10.1 card is needed but you can get by with a dx10 card.

sssoooo....
whats the point of getting a dx10 card....if your going to have to constantly upgrade to play games that require 10.1

WWWHHHHHAAAAAAAA???? BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!
but in all seriousness, I think you might be able to use dx10.1 on a dx10 card and still get all of the goodies cause I think all they need to do is release a new drive, might be wrong though...

I think you'll be fine with that card..as for dx10.1 compability, dont worry about it.
Currently I'm running dx10 on a dx9 level card (at least, thats what vista is telling me)

I wouldnt sugguest the 8600GTS, its hardly better than my 7800GTX, with the extra capability of DX10.
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=310&card2=512
I would sugguest at least an 8800GTS if you must have DX10, but I have got to warn you, I tried out Vista and I had nothing but problems from it.....blue screens, laggy system, general slowness(took about a minute to show the add/remove programs window) etc.....on a Q6700 processor(running at 3.4Ghz), 4 gigs of ram, and a 7800GTX.
PS: For those running Vista, the above system had a 5.4 score with the lowest number being the IDE HD I had in it.
EDIT: Also, Vista is a resource hog.....look at the Crysis requirements:
2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or
3.2 GHz or faster (Vista)
1.0 GB RAM (XP) or
1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or greater.

As of now the 8600-series from nVidia and the HD2600-series from ATI don't look all that hot for smooth Dx10 gameplay anyway, they're more in the "low-mid ranger, casual gamer" segment.
Heck even the current top of the line don't cut it that well. Here are some benchmarks. As the drivers mature and games get patched you could see some improvements here and there but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Right now DX10 compatibility is more of a marketing gimmick than anyting else, yet again the first DX9 compatible cards aren't exactly up to current games' standard either, are they? (As a side-note, the HD2600 XT does look good compared to the x1950 Pro in a few shader intensive benchmarks, such as Oblivion or UT3).
I would say, get a solid DX9 card for now, and save some money on it for more future-proof components (also 512MB on that kind of card is pretty much a waste IMO).
Especially your power supply, that is definitely not something you should skimp on.
To be honest, I don't recognize that PSU you're mentioning, but remember this: these days, the power on the 12V rail is probably the most important to consider. Say your PSU there has 610W max output, but only 12-13 A on the 12V well sorry but it's junk. The absolute minimum would be 15-16A. 18A to be safe.
Also check how many different 12V rails it has. Though rare, you could stumble upon a PSU with only 1 rail. Downright bad, they aren't following the latest ATX standards.
Edit: note to self, check the darn hyperlink before lecturing people...
