unlike mom and dad i don't consider myself being a game addict. i play about 4 hours a day, or, nah. i don't play that much. i spend alot time watching movies, listen to music and reading about stuff that interests me. but mom and dad aren't that open for the "computer age". me and my friends, we communicate through ventrilo, msn or any other program. back then they used the phone for that. we have lan weekends at eachother and have fun playing games on the computers together, is'nt that similar to family games like monopol and such.
anyhow i am a fiction freak. i love stuff that aint "normal" and real. i love made up stuff, reading action mangas, watching anime that for mom and dad makes absolutely no sense.
the computer is for me a way of escaping reality. instead of playing thru oblivion and put it aside i play it, pretending to be the guy. i play guild wars cause of the fantastic stories, the mighty heroes and to interact with people that got atleast one or two interests in common with me.
follow me into the world where dreams are no longer dreams, eh?

wow. finally someone that shares my pain xd i play games whenever i can like when i finished hw and stuff and my parents think that i'm too addicted to this =p yea its tru that reading mangas and watching anime is like escaping reality but like my friends says, too much of that stuff distorts your view of reality xd
u could always do wht i do and try to make your parents play games with u. it works for my dad, i recently got him to play bleach blade battlers 2 =p try it it might work

naw ive tried. tho when i dont sit at the computer i watch disney channel^^ i really dont give a crap boutwhats going on irl. its just war and shit anyways. and no, i am pretty normal if u speak to me. not like many other "nerds" that are totally wierd and acting all silly.

Escaping reality is one thing, just dont let the games dominate your mind and start to think the real-world outside is being invaded by aliens which are turning everyone into zombies, and you, the lone hero, has to blow everything to pieces.

1: what's ur definition of geeks?
2: everyone who plays each day a game he likes is not immideatly addicted. you also watch to soaps that come every night/week/weekend and thats normal. deal with it computer games will be normal in the next 10 to 20 years.
3: being addicted is physical and mentally need for a specific "thing" like if you use drugs or alcohol that makes u an addict. if you can still function normally in real life then you are no addict. its not like you get headache bellyache or w/e if you dont computer?
4: if you get called an addict and you play like 4 hours ( u sayd less but keep it 4 hours) isn't it weird to call other people geeks? geeks are just like you. they just play a game they like but they got more free time.
myself, i'm not an addict i'm a anime and game lover. i love books to and i study movie arts (gonna be next steven spielberg if i'm going in right direction ;) )
being modern then your parents doesn't make you an addict

first off the world is being invaded by aliens... or atleast the u.s is. ( mature joke if u get it amigos < hint) but seriously rl sux. its the same news everyday. another guy died in this place. next day the guy that died yesterday is now from some place and is tied to yada yada yada. but in guildwars all is peaceful for the most part.

well according to somthing random i read on the truthful internet the average american spends 5 hours aday watchign t.v. (some studies say that tv for young children inccreases authism), but do this with an interactive medium such as a computer and its seen as nerd like....but i watch 5 hours of tv too so they may have a point.
the whole concept of "gamer" has changed fform the sterotype nerd to a completly new a vast audiance.
i consider myself maybe not addict but proud of the lenght of time i game

i play comp and xbox live for 3-4 hours a day n my parents hate me for it. They think the people online are imaginary and geeks, but its untrue. People who play games AND do other stuff that keeps them sane are totaly normal. +cred me if you have the same problem or agree with me. Yes my typing sux and ignore the typoes. Im typing really fast.

lol dudes even though i dont play gw anymore i know what it feels like, i became wow player maybe some of u will say im stupid cause they hate wow, but for me wow became other reality which i play around 12 hours a week not much and not too small amount of time, cause if i play more hours ill become addict which isnt good. so guys u arent alone in this world. many ppl seek cure* from reality.

yay i love being me right now.
my parents dont give how long i play, when i play, or what i play as long as they don't have to pat for it. the only time they ever get involved in my playing time is if im failing a class that isnt math(because it takes a extreme effort on my part and my teachers part to bring me up to a 75 =/).

i know for a fact that i'm not addicted to gw.. its not like i'm thinking of gw all day long, most of the time i'm out with friends (who don't know i'm into these games), and when i'm not out with friends, i'm either on msn, the phone, or just enjoying gw :)
like most addicts say, i can walk away any time, and its true i can, but i'm not addicted. at my peak of playing, about 5-6 hours a day, my internet went out, i was there, without gw for 4 months. and yeah, i wanted to play sooo bad, but i got through it, week after week. i started going out more, even though most time i'm outside anyways, and i loved it.
i moved onto some new games during that time; titan quest, diablo. i loved titan quest, was fun, challenging, and had a pretty good story line to it, knowing that i'm really into greek mythology because my dad wrote a book on it =p

I do not consider my self addicted. I only get to play GW bout 1-2 hours a day. I'm glad that my parents only let me play that much becuase there was a post a few weeks ago bou a kid that got addicted to a game and was going crazy when his parents told him to get off. I like to play GW a lot but I also have more important things to do, like sports I love playing football and I am farly good at it. So you always have to put more imprtant things in front of entertainment, I'm not trying to tell you all how to live your lives, but merely suggesting.

i'm going to a school with computer education so basically we're almost only 'nerds'. and yah, some people really has taken it bad, they are freakin nuts. talking fast, being all messy and are hard to communicate with.
tho it is proved that people playing for example cs got better reaction time. i can also feel that when i play cod 2. when u run areound on a map and collide with an enemy i always dies cause i aint got that good reflexes ;)...
anyhow i dont consider games being that big problem. i think of it more like and art form.
also i think an addict plays because he "has" to. like someone who smokes, they may want to stop but can't. i play because i think its fun and interesting.

<---- not addicted. i focus most of my time to 3 things: school cross country and karate (see why my fav class is assassin?). i play guild wars for less than 2 hours every day at night when everything is done. on the weekends i play more when im not at the movies, doing hw, over a friends house or going running.

i'mma happy gamer, although i have little time to spend gaming, something which has now been decreased to about 2 houres, i still enjoy those since i don't have to worry about a nagging mom or dad.
they've accepted after about 300 houres of car rides with my fellow addicted nephew =]

i don't think im an addict, i used to play everyday for about 8 hrs straight sometimes, that got smaller and smaller nowadays i can go more then about 2-3 days w/o some gw, haha.

yeah, when i first got gw i would spend more than 10 hours a day on it, but as i got further through the game it started to get a bit repetetive, and now im lucky to get even an hour or 2 a day, but i guess i have shedloads of coursework and crap to do aswell so thatll stop me :'(

I used to be very addicted a year ago. Depression + games = very bad combination. Luckily, I got my life together and now I hardly play anymore. Although my parents still think that I'm addicted since I sit in my room and they only assume that I spend every hour playing games. Some parents are clueless tbh >.>
