fellow necromancer’s, what’s your play style for pve.

for those nero’s out there, i am curious to see what your play style is and what secondary profession you have chosen.

secondary profession elementals

16 in death (with runes)

10 in fire

10 in soul reaping

i like to be able to have 18 level horrors and keep them alive with blood of the master. then i soul reap every thing i can to get back energy which works pretty well. i can have up to 10 minions at a time and have gotten good and keeping them alive. however, i like to do more then just sit there and keep spamming blood of the master so i use some fire for aoe such as meteor. while i wait to use signet of sorrow i use flare until some thing dies. i would post my build but i am at work right now.

i play necro/monk but he's only just got to lvl 20 so not much stuff,around:

10ish blood magic

6 soul reaping

4 healing prayers

basically my normal setup i just hex things till they die and if they dont then i switch to my mm build which i've only used 4 times :( so still playing round with the build and crud like that :d
my usual skills:
vamp gaze
life siphon
weaken armor
chiblains
orison of healing
resurrect

then just two other skills that i forgot :d (hope this post doesnt sound too much like a guide thingy :d )

necro's should stick to their attributes and ele's to theirs, although there are exceptions such as a tainted warder and a few others...

well my style is always dependant on the area, i dislike MM because i'm just too lazy to keep minions alive and spamming same skills over and over :p SS bores me aswell, i just play it when i need to.
i personally love aoe and hex pressure builds, which center around major aoe degen/damage & pressure

Why?

I love mixing it up, in fact some of my favourite builds have been a big mix of Primary & Secondary attribs.

I love mixing it up, in fact some of my favourite builds have been a big mix of Primary & Secondary attribs.

When you say no to flare can you go into more detail? I have tired to put my skill in blood but the cast recharge time for Vampiric Gaze is fire seconds VS an instant cast and Deathly Swarm cast time is 3 seconds. I haven’t unlocked any elite skills yet.

hmmm more like necros don't necessarily need to bring firestorm and flare or eles not having to take deathly swarm or vamp gaze..

reason = there are way better and more effective builds, not only the dmg output is lower but also the energy cost is higher in most cases (specially ele's with many skills that can't be combined with attunements)..

but hey, i don't care if u run flare on ur necro, i just hope that i don't get you in my team :p

perhaps u think it's fun to bring deepfreeze, meteor shower and inmolate on ur necro o.o i don't want to stop ur fun!whatever flows ur boat..

just trying to help...

the power of necros lies within their own attributes imho. the only secondary profession i put points in when is when i use rit since some spirits can boost up the damage done by a curse build.

at this moment i run 2 different builds mainly:

spiteful anguish:

curses: 15
soul reaping: 10
communing: 12

- spiteful spirit
- reckless haste (aoe hex)
- suffering (aoe hex)
- well of darkness
- vampirism/ hexes vigor
- anguish
- signet of lost souls
- death pact signet

icy veins (build from geek)

death: 16
soul reaping: 15

- icy veins
- putrid bile
- rising bile
- putrid explosion
- necrosis
- hexes vigor
- free slot (i like air of superiority)
- death pact signet

now i already hear people say: "ditch dps" but despite the downside of the ally to survive for 2 mins; it is in my opinion one of the best rezzes in the game for pve. if your monk is down you want that one up and running with as maximum health and energy (or at least as much as possible); with hexes vigor you can replenish your health quickly and get out of aggro; and soul reaping / signet of lost souls/ aos makes you energy hardly go below 50% (or at least in my case). imho; in high end pve: better to take the risk of a possible death (and it doesnt even count as a death for you if it happens; morale boost and such stay and you get no dp); a monk running with 400 health and 40 energy is much more beneficial then rezzing a monk with (eeg ressurect chant) 400 health and 11% energy and taking ages to cast in the first place.

I have been running this more and mroe and really enjoy this PvE only skill

SS
Arcane echo
Reckless Haste
Parasitic bond (cover hex self heal)
Signet of Lost souls
Necrosis (90 armor ignoring damage when maxxed)
Air of superiority
Rez (can substitute BR if asked just take 1 rank from SR and put those points in blood should give you 10s)

Air of superiority randomely give you a bonus whenever you get experience form a kill. sometimes it recharges all your skills (I find it happens quite frequently too)

I find using this build I am almost constantly casting SS and when I am not I am castin parasitic bond + necrosis to kill almost dead foes. I find this build higly effective and since it all based around 2 attributes you can max out both curses and soul reaping ensuring you always have enough enery.

Some other tips
Mindbender - reduces casting time of spells great for an MM. Paired up with nightbringer you can actually beat out the well necros for bodies sometimes.

Great Dwarven Weapon - great to use on Barrage rangers while you are waiting for recharges.

I find running SV is fun too. I run it as a support necro

SV
Parasitic bond (cover hex)

Well of the profane (need 5 in death even though it says 4)
Blood ritual
Necrosis
Air of supeirority (man I luv this skill)
Signet of lost souls
Rez

This is great if you are running with a good tank. Once he get aggro you cast your wells. Otherwise keep SV and PB on the monks to hurt them real good.

Icy veins has already been mention but I usually run it while I am playing an MM.

atm i use a few different build but i adapt my builds each mission :p

like with aurora glade i take soulbind with a water magic or mes slowing hex/spell and start spamming hexes, so kd and lots of degen

at fire islands i play n/r with winter, spinal shivers, wither, and some other degen skills

but as said i totally adapt my skills everymission :p

in pvp i love to run pure pressure build but that build is my secret, sorry!

and yes i combine skills often to :p

I play curses necro in PvE...

SS|Insidious Parasite|Enfeebling Blood|Rip Enchantment|Barbs|Necrosis|Signet of Sorrow|Rebirth

I usually make sure I run a group with atleast 2 strong melee tanks so that they are able to keep enemies away from the backlines. Enfeebling & Rip Enchant are insanely good at crowd control...after which SS & Barbs are awesome for demolishing enemies...I always carry a set of perfect daggers for when I trigger barbs on a cleric or elementalist...helps out for finishing.

Also, Signet of Sorrow is awesome for finisher damage...I spam it a lot on the high armor enemies that I leave for last...

Insidious Parasite
Pain Inverter (awesome skill ^ ^)
Barbs
Mark of Pain
Desecrate Enchantments/Air of Superiority
Dark Escape (huh???)
Rez Signet

Some people may think "huh, why a speedboost?". I take dark escape because it also halves the damage which comes in handy, especially in Hard Mode.
Barbs and Mark of Pain are awesome skills in combination with Master of Whispers, my Minion Master.
For those who are wondering, I don't bring Signet of Lost Souls because 10 Soul Reaping and the dying minions provide PLENTY of energy ;)

Warior Princes Xena: Warrior lvl 20
Kamiko Princess: Elementalist lvl 20
Princes Adirill: Monk lvl 20
Il Little Ritu Il: Ritualist lvl 20
No Tears Please: Assassin lvl 20
Empress Keileena: Necromancer lvl 20

I love playing curses...
16 curses
Soul Reaping of course
I choose secondary depending on what I am doing...

Some of the curses skills I use are: SS, barbs, parasitic bond, reckless haste and spinal shivers...

I don't mind MM either once in a while

the glyph build... how long has this glyph build been around then? I had a guide rejected that included this glyph a while back. As it happens I use it to kill spirits with necrosis.

edit :

The main purpose is to activate the necrosis tho spamming pb is another use.
The ele sunspear skill works after ss has been cast meaning that some group could be getting ss damage and necrosis damage tho the recharge on the ele skill is not that great.

I had a quick look as I have to be in work soon but the glyph build is clearly not very famouse probably because its not that great.
