it begins to rain. thunder and lightning pierce the sky. down below, on the moonlit landscape, the great hero basta the righteous is taking down the last members of a circle of thorns gathering. basta slams his blade down hard on one of the robed occultists, who let out a sharp, painful scream and fell to the ground. the last member took a frightened step away, and then ran away in a full sprint, begging to his god that he be spared. basta, thinking he succeeded sheathed his blade and began to walk away, when out of nowhere, a frail, wrinkled man appeared. judging by the robes and headdress he was wearing basta could easily identify him as a circle of thorns death mage, and he knew better than to judge a death mage by his appearance. “hmph, i should have known you’d make short work of these useless pawns. but now i have you right where i want you.” the mage cackled. he then points one of his crooked fingers at basta from which a bolt of electricity materialized and sped straight at him with murderous intent. basta wasn’t expecting this and took the full force of the blow to his chest. small strands or electricity covered his body; he fell to his knees, feeling drained by the cheap shot, but not ready to give up. basta stood to his feet, un-sheathed his sword and charged at the mystical being before him. the old mage, who has lived countless lives, has fought many heroes, many beings, mortal or otherwise, views basta the righteous merely as a means to test a newly acquired magic. before reaching the mage basta conjures an inner strength which he lets flow through his sword. he swings the powerful blade at the death mage, who quickly throws his glowing curved blade in front of him as if it would protect him. the sword broke through the mages mystical artifact and struck his arm, he felt the warmth radiated from the blood as it quickly drenched his robes. “enough!” the mage shouted. “although i admire your enthusiasm, i must bring this struggle to an end!”. the hero stared at him in disbelief, wondering how the old wrinkled man, drenched in blood, expected to defeat him. “and how, old mage, do you expect to beat me? look upon yourself, and understand that i will be the victor of this batt...” before the last words could be uttered the mage had him by his throat, staring basta straight in the face, looking down on him with joy glistening in his dark, evil stained eyes. “and now my friend, i will show how i expect to win!!” he stabs his hand into basta’s chest, but it did not pierce his armor, nor his flesh. it pierced his soul. the mage ripped out the pure glowing orb of light that was basta. he gazed upon it, cackling maniacally and with his other hand retrieved a glowing blade shrouded in darkness from his belt. pausing a moment, the mage mutters an incantation and then stabs the blade into the orb. the darkness spread throughout the orb, completely overtaking it. the orb then solidified and shattered into the dark, night sky. the mage, seeing the blank, emotionless stare coming from basta, knew he had won. he then took basta’s helm as a trophy and disappeared into the dense fog that seemed to be rapidly thickening. basta the righteous, once that greatest hero alive, fell to the ground. his eyes blank and strength gone, he was defeated…
