the only way to demote someone who is not online is to set the auto-demote feature, where they must log in within a certain number of days or be auto-demoted.
another way would be to kick them from the sg thereby making the point moot.
and while im at it welcome to game amp!!!

If they're the highest rank, you can't kick them. However, you can set the auto-demote (if you have rights) to say...5 days. Once it auto-demotes them, you can kick them or just leave them demoted if thats what you want.

Just cause I'm curious (or nosy)
Why would you want to demote a member? My SG is really small and we're all pretty much friends, so I wouldn't know why you would demote someone.

i recently became leader of my super group. part of the thing is commanders and captains don't go higher then a certain number, keeping somewhat of a balance of power. theres two people though that are commanders that have been inactive. i don't want to kick them since they are founding members and been there longer then me but some of the other members are constantly asking why are these people commanders

the auto demote feature only demotes top ranking officers. commanders can remain inactive for any amount of time and still remain inactive.
you could always try building up the mystery of the missing founders and turn them into cultural icons of your sg. all you have to do is put an occasional reference to them in your motd. say things like "until the return of cap. missing," or "according to the example set down by maj. enigma."
it worked for me when states girl went off to the navy and left me in charge of the freedom phalanx just before i7 was launched. she was gone for months with no prestige, and this was before they added auto-demotion. because all the newer members knew she would be gone for a while, that she would return someday and that she was the true leader of the sg, nobody complained about the fact that she had no prestige.
