| Support Proper Punctuation! |
|
|
|
Okay, I'm at me wits end with this. I've thought I had come to love gameamp and I feel like it has become my second home all over again. But I must protest against this 'No Caps Rule'. By forcing all letters to be lower case, gameamp is supporting improper punctuation, and I for one, can't stand it any longer. If gameamp must limit caps, do so in another way then just being lazy and forcing all words to be lowercase in every post. If gameamp won't come up with something, I will have to look into it myself and I will annoy the staff about it till something is done, which is something I really don't wish to do, since I am a very nice guy, but I do have limits which can be broken. I hope this is seriously looked into.

*Edit* Interesting bug, but I still support proper punctuation :\

the "no caps" thing is a bug. not intentional by gameamp staff.
sometimes it allows caps, sometimes it doesn't.
and after you edit your post, the caps go away.

Yup, it is indeed a bug, as you can see in this post, caps work fine(hopefully), but if I edit this at a later time, caps will no longer be there.

Yes, lowercase letter piss me off....No it's the fact that something doesn't work like it has worked previously and should work.
And All I've been hearing about is the devs and staff leaving? Is there anyone left who can even 'fix' this?

and yes, i have too much time on my hands because i only have two websites i'm working on, not 5 or more as i would like to be (make more munnies >.<)

it's not this, again, it's the fact that something doesn't work. and to make things worse, the site is.....meh can't think of a proper metaphore, but as chrisworld said, it's not as it once was...like the roman empire.......

yeah.. how many times have you come to the site only to find the site down...or how many times do you have problems with trying to use the quote or reply button on the forums and it not working over and over even if you are logged in...its just that it used to run so smooth and now theres all kinds of bumps...

gameamp is a community. people go and people come. fact is that the community feeling is made by its members. the sharing of a mutual love for guildwars brought the people together. if it is not 'as it was' then its up to the members here to make gw@amp get back to the glory days. that is not the job of the devs or the staff. they are here mainly to help, assist and to provide information.
people do not linger on a forum forever. sometimes someone decides to move on to something else (eeg a new game; more time into rl etc etc).
edit:
as for the bugs; mind that there was a major hack attack on this site recently. it takes time to fix things.

admins and staff have a big part in a community. if i were just to get up and leave my guilds site, spam, errors, and bugs would start to pile up, then no one would visit the site anymore. but i agree, a big part is the members.

i am a hypocrite. however your first sentence has two mistakes.
an apostrophe is used to indicate possession.
* for most singular nouns, the ending 's is added, e.g. the cat's whiskers.
* when the noun is a normal plural with an added s, no extra s is added in the possessive, so pens' lids (where there is more than one pen) is correct rather than pens's lids. if the plural is not one that is formed by adding s, add an s for the possessive, after the apostrophe: children's hats, women's hairdresser, some people's eyes (but compare some peoples' recent emergence into nationhood, where peoples is meant as the plural of the singular people). these principles are universally accepted.
* if the word ends in an s but is singular, practice varies as to whether to add 's or only an apostrophe. (for discussion on this and the following points, see below.) in general, a good practice is to follow whichever spoken form is judged best: boss's shoes, mrs. jones' hat (or mrs. jones's hat, if that spoken form is preferred). in many cases, both spoken and written forms will differ between people.
* some people like to reflect standard spoken practice in special cases like these: for convenience' sake, for goodness' sake, for appearance' sake, etc. others prefer to add 's in the standard way: for convenience's sake.[2] still others prefer to omit the apostrophe when there is an s sound before sake: for morality's sake, but for convenience sake.[citation needed]
* compound nouns have their singular possessives formed with an apostrophe and an s at their end, in accordance with the rules given above: the attorney-general's husband; the minister for justice's religion; her father-in-law's new wife. in the examples just given, the plurals are formed with an s that does not occur at the end: attorneys-general, etc. an interesting problem therefore arises with the possessive plurals of these compounds. sources that rule on the matter appear to favour the following forms, in which there is both an s added to form the plural, and a separate s added for the possessive: the attorneys-general's husbands; the ministers for justice's religions; their fathers-in-law's new wives.[3][4]
* an apostrophe is used in time and money references in constructions such as one hour's respite, two weeks' holiday, a dollar's worth, five pounds' worth. although it may not be immediately obvious, this is an ordinary possessive use. for example, one hour's respite means a respite of one hour (exactly as the cat's whiskers means the whiskers of the cat).
* no apostrophe is used in the following possessive pronouns and adjectives: yours, his, hers, ours, its, theirs, and whose. (many people wrongly use it's for the possessive of it; but authorities are unanimous that it's can only properly be a contraction of it is or it has.) all other possessive pronouns ending in s do take an apostrophe: one's; everyone's; somebody's, nobody else's, etc. with plural forms, the apostrophe follows the s, as with nouns: the others' husbands (but compare they all looked at each other's husbands, in which both each and other are singular).
taken from wikki!
edit : so, no i'm not going to support proper punctuation; as it no longer exists. :p
edit 2 : i can not use capitols. this destroyed my opinion.
edit 3 : yopur not missing. your putting allot in. its something everyone does. i'm don't etc are not grammatically correct it should be "i am and do not" thus the English language is a sham. calling for proper puctuation is like asking for the moon on a stick. if you cant beat em' join em' and toys 'r' us can bite me.

i don't know about the apostrophe but without a doubt it should be "my wit's end".
i use proper punctuation when i can but tbh it doesn't matter whether something has proper grammar as long as you can understand it ;)

Well Saji you are an admin so maybe you can devel into this little problem and come out with a solution, or way to fix it. If not you must wait till it gets fixed and deal with it( no complaining). I'm sure that there are people working on it and that it well be fixed. Till then we will all have to deal with no capitalization. :)

Yup looks like capitals are ours to use and abuse again :)
I have problems in public forums like this when people cry out for the perfect use of the English language. It's the World Wide Web which means there is an abundance of people who use English as a second language, there's also issues around access to education and conditions that affect the use of the written word (dyslexia being the obvious).
Making an effort to communicate concisely (not ramble like me) and as clearly as you can is the best I would hope for and be happy with. A good point is a good point no matter how it's presented :)
