imagine you are a developer for gw2, and could choose how it would look, contain, and work. what would you keep, scrap or re-do? that's right, you are in charge. forget everything about the rumours we have heard so far, and the somehow vague statements from a-net. what is your guild wars utopia like?
(also, when you are discussing someone else dreams, try to keep it clean and don't flame for ideas that don't match with your own vision ;-)

Guild wars utopia? squeeze every once of power from the game engine and make unbelievable in-game scenery locations where players can visit, and also there would be some quests and history of said location....of course :P I just want big beautiful scenery throughout my adventures, much like EoTN managed to do....but with GW2, on a DX10 level :D

i would love to see in-game effects from both pve and pvp.
like capturable worlds that hold different attributes with them.
and things like that.
i have heard that they plan on doing this, but its still a great idea.
also.
i would love to see the whole merchent/crafter idea scratched.
and make it so people can have trade professions.
this would give people certian roles in the community and guilds.
plus it would be another way for profit.
also.
sort of combine professions even more.
like be an elemantalist/warrior.
but where the warriors armor.
but your spells are not as effective.
also.
i would love to see individual homes.
that players can travel to.
much like a guild hall.
but more customizable.
another.
is have servers dedicated as trade servers.
much like an auction house of some sort.
but make a limit of people.
so the spam doesnt get to high.

hmmmm, if i was the developer i would do away with dedicated healers and make selfhealing more effective.
maybe this way, pvp matches won't be like "omg kill the monk, monks first, a rit get him!, help me kill this monk" just a thought.
don't get me wrong, i'm not saying to completely remove monks from the game. just remove the dedicated healer aspect/job and buff smiting or something.

ok umm well a merchant you could carry in your pocket.
a teleport crystal so you could zip back to the home mentioned
in the earlier post and then zip back out to explorable.
a wardrobe much like the hall of monuments thingy but you can leave your armor on display and not have to lug it around on mules... oh yeah and a mule that follows you around.
formations for the hench
umm say i like the ele to stay at the back so i flag him every time but if you could say "try to stay out of trouble but still cast a spell once in a while" to an ele hench it would be nice
to give heroes an order to use skills in, and an order to tackle a specific group... i could tell koss to concentrate on casters and maybe tell gwen to prefer mele targets.
the whole idea of hitting the back of a target or hitting from hight getting better results was something i love about gw one. perhaps i might take it further and have levels of critical hit. lots of skills improve a hit given certain situations but i would like to see situations more varied so that a perfectly timed hit and a well thought out position could mean different results. snipers have fun in this game but accuracy would be diminished from high up.
more skill slots and the ability to try 3 profs or more i think i can handle more than 8 skills and i do not mind facing a monster with more than 4 skills.
one thing will hold back most ideas is the need to have guildwars available to all the servers and computing power of many guildwars players would have problems with aspects that i have seen in other rpg. how ever i think that there might be the availability for players to customise guildwars in order that everyone can get a little bit extra from the game depending on their situation. one other limiting factor would be the fairness of the game. at the moment its a given that all players are created equal and the game is carefully balanced to make sure that you get a sense of fairness. i would like most of all for guildwars to keep the same ethos.
available to all, fun fair and friendly.
nothing has given me the impression that gw2 will be anything other than a masterpeice of arcade rpg (good luck anet :).

with races, i feel that there should be tengus that could glide if they jump from a high enough cliff (how kick ass would that be?). imagine, they're gliding and while descending, they see some poor sucka walking along and decide to (say this tengu is a sin) shadowstep to them mid-flight (probably can't do that but it's my utopia) and proceed to finish em off.
oh oh oh, imagine aura of displacement...using that in a high place, killing some fool, then when his teammates come to kill you, you release it and you're back to safety.
or imagine all these spirits the rits make in various places of a forest. you think you're gonna hide and all of a sudden, a spirit is next to you pelting you with wanderlust.
of course, elementalist attacks must look cooler (come on, maelstrom just wasn't cutting it).
i have more stuff in my head but it's too much. gw2 is gonna be so cool t_t

I would like to see that you will be able to get your own house/lodge/inn/castle(depends on how rich you are.) that you char can go to. Also beeing able to go into the buildings. hmhm maybe some animals that can be mounted and ridden. Also being able to challenge guild lords power in somr sort of competitive contest, so if you think that you can take the leader on or something like that you can. I would love to see that you will be able to raid sutff like villages or another guilds hall.

All 10 professions remain in the game.
More advanced technology. Like guns. Guns are good.

i like to have a good and bad ending to the game. like there are 2 different missions you can do at the start of the game. evil or good towards that area. also the missions can be pvp based, and when 1 side wins the area connected to the missions get transformed depending if the good or bad side wins opening up different set of creatures.
i think if all areas on the world map get ether bad or good there should be some sort of world wide bonus.
to make evil or good sides more powerful the armor or weapons you have can be evil or good based. this means when the area has a evil affect evil weapons are more powerful and vice versa.
i like your guys idea of weapon pieces that are scattered and more castles.
Woof!

i would like to see ascalon in it's glory once again...
also i would like to see less carnage, damage to the world that i've saved and protected in the past campaigns...
i would like to have an ending where i can see a bright future with only minor troubles, just to avoid being bored until gw3 comes out :p

more community support for pvp - a dedicated pvp co like gaile but actually knows stuff that we wanna know about.
more frequent skill balances
large-scale pvp (maybe an alliance team? 8 from each guild vs another alliance with the same amount of teams - you choose number between 3-10 guilds)
when balancing: listen to the actual good people about what is over/underpowered instead of the really bad ra players who complain about stuff just coz they cant beat it.

If i was a developer, my first issue would be to create more unique armor. My 2nd task would defintley be the making and coding of more uniqueness in to the hair styles. Like give the player a option of how long or how short you want your hair to be, just like the length of your char but then for you hair. The 3rd challenge is to create or at least try to create more speciall scenery, make the countries or locations that you walk arround in, more beautifull. True that it will cause the game requirments to go up but in my opinion it's all worth it.
One of my main goals as well is once again, increase the storage size. Even with the new size, i am still running out of space, maybe add a speciall tab for Dye and Runes as well, as i know from myself, i love to stack both of them. I might also be interested in adding a tab just for your armor, so that you know wich armors you have and that you can always take a peak in.
Also a thing i would love to see myself is something i saw in the other topics as well, the combonation of the proffesions is nice, but i would find it nicer if it would go beyond that, like using the armor of one of the 2 proffesions you have chosen.
But the most important thing for me is to deal with the everlasting trade spam. I can't remember the last time i had the trade channel on. A whole district for traders is nice but i doubt people will go there to trade as they know the more general public is in the normal districts in the major cities. The auction house idea that i saw as well in a other post is a nice idea but in my opnion, if that would happen, GW will be turning into a weak copy of WoW, and that is something that will stop me from playing it.
Now, that where my 2 cents =)
GGS is recruiting. Post a application here.

as for gameplay itself i am satisfied with gw. the chaining of skills to obtain stacking conditions, damage etc is in my opinion well thought of.
for gw 2 i hope for a few things; mainly because development of hardware and software goes on and on. directx 10 rendering and shading will be awesome as well with pixelshader 3.. i think if they can manage that the scenery will be awesome which brings me to something that popped into my mind;
it would be nice to have a day and evening cycle (not as in true time; maybe 10 times the speed. one cycle take 2,5 hours instead of 24). some quests and foes depend on the 'time' of day. if you have to wait; it would be nice to be able to camp with friends and guildies until the time the quest gets active. nice campfire (using the same system as ghost in the box for instance. doubleclick it to make a campfire) etc...
character alterations would be nice. like the much talked hairdresser etc. im not talking about plastic surgery; but minor alterations that enables to give your character a 'fresh' look in comparison to before.
weather system. they had implemented a little in nightfall (forgot the region; but it rains there occasionally). rain, thunder etc to make the scenery more lively.
im however not sure about races. especially since every mmo has different races. gw is unique in many aspects; not least the fact that all classes are human.
blending of the existing professions. for example: the 'monk' profession is a blending of monk+necro. it makes the classes more versatile i think.

not sure what i'd add... for now i'm pretty confident in arenanet, only the "possibly no level cap" is intriguing, we'll see how they implement it.
ok maybe one thing: a linux native version and opengl support.
that's true, i'm not a vista supporter... but that's a different issue :)
for now i'm glad they announced support for directx 9 though you never know, still a long way to go.
oh and no need to go through the plaync launcher please...
one thing i'd definitely keep is:
no need to spend countless hours and sleepless nights grinding gear to be competitive in pvp. along with no implicit need to get all expansions (from what i've read the campaign format could be droppped). imo getting expansions should be completely up to the player.

i would put in a mapping icon like the one which tells you your in hm for total % of the area uncovered. this way before we leave an area we would not have to think, "man i hope i got that all mapped".
i would also put all the town in to the ship travel window so we would not have to make that stop over in the three large towns, just go strait to where we want to be and also be able to select the district from that window.

evil is a relative term, many humans think the charr are evil. while all they do is pursue their goal of honour by expansions and on the battle field, much like the norn... so are norn evil too then?
in my opion, i would rather see things happen in a more overall view. meaning, you're not alone, that their are other people fighting along side you. or fighting on another place/battlfield. that's you're only a tiny part of civilation.

i hope they keep:
the 10 professions
the 8-skill maximum (its about skilllll, baby)
ab in some form. maybe multiple-ab (human/charr in ascalon or undead/human in elona)
titles
i hope they change/add:
more customizable guild halls (not so much you create your own map but can add extra areas that serve to make it look awesome and add an extra dimension to the gvg)
better customising of your characters looks (hair/face, like someone mentioned already)
lots more armour.

where to begin?
- longer distance (out of aggro range) spells for pvp.
- armours/weapons should have drop down lists for you to choose which modification (upon that item) to be used. in turn this would save loads of time/money buying new runes for different builds.
- damage modifiers/critical chance modifiers for position. e.g. back-stabbing results in higher damage. i'd like a little bit of 'twitch' gaming too. =)
- better grapical effecs for skills, i want to see huge aoe spells, and more noticable attacks.
- i'd like to see 'free-range' pvp, which was suggested to happen in the mists, where players roam around looking for kills. =)
- crafting would be awesome, though probably an overkill.
- a decent farming system/method of making money.
- lots of minigames! =)
- something that would make titles more signifigant, like rank has emotes, pve ranks have armours...
- weapons and armour shown in town to full graphical capability, i hate seeing fuzzy armour. =s
- capture towns/locations, that do not allow access to those who don't currently own.
- while i like map traveling, i don't like the fact that all the games are instanced, it feels less 'cosy'. =)
- oh, and make phreaking aucion houses! =p trading sucks.

ooh so many things that i would like, heres a few...
travel:
asuran gates between major outposts to cut down on the time taken to travel.
tameable/trainable mounts which improve as they lvl
economy:
unlinked npc auctionhouses in major outposts
guild/alliance controlled auctionhouses in guild/alliance controlled outposts (guild/alliance would take a % of sales)
guild/alliance treasuries
player crafting
keeping the weapon/armour lvl system the same as in gw
combat:
mounted combat, mounts would be attackable & killable and player skills would differ dependent on whether mounted/unmounted.
increased downside of death - allowing looting of player corpses - damage to armour/weapons.
world pvp where in certain normally pve areas the opposition is decided by the relationship between individual players/guilds/alliances (so for instance one guild could declare war on another and would be allowed to pvp)
other:
when moving from gw to gw2 allow some functionality to ensure that guilds can move all their members onto the same server if they want to (i'm assuming that there will be several servers from the outset)

if i would be a developer of gw2, i would first of al create something else to do other than fighting in an area.
also i would create the possibility to customize armor so that you don't look like any1 else.
i also think it would be cool if you can shoot arrows, energy bolts(from staffs, wands etc) youself so that it would req skill, tho also keep the possibility to let pc shoot for new peeps. (shooting on your own would do more dmg, depending on how well you shoot)
i would try to add more puzzles to gw2, i know it could be hard to put them in an online game, but still idd like to see more puzzles :d
