Haha... I was just thinkin today and I noticed that a rager isn't necisarily (or however the crap you spell it) a guy with a bow and arrow, he's more of a "patrollman of the woods" (I guess I'll call it). Really it should be called archer :P Ha just pointing that out.

Well, good point but i think they mean Ranger as in They were really the first class in gw to specialize in attacking from a ranged-distance.

imo, Ranger = Expertise = cheaper skillz that pwn from any range. weapon's not a factor, so I wouldn't call them an Archer profession.

Rangers... it's a different name than all the rogues and archers in other games :p

A "ranger" is a term usually mistaken, in most MMORPG's (or any game lol). Some i can think of atm are Runescape And Guildwars. As you pointed out they should be Named "Archers" because they specialize in "Archery". They could also be called "Marksmen" because they specialize in "Marksmenship". Few Games do not make the mistake of calling Them "Rangers". Morrowind and Oblivion are some that they properly Named them Marksmen & Archers. Well, I hope that cleared this up.

So...no one ever tried beastmastery or trapper?
Wouldnt make sense if ranger was named archer.

I actually prefer Ranger over Hunter, Marksmen or Archer.
2 of them would only specialize in Long Range combat and the 3th is alright, but I still prefer Ranger =]
Ranger attributes:
Expertise
Beast Mastery
Marksmenship
Wilderness survival
Beast mastery and Wilderness survival do not typically include archery into it (although in-game alot of the preparations are listed their).
And to get another example are the Thumpers, which have absolutely no marksmenship, but do require a R/W primairy.
