I'm so confused as to what's wrong ...

I'm confused.

Every time I start up CoV it stops loading and tells me I have to verify my files.

After the files have been verified it starts an excruciatingly long download that covers damn near every file in the game. All with pigg/somethingorother, and all that kind of stuff.

When it's all done "downloading manifest" it runs the game just fine and all is gravy.

But then after I do a restart, or if my power gets cut for some reason, when I start up CoV again. It starts over.

If anyone knows how I could possibly fix this, I'd love to hear from you.

Welcome to the Forums, Redwater169!! (Or Un-welcome since were villains over here...)

Unfortunatley, That has never happened to me. I have had some difficulties in CoX etc. But never anything like that. All I can say is to contact NCsoft Support, or wait for someone that knows a fix and posts it.

Ive had that happen to me when i have power outs, becuase of the fact the computer thinks its a problem with the computer and everything verifies, CoV, and a lot of my other programs pop up and scan/verify the comp.
what do you mean "restart, you mean whenever you shut off the comp, if thats so the only reason i could see that happening is if you dont shut the comp off right, then again im usually playin a laptop on dial up so i have many problems that other people do, but if none of what i said helps, try plaync like Cre said above

This happened on my girlfriend's comp for a while, in her case it was faulty ram.

I say the above because if this process is 'excruciatingly long' as you say, then the implication is that you have either have a problem/conflict between your PC and the game (ie; drivers, memory, etc) or a slower than expected PC. This further bolsters my guess. You are 'dumping out' of the game and not quitting normally which will indeed cause the program to re-verify your files.

BUT do not despair; there is a solution. You need to start the game without 'verifying the files'. I am looking into this because I know that it's possible. I just havent had to do it. BRB

Okay, having a problem searching this out. You may try to start up the program like this to try and get around the 'verifying files' until I can find another way. Not sure that it will work, but if you crash give it a try.

If the game is installed in the 'standard configuration' go to the Start Menu and click on 'Run' and enter the following then hit Enter.

"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -noverify

I will try to find exact info unless someone else here knows for sure.

Redwater, I was having this same issue. And as Mr. Q stated, it was a faulty ram module. Once i replaced it..."all was gravy."

Hmm .. How could I tell if one or both of my Sticks of RAM went to hell?

Because if both of them took a crap on me that'd suck pretty bad. lol

What graphics level do you play at and how well do you run the game? Because that depends on your ram and Graphics card, I don't think its graphics card because then your game would look like crap and lag outta he77. But it might be the ram, im not sure how to check em' though.

If you have faulty RAM, you should be having other problems with the PC also. If you have a few bucks you can always take the sticks in to have them checked on a test bed. Hmmm, lemmee see.

You may wish to try those first and see what comes up.
