Well guys as some of you may know im at that ever crucial age where im now having no choice but to pick ym uni subject. If i havent sent off my form by the end of the month i risk not getting into any uni's at all. However im stuck as it was, with what course i wish to do.
I have 3 thoughts so far really,
1) Geography, as it is my specialised subject (runs in my family to a certain extent)
2) Computer game design - They always said do something you enjoy, and whereas i realise its not the must fun course im in it for the finished product, i want a job where i can make something to be proud of ya'know?
3) Archaeology and ancient history - Again do something you enjoy is the best advice that i can be given (apprently) and anyone who knows me for me and not my demon other knows that i LOVE history (pre medieval and medieval history being my favourite times, nothing recent, thats just dull).
See now im stuck for choice really, and i know that Uni is a big step, and im really looking forward to it, but atm i still do not know which course i most want to take!
With geography i have the most subject understanding.
With computer game design i could potentially have a job that i can make an impact with (Hell look at Rockstar, not saying its a good impact but as a villain i dont like a goody goody impact ¬_¬).
With Archaeology and Ancient history I would be following one of my longest and truest interests, problem is dont really see myself getting a job on the outside of this.
Uni is a big step, and since i've been finacially independant for the last year and a half that means I will have to cover uni off my own back (hoo boy) so i dont want to do there, get my diploma and then get nothing out of it other then a mountain of debt.
You guys have any advice for me, this is a critical time in my young life and when i feel that the guidance i get from home is lacking, and my friends cannot help as they are stuck with the same problem i figured that my good ol' buddies at the big GA might be the next best people to talk to!
I know this has been a long post and i congratualte those who have managed to read this far!
So guys, ANY advice at all will be extreamly useful, and not forgotten when i reach the top!

thats what im in college for. i love it always wanted to be in Archaeology since i first watched Indiana Jones. Ive been on 1 dig trip this last summer it was hard work,but very fun. :)

The soundest thing i can say is to go with the thing that intrests you the most, becuase if you cant have fun doing it, then it just becomes boring and it affects how you do in it, but then again, i dunno, its your decision

But in all seriousness, I say go with something you can picture yourself doing for the rest of your life. Can you picture yourself as an archeologist or historian in 20 years? Will you be having fun and getting a decent paycheck? You have to ask yourself these types of questions.

Well, well, Hell. Now you've come to it; haven't ya? Personally, I love all your 'ideas', and bleeding red, white and blue (no, not the Union Jack!); I'm not as versed in the University (or 'Uni' for short Cr3ss3nt) system in the Isles.
I would guess with 'Geography' you would be talking about becoming a Cartographer of some sort? I love a good map or atlas myself, and can spend days just poring over them, but will it garner you a good paycheck?
As a Game Design major... I dunno. Here in the states you can get most of what you need for that career field in a decent tech school and worry about a degree as you go along in the industry. In fact, I'm not sure how many of the 'Game Gods' out there have a Game Design Degree at all. Also the industry is a bear if my reading of it is correct at all. You either make it big or go down in flames. Tough call, but I too would have loved to get into it. Too old by now, dontcha know.
Hellmeister of the Lost Extraterrestrial Shark! Has a ring to it, BUT you would be better served becoming a salesman since you will be 'selling' yourself in order to get the grants and such to continue in the field with this one. OR conversely you could go on to teach in a University like dear ol' Doctor Jones for your supper. I know of one certificated Archaeologist who has a midday radio show (#1 in Los Angeles); so that gives you an idea where success and a paycheck can lay with that course of study. Heh! And he is the leader of a trio at that, and the show has nothing to do with archaeology unless it comes up in passing. Go figure.
What else do they offer that you can work towards? Are we talking a 4 year degree at least? Or is it just the beginning of an extended course of study?
Remember: the top 2% to 5% of wage earners (at least in the States with a bit of wiggle room for accuracy) are in Sales. So a business degree is a nice 'base' for almost any course of study that you take. I say this if the Uni works as American ones with a Major and a Minor course of study. Also in Sales (and not Fuller Brushes, man) you have a wide range of products you can move including, most importantly, YOU!
Probably the most important question to ask yourself, and take a look into, is 'which course of study will garner me the best paycheck?' I say this because you intimated that you have already decided that these 3 would interest you.
Of course, you can always just grab your 'guit-fiddle' and wander the countryside as a Bard. They still have those in the 'Blighty' dont they? Just kidding! Good luck, and give 'em Hell... uh, Hell!

When i say Geography, you think cartographer, for a start i cant drw and thats the last thing id do geog for. I'm a good alrounder at human and physical geography.
My latest thought is to combind geography (human, my strongest subject) with ancient history, probably the subject i hold the most interest in if i can find a course on the right time period.
I spose another big worry for me is that my girl doesnt want to go to Uni, and though im not letting that stop me I am gonig to be missing her alot :( which sort of narrows my choices slightly because im trying not to stray too far from home
