MMO Trouble

Hey guys need some friendly advice. About 10 days ago a friend of mine sent me a Trial Key to City of Villains. Mostly played that the last 2 weeks until my trial expired today. It is a cool game, however I noticed the missions became the same and it started t become WOW like in that sense. However, the character customization beats the pants off any MMO out there. I like there upgrade system for ability but can’t respect on the fly of course.

The people on there are very cool and found it very easy to group and because the loot auto assigns it’s self like in GW there is no arguing over it like in WOW. Now I am starting to miss the fact in GW that you can only group with people in cities and not off questing.

However, I don’t have to pay any monthly fees which rocks since I own the game. Now if I want to continue to play COV, I have to buy the game for 20 bucks and then pay 15 bucks per month.

I know I need to decide for my self but I want to hear your thoughts. FYI, the GW Campaign I am playing is Nightfall’s.

RE: MMO Trouble

well its all about what you generally want, break the games down to their cores and see which one favors you most.

for example:

CoV/CoH:

Pro:
Great char customization
Con:
Monthly fee

GW:

Pro:
No monthly fee
Con:
Not as in-depth char customization

these are just examples, and I'm aware there are allot more pro's/con's than those I have stated.

I play CoV and its a good game, but there isn't a big story like GW. The leveling is slow cause you only get xp will killing stuff. The real game starts at lvl 50. But if you own CoV and CoH you can do raids and stuff.

RE: MMO Trouble

Spend your bucks on Eye of the North or maybe prophecies or even factions, one off payment no further fees :)

I loved the character customisation in CoV but like you I soon got bored of the similarity between missions and quests, however a trial never gives you enough time to explore a games true potential...CoV is a fun game and all the people I came across were great, of course if you find yourself bored with it you can simply stop paying the monthly fee.

I'll go back to my orginal statement though, EotN is a great exapnsion, tonnes to do and stunning graphics, the other campaigns are well worth investing in too, if your loving Nightfall go with another campaign and/or the expansion.

RE: MMO Trouble

the more people buy these monthly subion fee games, the more it fuels the stupid idea of it and more of them come out... support games like guild wars that allow you to play for free and only pay for what you want. this is where we want the MMO industry to head... so you have my choice.. boycott all monthly fee based games and therefore stick with guild wars

RE: MMO Trouble

Though Balian has a good point on ''supporting'' GW because its free instead of all those monthly fee games.. I dont think you should choose a game over the fact you support them. You should choose a game purely on the fact which one you enjoy most.

I'd say that if you think you are still having lots of fun with GW and are far from bored of it.. Stick with that, saves you a lot of money for an equal amount of fun.
